Tuberculosis is an even more deadly disease. 1.5 million people died from TB in 2018. Worldwide, TB is one of the top 10 causes of death and kills more than HIV. The existing TB vaccine is over 100 years old and isnt very helpful in adults.
The Gates foundation is significantly funding efforts for a new TB Vaccine (trials are currently underway) and they’re helping to improve medical response to TB cases in South Africa, for example.
