nijabazaar: May I ask , what is your laptop specifications to carry out 3D animations |
Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 3:34pm On Apr 04, 2020 |
Prince4945: For animation, any core i5 with 8G ram laptop can go. But for vfx simulations, I am using an octagon gen 7 laptop with extra hard drives. I found a way to also use my hard drive as a virtual ram. |

nijabazaar: Thanks for replying , im planning on starting 3d animation / Vfx .and I'm plan on getting a Dell xps 15 9560... Do you think the laptop would serve me well? Or do you got any laptop recommendations for me as someone who's going into this for the first time |
Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 4:10pm On Apr 04, 2020 |
Prince4945: Lenovo legion Y20 lenovo legion y540 Acer predator Helios 300...might settle for this Hp Omen don't go for anything less than 16 gig of ram and 4 GIG DEDICATED Nvidia If you are settling on Acer helios , it is based on these reasons its cinebench mark is 1140 points whereas Hp omen has 1040 BUT Hp omen has better cooling options though and slightly better display plus dual ram slots good for future ram upgrades. If you have enough 345k go for Dell G7. THIS IS THE BEYONCE OF THE LADIES AFOREMENTIONED Note this laptops are for VFX. Any core i5 with ample ram can handle Animations |

Ok. A tornado coming up. I learnt how to do a tornado today. An organic tornado at that! Funny how you set out to do something and discover a new thing entirely |

I will urge you guys to use this opportunity to advance your computer based skills. You might think it will not lead you anywhere but it sure does. I am using myself as an example. Typically, this lockdown would have had me screaming my lungs out had it been that I am in a white collar job or running a traditional business. Staying at home without earning money is a trauma. But thank God for all the sacrifices put into CGI, I am actually working from home. Working on an outsourced job all the way from Hyderabad. The pay is small but nonetheless satisfying. So anyone still in this CGI stuff should put in extra pounds into work. Horn that skillset this period. Covid quarantine is an opportunity to progress. By the way Cinesite canada has various jobs open for grabs. Check their website They are looking for Surfacing Artists Rigging artists Look development Character modelers VFX artists...specially Houdini artists. Visa and relocation assistance is provided. Check them out. This is why I believe in specialization and not being a generalist. With the this job offer aforementioned, you can see for yourself. I always advised people to specialize in one area of CGI once they grab the rudiments. Dont ever be the Jack of all trades. You will never be good enough. 2 Likes |

You have spoken the truth and nothing but the truth. The lockdown presented with an opportunity to work with a producer from the US. We still have a few unfinished projects. Aside earning good on the projects, I was able to learn alot on cinematography from. He literarily tutored me on lighting techniques. So let me take a cue from your message to anyone out there, you can't lose. Horn your skills during this lockdown. nijabazaar: 1 Like 1 Share |

Ok. Still on my Tornado stuff. I am trying to make sure that all the building ripped apart by the tornado should have that eh...organic feel of concrete. So I am trying to fracture the concrete part of the buildings with some detail on the inner cuts. This stuff is procedural. And the tornado force should cause random fractures no matter its axis of operation. Yap. I dont even understand this last part.

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 9:08pm On Apr 25, 2020 |
NoChill: In the 3d window, with simulation running, try to pull the helm of the affected sleeve over the wrist as long as you can until it fits. Set the collision ( properties window) to at least 5 before do this. It often happens, esp if your patterns are slightly off the character |

HAir grooming a lion. This is the base layer for the hair. The main groom, I will add the scraggles later then I'll rig. Trying to achieve the look in that reference. This is actually a contract work, i hope the owner wont see it here or else i am doomed. They are not Nigerians anyway, they wont visit Nairaland. THats why i dont post these kinda works on instagram. I am super risking this. I have a lot of works, sculpts that i'd done that i cant just show becos of contract terms. Its annoying you know. I cant show the works i'd put my best in.

My workflow for this involved creating the guides with blender. I dont k ow how to do curves in maya, not that I dont k ow, I am more confident grooming guides in blender. Then I converted the blender guides to object and exported as .ma to Maya. Whilst in Maya, I used the converted blender guides as groom guides for this project. The plugin that I am using for grooming is peregrine. It is very excellent. If you wanna groom in Houdini, dont try its native groom algorithms. You will regret ur life. Try to get GroomBear . It's a very useful plugin for Houdini. Do you know that you can just make a living as just a grooming artist for bigger companies or as a free lancer? You dont need to learn rigging or simulations or animations or all the associated nadiya. Just present as a groom artist and get paid.

And its encouraging to hear dat afta all dis wahala, someone can be contracted a job. let alone from overseas. congrats bro. Well, like u too, I've spent d last six weeks learning 2D animation. Toon Boom Harmony to be precise. And I must say, its been quite a journey. Plus, I was encouraged by a client as well to go into it. Will be rounding up dis weekend too. |

reidkrugger: Thank you. I am still begging for more jobs. I want to raise enough money to emigrate. I would've love you to continue with 3D. Especially with Animation, you are a natural there. ... IGoing into 3D, my first love was animations, Lord knows I tried but it wasn't my calling at all. I became frustrated, i threw tantrums. Then I thought that animation is the main crown of cgi, this had me down , till I listened to a mentor that dissected CGI industry for me. He told me that if i want international standards, dont aim to be a generalist. Stuck to what you can do well within the industry and recognition/jobs will come. This was how i picked up myself and dusted my computer. I made a list. I discovered that i love anatomy, i love to recreate as close as possible to Nature and i love Natural phenomena too. I narrowed down to character modelling and simulations. I don't do animations, because I am not good at it. If a job that requires it comes on, I hire or partner with an animator. Reid you are splendid Animator. The Rat says it all. |
