I've noticed it twice, and I mean in a household where we are roommates, at first was when I was still an undergraduate and secondly during my NYSC, there is this attitude I noticed among my friends, and there is a saying that if everyone acts same way towards you, the problem ain't them, it's you.
If I am financial stable, everyone in the room gets to know because that's when I start fixing things in the room, like buying foods stuff, getting utensils or upgrading the room, and I do these not minding their contribution because obviously they may be broke at that time, but let's say after I've done everything and about few weeks later, when the foods have finish, they don't seem affected, they still have little change for snacks and junks, they still spend obviously when I can't even afford a bread, at times that's when they assist me with like 200-500 everyday, and these are people I call my friends not just acquaintances, but at the end of the month when I get money again I restock the kitchen, they get to know bit by bit how I organize the expenses.
I'm not trying to write the article in my favor but this is exactly how it is, am I missing out on something? Like is there a rule I'm not guided by or I'm just being outsmarted? Please I need to know if the problem is me or others.

You are not missing anything. They are not wrong in the way they spend. Neither are you. There's just an imbalance caused by you. If you must fix stuff you all use why not involve them and share the cost? If I live in a house with you and you fix things like this the tendency is to assume you have money. This world has a way of punishing soft people who don't know when to be the good samaritan. Not everyone will have your mentality and they are not wrong if they don't.

that's the problem, very few people are sincere these days, some are trying to always play smart on everyone even their friends, if I don't do these things, our room won't be presentable to anyone because they won't do it, they rather live like that, or they'll say they don't have money to contribute for ceiling fan, or I didn't ask them before getting the fan, how can I just get something and expect the contribute. I get your point but since you can't force them to contribute nko? It's not about whether you are right or wrong now but the major question is can you force them to contribute to the repairs? No. Then fix wat u can and don't expect anything from them or leave things the way they are. Simple.
