I went to school and got a degree and never got a job with the degree, and then went further to acquire another degree and no job still... As if that wasn't enough I added PhD to the lists of degrees and yet no work oh...

My point exactly is; Why did you not invest the money for the second degree/PhD into some sort of fund yielding platform? Because this country is messed up already... I just don't seem to understand most Nigerians at all.

My aunt spent years acquiring degrees including PhD but yet she ended up a nursery school teacher.

Remember this; "You don't grow any younger acquiring degrees"

In Nigeria, what you need to get a good job ain't knowledge or degrees....ITS CONNECTION & GODFATHER.

For example, I know a federal establishment that did interviews, but the only person that got the job was the son of the boss, who by d way couldn't even answer anything, even simple "Tell us about urself" cliche.

If you like get distinction for PHD, if you NO sabi anybody, na pass candidate with connection go get the job

Lemme use myself as case study here, I could still remember how many months it took me to get a reputable establishment to do my IT some years ago in Abuja just because I had no connections.

Unto 10k you get paid for by month end nait I waka the whole Abuja...

My point exactly is; After acquiring lots of degrees you still up end up working for a man with less degrees than you or without a degree or end up not using the degrees at all.

My thought is this.

Getting the right degree is very important.

We don't have counsellors in Nigeria, also most parent don't motivate their wards, theirs is to just for you to have a degree, they don't care about the subject reason why many are unemployed today.

Specialization is very important, imagine someone having a bsc in economics, MSC in computer tech, where is the specialization?

If you want to be successful careerwise, specialised, also go for courses that are important and needed in the society. Where you will get jobs easily.

That is why doctors and nurses have advantage, the more they specialized, the more they earn higher pay.

You have a point though but don't forget that most Nigerians prefers to consult their pastors and imams for counseling

Degree holders take less risk than non degree holders.

Many degree holders believe once they finish uni, they either find jobs or govt will give them job

While non degree holder don't depend, they know they have to survive from day 1, that is why many of them become successful.

The truth is non degree holder still need degree holders to run their business.

Meeting an educated imam and pastor that understand these things is important but most don't understand.

That is why their members still remain stagnant.

My sister, forget that, if you are still in school, look for connections. Even doctors & nurses struggle for jobs in Nigeria. If you have the chance write TOEFl or one of those international exams, migrate and leave this country. On d issue of specialization, I did my Bsc and Msc in economics. On two occasions my name was swapped at the final stage. grin

The funny thing is, those connected pikins that replaced me are well.....grin

I am not disputing connection but specialisation matters also how useful the course will be in our society.

To be realistic doctors and nurses do not suffer for jobs, even if they are not working full time, they can still earn.

Some points to consider
- Many grads get a second degree without any career growth
- They do so to qualify for a higher paying job
- They accumulate degrees without plotting the course of their life

Methinks they are running the Rat Race.

Am not disputing what you said. But experience is the best teacher. Perhaps things might have change in Nigeria recently. Afterall, miracles do happen
