Statement On The Return Of The Abacha Stolen Millions by References: 4:09pm On May 05, 2020 |
STATEMENT ON THE RETURN OF THE ABACHA STOLEN MILLIONS FROM THE UNITED STATES AND JERSEY On Monday, May 4, 2020, some $311 million US Dollars - stolen from the citizens of Nigeria during the Abacha regime - were safely returned to our country from the United States. These funds have already been allocated, and will be used in full, for vital and decades-overdue infrastructure development: The second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressways - creating tens of thousands of Nigerian construction jobs and local skills, which can then be useful in future projects. Part of the funds will also be invested in the Mambilla Power Project which, when completed, will provide electricity to some three million homes - over ten million citizens - in our country. The receipt of these stolen monies - and the hundreds of millions more that have already been returned from the United Kingdom and Switzerland - are an opportunity for the development of our nation, made far harder for those decades the country was robbed of these funds. Indeed, previous monies returned last year from Switzerland - some $320 million US dollars - are already being used for the government’s free school feeding scheme, a stipend for millions of disadvantaged citizens, and grain grants for those in severe food hardship. Without these funds, the fight against Covid-19 would be even tougher. The latest return is a testament to the growing and deepening relationship between the government of Nigeria and the government of the United States. Without the cooperation both from the UK Government, the US Executive branch and US Congress, we would not have achieved the return of these funds at all. For years many countries deemed successive Nigerian administrations as too corrupt, too venal and too likely to squander and re-steal the stolen monies - so they did not return the funds. Today, US, UK and other jurisdictions have found the partnership with the nation of Nigeria they can finally trust. The Buhari Administration is committed to - and is enacting - total and zero tolerance to corruption in politics and public administration. The days when government was seen and used by the political class as their personal ATM to empty are over. The time of better governance and clean hands in the affairs of state is here to stay. Imagine the level of development we would be enjoying now if all the looting by this man was judiciously utilized... Nigeria cannever meet up in this relay race, the rest of the world have moved on... Imagine the ridicule, because of him America is telling us how to spend our money.. I wonder how much looting fund they have used in purchasing untraceable asset.. No wonder with their money they can't be as poor as dangote. Well they said he never stole.. What do I know 114 Likes 6 Shares |

Its a pity that this money will be embezzled again! Instead of the government to think about City development, We should start thinking about developing atleast 3 states to a world-class standard, Let's say One from East, West and North, (Kano, Oyo and Enugu) This will really boost our tourism and will make us less reliant on "OIL", UAE for instance doesn't give a damn about Oil prices anymore, they now focus more on tourism by building their major cities such as Dubai, And Abu-dhabi to a world class standard, the money UAE make per month now from tourism in Dubai alone can feed the whole Nigeria for a year!! And besides, if the Government can invest this $311,000,000 into power, and upgrade our power sector to a first world standard!! It will help an Average Nigerian get out of poverty, stable Power supply alone can alleviate poverty by 20% But then again this is Nigeria, this money will be embezzled in less than a week!! What a country!!!!!!!!! 79 Likes 3 Shares |

I pity Abacha and all the rulers stealing and siphoning money they and their families can never spend in 1000 lifetimes. imagine what that money and others not known would have done to change our nation and skylines. Nigeria would have been the USA of Africa if not for these set of useless leaders. Now this government is planning to use the money on projects... I just shake my head. When I visit some cities and consider what federal government had done I he past like the electricity infrastructures, all those towering masts intheir thousands distributing electricity round the whole country, 4 refineries, national stadiums, national airports, roads, massive bridges, and elegant buildings. Then I look at what they have done from the 80's till date, you will shake your head in pains. pure waste and massive theft. Look at our schools today, I just weep for this country. This projects, this projects they are planning to do with the previously looted funds, Nigeria is doomed. 18 Likes 1 Share |

Ask the many hypocrites that never wanted America to release the money in the first place, what they expect the money to be used on and they go quiet. |

Did they just say that they used the $320million returned last year for "school feeding" program? We Nigerians are not yet tired of corrupt governments. The day we are, things will begin to change for the better. 31 Likes 2 Shares |
