You're a baby in matters Mobile Money. M-Pesa is worrying about international transactions. Local stuff were sorted 10 yrs ago. Mpesa merchant have number - QR code - is great but will your grandmother phone work on it.

In Kenya - every merchant - or even you - just applies for their business number - like 12466 - and they receive payment through it. Not finicky QR code or such nonsense.Safaricom trialed tapping - with card reader- those were crazy ideas that cannot scale.

They are two Till Number and Paybill Number (if you care to add stuff like account number.

Recently, RBI, in its ‘Trend and Progress of Banking in India’ report, noted that the Indian payments banks (PBs) have registered a 21% hike in their aggregate losses from INR 512 Cr in the financial year 2018 to INR 626.8 in FY19, ending March 2019.

The RBI also noted that payments banks have limited operational space available to them and the expense of setting up the infrastructure is pretty high. Therefore it is difficult for payments banks to break even, despite getting new customers, which is now forcing many of these banks to shut down their operations.

Trust me , mobile money is one of the greatest technological solution that came from Africa? if the advance nation have their way , they would have adopt it in their system. but western country has invest so much into traditional banking, A slice attempt to bring the idea on-board will have negative set back on their banking infrastructure.
