I took my time to go through the quotation.

There are some issues that should worry you about the structural integrity of the building beyond the cost.

Without iota of doubt, this big project is being supervised an artisan, probably a bricklayer, who has had considerable experience in the business but still inadequate given the technicalities of structural engineering.

I will advise that you hire a competent structural engineer to take up the project from here so as to avoid stories that touch the heart.

As a quantity surveyor, I've done some projects in Benin city and the cost of the materials in the quotation are fair, although I've no basis to comment on the quantities since you do not provide your drawings.

For those people raising an issue of separating cost of buying granite and transportation to site, I want to say that person that prepared the quotation was right. This is because the cost of buying 30-tonne granite in Benin city is about 180,000 to 200,000 depending on the haulage distance.

hello guys, please what is the best mix ratio for wall rendering (plastering of a house). can too much cement in the mix ratio cause a rendered wall to crack (plaster cracks) due to expansion and contraction over time. I read that the rendering mix should be less rich than the rendered wall ( considering I always use high quality blocks).so is a mix ratio of 1bag of cement to 2.5 wheel Barrow of sand too rich? I noticed there were plaster cracks on one of my buildings after using this mix. pls I need ur response thanks.

If, however, you're the project owner and engaging the technique of direct labour whereby you just hired both skilled and unskilled labour by yourself to execute the job on the site, then I'll advise that the costs of treatment should be borne by you because you might not provide your workers with suitable personal protective equipment while working.

is both of you will share the cost but you need to consder the condition of the worker first if is a type you can pay all the expesnse for you do it, to show love

It is the contractors responsibility NOT the workers, the question you'll be asked is DID YOU PROVIDE HIM WITH PPEs and Annex Belts to prevent that from happening?

If the Site Owner is the one supervising his project, on daily work and having just someone to help supervise then IT'S THE OWNERS RESPONSIBILITY.

The worker has to be paid even if he spends the month in hospital...

May God continue to protect site workers but safety starts with me and you.

Its quite unfortunate that people have to die due to the ignorance of others. Its no coincidence that the number of collapsing buildings is on the rise. This is partly due to the wear and tear some of these buildings which have been built within the last 50 years. Thus exposing the mediocre execution of the contractor/s. Others can be attributed to pure shoddy workmanship as we have seen with some of the more recent buildings on this list.

Please my brothers and sisters, do your due diligence before hiring people for your projects. This is beyond penny pinching. Lives can be saved. This is the best we can do considering government has refused to establish proper legislation to that effect.

There's ONLY ONE THING wrong with this quotation and its is.

THE NUMBER OF 16MM IS TOO LITTLE, I guess your guys are planning to use 12mm for BEAMS or they have no plan to use beams...

The QUOTATION IS OKAY but ask them if the slab has a beam and what iron they plan to use.

IF THE RIGHT REBAR OF 16MM IS USED.... I expect the budget to hit or almost hit the 4m mark.
