What then is the function of the skull?

Is the skull not part of the head? The skin of the head is what covers the skull. So the two of them are interchangeable in this context.

Is the function of the head in America different from the function of the head in Nigeria? ... Yes? Are we subhumans? Because I know this explanation will not be acceptable in sanner climes.

By the way, I am a teacher

What's all the argument for bayi That's the simplest illustration the author can potray for children at that level. I guess some folks here are just being sarcastic judging from the spiritual load point of view... Head - For carrying load (physical ones oo), normal levels na! While, Head- for carrying load (spiritual loads) I jump and pass angry

Imalma, the head is used for carrying loads grin

If we want to become great as a nation, we should teach our children based largely on our own realities.

Heads are used for carrying loads in every continent except Europe and North America.

What are our realities?

Not all Nigerian children have carried load on their heads, so that cannot be a primary function of the head.

If head is used for thinking, what is the brain used for?
We need to understand how learning works at the elementary level before criticising any thing we see.
When we were in the nursery school, we can easily work with basic addition and subtraction, e.g, 1 + 2 = 3. 2 - 1 = 1.
But when it comes to subtraction like 1-2, they taught us it is impossible, until we got to JSS1 Where we learnt about number line.

In Elementary classes, we were taught that there are 5 sense organs, there are 3 states of matter.
We were also taught that the sun is the centre of our solar system and it doesn't move.
We all know now that those things are incorrect, but the basic purpose is just to give us the idea of what those things are.
If that textbook is written for Nursery or Primary 1 students, then ai don't see any thing wrong with that. By the time they get to higher classes, they'll learn about more functions of the head
You are a gr8 teacher.

Hope you all know there is a difference between "functions and uses"

Functions have to do with the inside, while uses deals with the outside.

Example:

Function of the hand: locomotion
Uses of the hand: to slap, to punch, to lift...etc.

They have started with their unverified englishes, later now they wil yell us that there is difference between water in a sachet and d one in a bottle.

Maybe one is babalola wota grin grin grin grin

Text books should have a general appeal, meaning it should written in a way whereby it can be use anywhere in the world.... notwithstanding the picture there in the text book applies to a very small group of rural dwellers in Africa and other underdeveloped areas in the world....
You are just contradicting yourself. That book was written so Nigerian children in a particular age group can relate with, and for the targeted audience the information has to be basic and very relatable to what they see In their environment.
It is now part of the school curriculum in the west to teach "nursery " classes that parents in a family can also be made up of same sex genders(two male or two female). Will Nigeria adopt those children books and indoctrinated our children following your arguement?
Imagine the confusion that will be created in children minds if we do

The author is unarguably right.

We did not ask, what kind of load?

Even thinking is a load.

The thing is, kids can easily relates to it, what's the importance of teaching if pupils can't relate to what's being taught?

Even if those kids have never in their life carried a physical load on their head, they have seen others do it. It's just hypocrisy if we fail to call a spade a spade. Learning is a gradual process and the good thing is, life never stops teaching.

Also never knew the book in the OP was for village curriculum.

Nowhere in my comments did I make reference to village or city.

Enjoy the cool weather. wink

Nothing like village curriculum. Look around you, alot of people still carry load on their head.

Education should be all inclusive for a country to develop. It's practical.

You can't be talking about spacecraft when you don't even know how a wheelbarrow looks like.

Illiterate! The brain has different parts performing different functions

The main thinking part of the brain is cerebrum. ... The sensory area of cerebrum receives information from sense organs and gives sensation. The motor area of the cerebrum sends instructions to various muscles to perform different function. All the voluntary actions are coordinated by the cerebrum.

Alright, what do you believe to be what we use our heads for?

Mind you, what we use our heads for is different from the functions of our heads.

For example, we can't use our heads to house our brains. However, one function of our head is that it houses the brain.

So, how do you teach this to kids of that certain level?
