mekaprime: Religion has eroded Nigerian cultures. I assume that you are igbo from your posts and your name. Part of my family is igbo. First, why are igbo people now bearing Jewish names as last names? Igbo names used to have meanings. You know what it means to call a girl Nneka. Or to call someone "Agu"...a brave lion. Now igbo people have names like Goodluck Jonathan. Reginald James, Hezekiah Emmanuel. Then, there are the igbo Jews that claim to be the lost tribe of isreal. These people have been rejected by scholars and Israeli government. But still they follow Judaism. A religion that empowers Jews over others as Jewish people. Where are the shrines of your forefathers? Where are the sculptures of their gods. Broken and buried by Jewish slaves called Nigerian Christians. Kindly go to india, japan and South Korea. Despite foreign influence and growing christianity, they keep their Buddhist, hindu and shinto shrines of their forefathers. Furthermore, homosexuality has never been an issue in Nigerian cultures. It was ignored. If you dont believe me, kindly tell me the punishment for homosexuality in your igbo culture if it were criminalised 2 Likes 2 Shares |

mekaprime: You traded your genealogical convictions for an imported religion, did you not? Perhaps I'm terrible in history, yet I don't recall Christianity being a piece of our way of life preceding the coming of White Missionaries to our shores. Do you basically choose the philosophies that suit you, and disregard the ones that don't? 2 Likes |

DandeNummeruno: How does one point out problems in christianity without criticising Christians? |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by DandeNummeruno: 5:36pm On May 04, 2020 |
whitelotus: There are ways you can make salient points without mocking the convictions of the other individual. Believe it or not, Christianity is a lifestyle to certain individuals. Calling them Jewish slaves is nothing short of immature. 4 Likes 1 Share |

DandeNummeruno: Immature? A black Nigerian man choosing to accept that he is inferior because God has chosen Jews as his chosen people is very mature. The truth is bitter. Every single Nigerian Christian is a Jewish slave. A willing participant in colonial brainwashing 1 Like |

whitelotus: Hahahahaha... nwanne nwoke, culture encompasses more than just names. Culture and Tradition includes our way of life as a people. Culture encompasses our food, dressing, language etc. Name....the name you're hinting about, it's just 5% of Igbos who change their names totally to Jewish names. I don't have a English name & none of siblings has one, and none of my kids would have one. My cousins who were all born oversees have atleast 2 Igbo names, surname included. We even go as far as having a sort of title name amongst our peers. Names like Omeoka, Nwa bu nna ya, Nne nyelu ugo, Nwa afo awka, okwu lu ora. So name doesn't really stand here. Then, there are the igbo Jews that claim to be the lost tribe of isreal. These people have been rejected by scholars and Israeli government. But still they follow Judaism. A religion that empowers Jews over others as Jewish people. Thanks for using the word tribe. A tribe is basically a social group comprising numerous families, clans, or generations together. Amongst the Igbos as a people, we have many tribes, so why judge a race of people based on the disposition of a selected few. Shrine's you say?... Where are you from? When last did you visit your home town? Shrines still exists very much & is still a thing down here. JBL, it's now very much evident that you rarely visit your home town. Ok let me share this personal experience. Of recent, we had a land dispute problem, guess how we settled it, a shrine.. yup a shrine, the efficacy of shrines in judgements is next to none. So that part of culture wasn't eroded. Furthermore, homosexuality has never been an issue in Nigerian cultures. It was ignored. If you dont believe me, kindly tell me the punishment for homosexuality in your igbo culture if it were criminalisedIn Igbo land, there's simply a kinda of homosexuality, a sort of marriage though, deemed ok. Man on man, woman on woman, is a taboo you dare not think of, speak of or worse practice, in the old days, it was punishable by death or banishment ( ask dem old folks around you) In Igbo land, a woman can marry a fellow woman, not for sex but for procreation. A woman whose only son & child died, without marrying or giving birth can marry another woman who'd bare her children. Also, a woman whose husband died without em' bearing a male child can also do the above, so the family name doesn't die. 2 Likes |

whitelotus: You strike me as somebody that misguidedly, but genuinely believe that insulting Christians makes him a cool atheist. Nigga, I got news for ya; atheism isn't hostile to religion, it just doesn't follow one. Given how little you know about atheism, I accept that you're a faker, or a fraud. The mere notion might be strange to you, but it's conceivable to not believe something without abhorring it, kapish? 3 Likes |

Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by whitelotus: 6:33pm On May 04, 2020 |
DandeNummeruno: Atheism is simply a logical position on the existence of God. Atheism does not tell you anything about somebody. An atheist can be a Buddhist, a satanist a humanist, a sexist, a thief or a president. I am a humanist. Despite what you think, I am for freedom of religion. Everybody has the right to religion. However, in an open forum, one does not have the right to ot be offended. Every idea or religion can be criticized. Dont expect me to respect your theology by force. I will speak the truth about your religion |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by oyaskii(m): 6:44pm On May 04, 2020 |
whitelotus:From my observation about your stance on religion (today in particular) you are always taking a demeaning approach to Christianity which will offend Christians whether in a faceless forum or not...just check your post on this topic they are laced more with insult rather than anything that could be considered a rational thought... You can actually speak the truth (or your truth as the case maybe) without demeaning and absolutely no one will "force you to accept their theology" in a faceless forum. And Ps False Atheist/Humanist are so so obsessed with Christians and thier God..so much time spent on something you supposedly don't believe in. 3 Likes |

oyaskii: What is this one saying? To criticise is to risk offence. The truth remains the truth whether you find it demeaning. And so far, a lot of people on Nairaland have appreciated my blunt honesty. There are people on the religion section who left religion as a result of my fervent criticism of religion. And please, if my words are too demeaning for you, then first go and tear the bible and quran. Holy books which call unbelievers "fools", "swine", stupid", "evil" and "hellbound" . 1 Like 1 Share |

mekaprime: 1. So, at least, you accept that on the basis of logic, that religion is eroding the naming culture in Nigeria 2. I can also see that you are distancing yourself from the igbo jews. Nice 3. The issue of shrines is a common issue. Please dont bring anecdotal crap and lies here. Even on Nairaland here, there were two stories from igboland where pastors went to destroy shrines in the name of christianity. Please, dont deny the reality. 4. Then there is Nollywood, where our igbo brothers shine. Now, in Nollywood movies, is the person in the shrine depicted as a good person? Are traditional religions shown in a good light in Nollywood movies directed by our igbo brothers? No. However, the priests and pastors are always shown as saviours of the village. This is what christianity does. It warps your mind against your own religion because you become christian first, igbo second. 5. I go to my hometown once every five years. I am not some JJC London akata boy. 6. Homophobia does not help the society in the long run. You lose a very artistic part of the workforce when you discriminate. See Elton John, Tessa Thompson (Thor's black female friend), Asia Kate Dillon, Queen etc. 1 Like |

DandeNummeruno: That's my problem with most atheists. They are hostile towards people's beliefs. I've only met one atheist offline who doesn't feel the need to disparage or demean the religions of others to prove he's an atheist. For me, as long as a religion is not harmful or causes bodily harm towards any human, people should believe or choose not to believe in what they want. 1 Like |

Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by whitelotus: 7:41pm On May 04, 2020 |
Beorn: Why do you people like to lie? Do you think atheists would spend time talking about religion if religions didnt insult them first? You talk as if atheists want to ban religion whereas there are Christians and muslims forcing religion on us. In te north, an atheist was just arrested for posting about his disbelief on Facebook. Yet, Christians and muslims can call unbelievers, "satanic", "demonic", "fools" and evil. Your Former minister of aviation, FFK just called Bill Gates a demon. This is because he believes that Gates is on some form of satanic antichrist mission to poison everyone in Africa. 3 Likes 1 Share |
