We always go with armed policemen to communities to avoid stuff like this.

All this effort to help strangers. Do you really think it is worth it, considering you have needy relatives like someone pointed out? smiley

Public giveaway is nothing but scam to reasonable people who understands the concept of generosity and helping.

There's always a hidden motive behind anyone who does giveaway publicly. Quote me anywhere.

It's either for clout, to buy love, to buy loyalty, to gain favors from some persons within or a business strategy.

Behind everyone doing giveaway, there's this a friend on his/her contact list who's desperately in need of help. There's this family member, either from the mother's side or father's side who's in need and perishing looking for help.

But NO! They'll not help those needy family members, but will prefer to come to the public, chase clout with the less privileged and snap pictures or go to social media, chase clout, buy fake love to look generous.

Whatever is it, this woman experienced. I don't care, because if everyone should focus on their family members, maternal cousins and paternal siblings, there won't be needy people in the public for these clout chasers to use.

People should say no to fake public accolades from strangers who truly doesn't give a fvck about their existence and and focus on people in their family tree and people around them. They'll appreciate the more.

Your statement is like painting everyone with the same brush and it's not good. In as much as there are 'social media fake givers" I still believe that there are genuine people that gives secretly that u and I don't know; people with no intentions to be praised or anything just from their hearts.

Generalising what you have said makes it look stereotypical and its not fair on those few or more that gives with good intentions..

You are right too. We would send this message to Bill Gates, Zuckerberg, Jack Ma and other world organizations. They should focus on their continents and family trees.

Africa is about the biggest recipient of giveaways. grin grin

What is all this relative talk sef. How did the concept of village people come about? Isn’t it from people who got burned after going back home to share bread or money? Isn’t that why some people abroad refuse to come back home and visit their villages?

So why are we acting like family/friends haven’t done worse to people. Are these people not someone’s family member(s)?

I think the best thing is everybody should hold their money. You no even owe anybody.

See ehn, if the items are not shared through an organised channel, one may not be happy with the outcome in the end. Gates donated vaccines to NG. His vaccines are free. So if you'd want to make moneu from it, you'll have to sell it cheaper than free. grin.

If Jack Ma had shared his free facemask in Surulere stadium by himself, he'll most likely get robbed, and he'll regret considering this country. I'm not saying all family members are grateful or kind. But unless public giveaways are planned with some sort of extra security, it, most times doesn't end well

Even on nairaland, you share 50k. People drop Account numbers. Some come back with alternates. Even when you say it's for some particular people, some still come back again with another identity. Let's not talk about the bashings or ungratefulness that may follow too

Most times, public giveaways are not worth the stress. Giving to the motherless babies home, remand homes, and other little communities that are organised is obviously much better. But say you wan share am by yourself without police,......hmmmmm. That's not me, exonerating wicked people from families sha grin

AJ sent lots of food - rice, beans, semolina - to Fela Shrine to be shared around few days ago. From my estimation the rice should be 10kg, beans 10kg and 2 sachets of semolina 1kg which should be around #1500, #1000 and #800 respectively in open market.

To my astonishment, most of the recipients sold the 3-combo pack #500 to a man parked few metres away.

Some companies and individuals have been sharing stuffs to alleviate people's suffering but all ends up in fights, disruption of the process and wastage of the items.

G...n lotto gave 100 bags of rice and other foodstuffs to a community, some elders connived to share only 50 bags keeping the remaining to themselves; the youths of the area have been at loggerheads with the elders and food left undistributed for over 2wks now.

He committed the fallacy of hasty generalisation. I personally know one Nairalander here who does giveaways because the fellow is pained by the level of poverty in the land. This person has also done massive giveaways in their hometown, so saying ALL those who do giveaways are cloutchasers is very unfair.

It will be interesting to know what he has done for his own relatives and village people since he is not chasing clout like the rest.

Go through my post again. It was strictly for public giveaways for show, not secret helpers.

Real generous people who wanna help strangers do that secretly without louding or using it as an avenue of show off/clout chasing.

I know what you are talking about my sister. That was why I wanted to let him know that there are people who gives without publicly declaring it.... the types that doesn't give in front of the camera.

Despite the channels they all went through, can we really say it was effective?

There are people who donated to foundations and the government during this period. So many people said they should never have given the government. They should have shared it directly to the masses.

There would always be glitches and criticisms.

A twitter user @bimbo_cash who tried organizing a giveaway to help people in these perilous times, warns people to stay away from Ikorodu.

A white man comes to Nigeria, gets badly treated by some people, goes back to his country and tells people not to ever visit Nigeria because they are not humans.
That is the type of stereotyping I see in this write-up.
Much as I sympathize with the lady’s experience, I dare say she is not the first to have carried out such an act. Even if she never plans to go back there, it is wrong of her to try scaring away people who may planning to do similar thing. Better to advise on the side of caution than trying to paint a whole community black.
If I frown at other nationalities painting Nigeria black because of the activities of a few people, I should not be smiling when people paint a community, state or tribe black because of the activities of a few unscrupulous individuals.

According to him, REAL GENEROUS people give without louding it. This woman is doing the videoing with her phone. Maybe she wasn’t with a camera crew sef. If things didn’t go this way, maybe we wouldn’t have heard about it.

Maybe our NL litmus test for real people should tell us how real the likes of Gates are.

It is always easy to talk. Belling the cat is where problem starts. I hope there are no more poor people in his lineage. He has eradicated poverty in his autonomous community via his giving.

Yes she was very wrong to stereotype Ikorodu. I saw people calling her out for that. As for Nigeria (Ikorodu), our reputation precedes us and it’s only normal that when a subset of race, people or community act in a particular manner on the average, it will call for concern.

Sharing directly to the masses, without any form of security, will actually lead to something like this.

The other day on Nl, we saw a thread of how people attacked a bus carrying bread. That was not even a giveaway oh. Someone's sweat, and people, both old and young, male and female participated in the theft

Nigerians can be wicked, especially the very poor ones. And there are things you just can't change about them

Whether you are giving to strangers or family, one fact still remains, gratitude has a short lifespan, even Israelites were God deliver 'em from Pharoah hand, give dem manna to chop, come begin vex with God when dem no see water drink, even build statues worship join.

Give because you feel like giving, not because you are expecting gratitude that will last forever from those you gave to.

The link above is another one by Ali baba, can you see the ARMED security men? grin Yet look at what they are doing. If the security man pushes one person in a bid to organize them, it will get to NL frontpage and people will blame the giver again, then remember Nigeria officers and their barbarism.

Oh Alibaba is not real. He is the problem, he deserves what he got.
