majamajic: Most of them have never run a business before. Nigeria has no economy. It's dead long ago. They will have sense this year. When I tell workers that they are eating free money, they think one is speaking out of envy. 1 Like |

IFNOTGOD: Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. Do you honestly think a Nigerian bank with all their shylock tendencies would pay you a million naira a month if they are not getting value in some way? Some of these senior managers etc. you speak of are the ones really holding the bank: the billions in deposits they bring or their skill-sets are what allow the bank to continue standing. Across board, the only set of professionals that would survive and even thrive in the coming armageddon are IT Staff - in this new world, they are the truly indispensable. 4 Likes |

Yet, the useless bank gave a whooping 1 billion naira to a kleptomaniac government instead of its ardent customers!... And now this dumb and heartless move! |

From a balance perspective, I believe this mass sack isn't the way out, unless of course the companies are using this incident as an opportunity to executive certain plans they had in mind, prior to this time. My take; Why not simply make everyone take a pay cut or no salary, but give them the job security, with the assurance that everything will become normal after this pandemic. With this step, you have settled two things; 1. Cut off you personnel running cost, since you aren't making profit. 2. Your workers endure a few months, but with a bright hope of things returning to normal afterwards. Isn't easy but better, the thought of job hunt all over again is heart melting you know.... 4 Likes |

yes you are speaking out of envy. dont tell us something we already know. like my brother, he may decide not to go work for 2 years yet his salary will enter his account. it can only happen in Nigeria. free money is sweet. so shall we eat it for 35 years old. Naughtysite: |

Midex88: Uncle, 'eye service" for you or who? Leave emotions, where in that video did it say the bank is going to "retrench 75‰ of workers"? While making this public may not invalidate the content of the interaction, no employer of labour would be happy to have his employee bring what is supposed to be an internal communication to public light. It is the height of unprofessionalism. Staffers who are not happy with management decisions such as this should honourably resign. I do not hold brief for Access Bank but let's call a spade a spade. The headline is misleading; 2, We are in desperate times and organizations will be faced with taking tough decisions and staying alive/afloat. May the best win. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Lastanza: Are you sure about this? Saudi Arabia pumps five times as much crude oil as Nigeria, has only 17% of Nigeria's population, and the production cost of their oil is $3 as opposed to Nigeria's $30. The GDP per capita is also 10 times that of Nigeria. Inspite of these significant advantages, Saudi Arabia itself has realized that it's oil dependency is not sustainable, and is moving to steer its economy away from oil into technology, biosciences and finance. They are also preparing to rely a lot more on tax revenues. This our famed oil would not save us in the years to come when the world is already learning to cure its thirst for sweet crude, or who would have thought that oil would ever be sold at less than $0 (essentially given out for free)? By the way, the USA also produces way more oil than Nigeria; have you ever heard them talk about ending income taxation? 3 Likes |

ShenTeh: Look at what is spewing from your mouth, if your family member or friends are among the vulnerable people who are at risk of loosing their means of livelihood at this critical time, you won’t say this insensitive and uncalculated rubbish. is terminating the employment of their contract staff who earn so little with nothing to save from from their meagre salary the only way to cut down on cost/expenses. If they are truly sincere about staying afloat, they should sack the senior staff of the bank because sacking 75percent of contract staff will never make the book balance look good. Better still, cut down wage across board. 3 Likes |

That's the problem of insecurity in Banking jobs. Expect other banks to follow suit. If u are not working up as a banker now, if you are having issues with ur boss in the bank, if I are doing shakara for ur oga or u don't want to soften up for the promiscuous bosses just start writing ur resignation letter now or face the upcoming shock. It's not funny. |

God punish the MD. Why not rescind your position to save cost than taking 40% pay cut. Is that the best you could do?. Those security men and cleaners are more actively engaged than you. |
