When a stock does 200+% in a day, it's a sign of extreme volatility! One should stay away from such stock.

You are right. I can hold it till next month and sell at cost price or even a profit, but this was a very short term trade. I was basically trading on the news, expecting a pop in the stock price and selling off completely. Gilead at this current price is fully valued, not overvalued. Its price to earnings ratio is also reasonable at 11.96. I needed to sell for capital reservation and to seek out better opportunities during this earning season.

If you are new to investing, it's best to invest in high quality stocks for long term and just hold them. I do both long term and short term, but to me this pandemic we wre witnessing is a once inactive lifetime event so I plan to trade related stocks for short periods of time.

I remember you telling someone else to offload the stock after it didn't cross $100. You are right; however a long term investor in Gilead will still come out ahead was already a quality stock even before the pandemic. I had to cut my losses like I do most short term trades if it doesn't pan out as planned in the short term. Anyone not trading on the news, should continue to hold.

I bought some shares of Peloton (PTON) yesterday purely out of speculation. Peloton makes exercise equipments like bikes and treadmills that can be used at home. Their main selling point is the provision of live classes from world class instructors basically motivating you and giving you instructions while you exercise along with many other people. I have watched this stock rise while watching from the sideline since the national lockdown. As we all know, gyms are closed, so more people are stuck at home exercising and this should be a boon for their business.

This is an impulsive trade, borderline gambling. They report earnings tomorrow and I plan to hold through earnings, if there's a nice pop I will likely sell, if they disappoint, I will cut my loss. Currently up 2%

It may have taken longer than you expected to hit $95 and you walked (Category 1); another category of investors budgeted a longer time frame and are experiencing the ups and downs (Category 2). Both categories will make money with consistency in strategy. I see you turning that deficit into 5 times profit in your next trade.
Even if you got in a bit late (after the announcement), it still ought to have sailed a bit higher as at times "riding the wave" happens.
I would normaly "Buy the rumour, and sell the news", which would likely have paid off better I guess.
Though some rumours turn out to remain mere rumours.

In the month of February, it's range of support and consolidation was Btw 60 - 70. That was when they first announced about the drug trial.

By March, a breakout occurred to a range Btw 70 - 83 . It's has oscillated Btw these 2 points till now. from the charts, it's obvious it will soon breakout again and find its new support in the 80s range before consolidating there for a while.

That's why in my previous post I said q4 will be fantastic for them, they would have better improved and streamlined for efficiency. the reason for the W pattern is because it's still in its trail phase. once they get the required details from this current trial, they will go back and work to make it better.

Well explained. I'm not too versed in technical analysis but I'm always amazed by how much graphs and patterns can predict price movements. I agree with you, this is a good stock and it does look like it is consolidating before a breakout. I will likely get back in for but for smaller amounts and build slowly.

I have been watching this stock for weeks now and it looks like the time to pounce is now.

Overstock.com is an online retailer and incubator of blockchain technology.
It suffered a terrible beating when it collapsed to about $2.53 on March 18th this year due to a poor financial performance.
Amazingly, they have reported a higher sales during this covid-19 season and have a great chance to appreciate in value in tandem with gains bitcoin is enjoying.

It is up 187% in the last 1 month and 17% in the last 5 days.
I will make a move purely based on speculative reasons but I may hold longer as it is a growth stock with enormous potential.

If the drug fails, what will happen to the share price of the stock? I think you should consider potential negative effect of news on the price as well.

For example, DAL was trading around $25 and BOEING $142 before W.B said he exited his positions in airline industry because he believed the industry has changed. Since then DAL and BA have been going down.

I'm up over $3K. I feel like if social distancing is here to stay, how can you social distance in a gym? This company is made for this pandemic. I may set my stop limit order at $43.5 to take me out but I'm really tempted to hold this a little bit longer.

I work at night and sleep during the day. When I get home in the morning I tune into CNBC, listen to their commentaries and news about the market. But I pay particular attention to the scrolling thing at the bottom of the screen which lists stock symbols and the daily change in stock price. If I see a stock with a significant move up, I look it up to see if there's any recent news moving the stock higher. I now look at the chart to see if it's a new 52wk high or if the stock just shattered a recent price ceiling which could be a bullish sign that the stock will move higher and that former ceiling could be a new bottom. I glance at analyst recommendations as well as news articles related to the company from my broker. Sometimes the news articles mention other related companies in that sector that hasn't moved up as much and I might see that as a potential opportunity.

Believe me even with all that, I still buy stocks that will still disappoint. No one can accurately predict the market.

You might also want to ask oga OakPearl how he spots stocks, he's a better stock picker.

They are so many other trial drugs and therapies yet to come . The market share competition will not be good for them when these other alternatives get to be approved. What they can’t do now might be difficult to achieve then.

For it to have been approved, it means it has passed the failure test. It has shown to shorten the viral load cycle in the human body. So it's a good head start.

As regards the downtrend of DAL and BA, Positive sentiments don't only affect stock prices. macro economics plays a major role. that's why despite the good news from Gilead and the bailout to Beoing, the tariffs shuffle Btw China and US wiped some profits generally as well as the tension of rising cases and reopening of the economy . So that's how it goes

Yes I agree with you but Gilead has a greater head start than others. it takes alot to get approval from FDA. So even if other trial drugs come, they have to go through rigorous screening to get approval before it can be used.

Gilead has already passed the first hurdle. they will continually monitor and improve the quality and effectiveness of the drug.

But on the back of this poor result, nothing in the numbers really warrants the gain unless a purely technical indication gives the green light.

I've been checking online for a plausible reason why the stock went up after hours despite their earnings results. No one could explain.

I read somewhere that some Investors like hope. For example some Investors prefer you tell them you had a bad last quarter but you are confident next quarter will be better than say you had a very good last quarter but due to covid-19, you next quarter might not be good.

For uber , those Investors simply see hope , ( CEO told them things are getting back to normal since April,)

This things don't makes sense but it is what it is.
