What is unified. Kenya has mobile money by telcoms, Banks themselves also have mobile payment system - pesalink - so you can send money to any bank account from your account through mobile money.

Ghana you have a long way to learn...but gladly we are trailblazing.

lol. D you understand interoperability. All financial institution in Ghana are already doing this three years ago. ... grin

Nope. Read here. One Kenya bank - Equity Bank - bought a telcom license - where they do mobile money - and they are do a lot of transactions - but CA doesn't count - because they don't regulate banks.

Central Bank of kenya has no where of knowing what goes on in a TELCOM company. They have no data.

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has dropped Equitel from the list of mobile money services it regulates, declaring it a banking product.

In the latest quarterly report, Equitel was excluded from the telecommunications sector performance data in what resulted in a decrease in the number of mobile money subscriptions.

“The Authority in the July-September 2019 statistics has revised its data on mobile money services, with the exclusion of data on Equitel Money, which is a mobile banking service as opposed to a mobile wallet service offered by telecommunications service providers,” CA said in the report.

But Ecobank is making money off you slowpoke. Bank of Ghana should MOMO their t-bill like Kenya has done - giving Ghanian the first chance to own Tbill without intermediary making money off them. All you need to do is COPY-PASTE. We are the leader..

The primary market is where securities are created, while the secondary market is where those securities are traded by investors

EcoBank is a beneficiary just like all intermediaries which include Telcos that sell Government Tbills

You think the telcos are not making money, serving as intermediaries ?

Dumb dumb

Here, Telcos pay us interest on our mobile money transactions as held in accounts

They are many integrations. In Kenya we interportability btw various telcom services offering mobile money. There is banking sector interporability through RTGS, Mobile Money, Swift, etc.

You fellow hobbit made it sound you can transfer money from a cheque to mobile account.

Just like the Chinese gangs also make money from your gold. And IMF runs your country. Telcos are not banks. But who knows how hobbits does their regulation.

If Telcos pay interest - then they have to invest your deposit - leading to a mess.

In kenya - all the M-pesa interest - are put in an escrow account - and donated - to build stuff like M-pesa academy.

Mobile money is a payment system which passes through the central bank payment tracking system
All transactions go through them. The telcos have receive licenses to carry out mobile financial services

so all data are accounted for by CBK

Dumb kid, whatever and however they make Money is left for them , if government is selling is Tb at 12 percent and ECO bank is giving me the same rate without any constraint, how is it my business if they are making money.

what you clanger does not seems to understand is , when I buy Tbills from any institution be it eco bank or so, I am directly buying from government, they are just an avenue to get the bills. if there is no eco bank today in Ghana, I will automatically be paid by bank of Ghana because it is government financial securities.

Hope rises for Enugu coal mines a geometric power is set to develop a coal plant...

In 1909, coal was discovered in Enugu, Nigeria. The Ogbete drift mine opened six years later. The Ogbete mine's operations and others in the country were merged into a new corporation in 1950: The Nigerian Coal Corporation. The NCC was tasked with exploiting coal resources, and held a monopoly on coal and coke mining, production, and sales until 1999.

In 2002, work stopped at NCC-operated mines, and till date the coal industry has been lying idle.

But the good news is, Geometric Power is currently working on the development of 1000MW Coal fired Power Plant, (500MW in the first phase expandable to 1000MW in the second phase), in Nigeria. According to the company, the inspiration for this project is based on Geometric Power’s founding philosophy of developing power projects which will result in immediate commercial advancement and development of the host community while making economic sense for the investors.

With a generation type mix of 70% Gas and 30% Hydro, Nigeria is mainly dependent on gas for power supply. With the underdevelopment of gas infrastructure for domestic use, gas supply is even more precarious. The country now has more installed generation capacity than can be adequately supported by available gas. Secondly though the hydro is a renewable source of energy and in fact the cheapest source, it is seasonal and the country cannot be said to be hugely endowed with hydro potentials. A situation where it is constantly used as a peaking source whenever the gas plants are down, perennially places the country in short supply even when the gas stations are up during seasons of low water levels.

Coal as fuel for the proposed power plant provides a triple edge advantage; it provides the needed diversification, cheaper overall electricity and its abundance locally effectively mitigates the fuel supply risk factor that has bedevilled gas as a source of fuel for power plants in the country.

This project is envisaged to supply power to the national grid and all classes of consumers within the country. It will also help diversify fuel source for power development for both Geometric Power and Nigeria at large.

The construction of a coal power plant provides multiple benefits to the nation, especially the people of the State where the plant will be located. A key benefit is that it provides immediate employment opportunities (for both skilled and unskilled labour) as well as infrastructural development in the area. Given the integrated nature of the project, it is expected to attract an influx of allied businesses that support both the coal mining and power plant operations. Thus, the most significant benefit when the project is commissioned will be a major economic transformation of the area.

Nigeria sits comfortably on billions of tons of coal. Yet businesses die for lack of power which can be generated from coal.

Coal production started in Nigeria in 1902 and it was the main energy source for the country until 1960. Enquiries shows that coal is in about 19 states in Nigeria. Expert put the coal deposit at about 2.8 billion metric tons. A study by Behre Dolbear & Company (USA) Inc shows that the Anambra Coal Basin is of seven coal mining districts; three of the basins have been explored to an appreciable level, and they are the Kogi, Benue and Enugu Coal Districts and they further have two or more coal resource areas each.

The coal deposit in Enugu was used to power the Oji River Power Station. The power station served industries, such as the Premier Cashew Industry in Oghe, the P&T Corporation, the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Niger Gas and Niger Steel.

A visit to Iva Valley, Oji River Power Station, Onyeama Mine, Amansiodo Coal Field, Ezinmo Coal Field and Inyi Coal Field revealed that they have all been abandoned with dilapidated buildings as reminders of the mines in the coal city.

Some industrialists in the country have resulted into importation of coal from South Africa to power their factories, for example, Dangote Cement Plc, which had placed an initial order of 30,000 tonnes of the commodity from the continent’s second largest economy.

Experts also said that coal power plant can supply Nigeria with not less than 4000 megawatts of electricity yearly for the next 20 years, if harnesed.

If geometric power will keep to their promise and establish this coal fired power plant, it will be of immense benefits to Enugu state economy and Nigeria at large. This will also be a dream come true, for communities who have be waiting for when their abundant coal fields will be exploited.
