At least 40 travellers en route Lagos State from Kano State have been intercepted in Niger State, The PUNCH reports.

This was contained in a statement signed on Wednesday night by Mary Noel-Berje, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abubakar Bello.

According to the statement, 19 other persons travelling from Lagos to Kano were also stopped by the Niger State COVID-19 Task Force.

Niger, located in the North Central region of Nigeria, is one of the gateway states between the upper North and Southern Nigeria.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had on Monday, April 27, ordered a ban on non-essential inter-state passenger travel until further notice as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease which is said to be at the community transmission stage in the country.

“Despite the interstate lockdown, people are still moving under any small opportunity they got. I can’t imagine people travelling under the cover of trampoline and sack of rice.

“For us, we are not going to leave any stone unturned, they are going back to where they came from,” Niger State Health Commissioner, Dr Muhammad Makusidi, was quoted in the statement.

The government said the intercepted persons have since been convicted by the Mobile Court and charged to between three months and one-year imprisonment with an option of a fine.

Lagos, with 1308 COVID-19 cases, and Kano with 427 cases, have the highest number of infections in the country, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control as of Wednesday night.

Good...

Let them remain in their state for now...

Lagos government should also look into the influx of other Southern region.

Why is it only northerners mostly from Kano that are running away from their State? They brought doom to their state and country by voting a half dead person and then frantically trying to run away when death comes.
In South here, people make only desperate effort to go to their state of origin or residence and not otherwise. When the northerners foolishly vote, they are proud but when true and responsible leadership is required and they don't get it from their Messiah, they start running down south instead of proudly staying back to die for their foolish actions.
Your beloved Messiah is sleeping and bed wetting in the villa while death devour you in hundreds, instead of staying put to reap your reward, you are running down south to spread the bringer of death.

Almajiris will be issued voter's cards - long before any of us, but access to education and healthcare for them are not the priorities of the Northern elite - and have never been.

So let's stop deceiving ourselves that we've arrived at a "eureka" moment on their plight.

Why are people hell bent on making inter-state journeys despite the ban on such travels?

Why are people still 'rushing' to come to Lagos in spite of the fact that Lagos is the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria?

well if you're not the greedy get rich quick type..
you can message me for a business that can still sustain you with little little change in this lockdown period.
Note: The business is not the big money bank you might want to imagine, but at least the return will at least cover your common weekly expenses like money for data recharge card e.t.c.
check my profile for my contact number and message me on Whatsapp for details if you're interested.

This people are jokers. The travellers couldn't pay their way. A friend travelled from Rivers to Lagos state yesterday. At first I couldn't believe it until he sent me pic. Security operatives in Nigeria are responsible for the spread of this virus. Just have some cash with you, you will travel anywhere you want.

Ladies and gentlemen behold yesterday I was on a phone call with a friend from Kano and she said there is nothing like lockdown in Kano. She assured me that if "this"is what the lockdown is then she doesn't mind being on it forever. sad

You realize that the only people they are catching are the ones that disguised themselves in the midst of animals. These ones don't have money to settle police on the road.

The ones that travel normally are allowed free passage cos they will settle the security personnel on the roads.
