Gov. Wike Splashes N5m On Community Which Reported Unlawful Entry Into Rivers by 2gbasky22(m): 12:31pm On May 09, 2020 |
Governor Nyesom Wike on Friday rewarded Rumuigbo community, Obio Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers state with N5 million for providing information which resulted in the arrest of trucks, cattle, and passengers who sneaked into Port Harcourt in breach of the state’s COVID-19 restriction orders. The Governor in a Friday broadcast on state of his administration’s fight against coronavirus also vented frustration on perceived Federal Government (FG) and security agents sabotage of efforts at containing the pandemic in the state. He said, “I commend Rumuigbo community vigilante for rising to the challenge, as any responsible community should do, by intercepting a lorry-load of livestock with 50 persons who illegally entered the State in violation of the lockdown orders. For this show of courage and patriotism, the State Government will reward the Rumuigbo with N5,000,000” On perceived sabotage of Rivers State’s efforts, he said, “It’s imperative to alert the world that a dangerous escalation of COVID-19 pandemic in Rivers looms large in our horizon due largely to hypocrisy of the FG and continuous willful sabotage by security agencies. “While we cannot overstate the gravity of our present predicament, nobody should be surprised should Rivers witness exponential increases in infection and spread of COVID-19 in days and weeks ahead as we begin intense testing. “Our borders continue to experience serial sabotage by security operatives who allow, in some cases, personally aid persons with risky COVID-19 status into the State. “The extent of sabotage has been such that, even a Deputy Commissioner of Police unilaterally appropriated powers to illegally issue movement pass to individuals, companies indiscriminately in utter contempt and violation of the lockdown orders of the State. “From all indications, no matter what we do or try to do to fight this battle, it is becoming clear by each day that those forces bent on forcing COVID-19 pandemic on our State are not willing to cease their evil plot and intentions.” On the toll his restriction orders take on the Rivers populace, he appreciated the “overwhelming majority for complying with the Stay at Home and Stay Safe orders, including temporary closure of business outfits and activities throughout the State. “Quite, unfortunately, some residents have chosen to selves and the public at risk of infection with an irresponsible show of disobedience to our restrictions on human and vehicular movements during the lockdown. “While we appreciate the intervention and plea of clemency from well-meaning Rivers citizens, it is our position not to condone any sentiments on this matter because of the seriousness of the situation.” He affirmed that vehicles, whose owners have been convicted for violation of the Covid-19 orders with ownership already forfeited to the State will be duly auctioned by Deputy Sheriff of the State High Court. “Unfortunately, despite our determined efforts, the State recorded three new cases, bringing our total confirmed COVID-19 infections to 17 as at the 7th of May 2020.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/05/lockdown-wike-splashes-n5m-on-community-which-reported-unlawful-entry-of-cattle-bearers-into-port-harcourt/ 1 Like

Nigeriabiafra80:U are a mad man and an idiot. U better stop all this rubbish you foolish igbos keep doing? U go to a land ,disregard the original inhabitants, erode and desecrate their culture, as if that's not enough, you start naming their landmarks and regions after your own language and names!!! What's that? When will u people understand, ikwerres and River state are not igbos, we might be a minority tribe, that doesn't mean we do not have a voice and a mind of our own! Please y'all should try to respect that, respect our differences and respect what we decide, Please!!!. That's how u live in harmony with people.. I'm tired of writing this same thing endlessly!!! Some Igbo people that keep playing the game of always trying to force Ikwerre people into the Igbo collective. It is only Ikwerres that can assert their Igboness, and it is the rest of the Igbos that can accept the Ikwerre people's Igboness, if they wish to identify with the wider Igbo community. No doubt people like Uche Okwukwu and many other Ikwerre people see themselves as Igbos, but be careful not to be caught in the trap of Igbo detractors 1 Like |

Whem some Igbos see Ikwerre town names like RumuIbekwe, RumuIgbo, RumuOkoro, it can be confusing and I don't blame those Igbos actually. Ibekwe's children, Igbo people, and Okoro's children...... How can any sane man not think that these towns are of Igbo origin? Having written the above, we Igbos have to let Ikwerre's identify with us. It shouldn't be the other way round 3 Likes |

OfoIgbo: They have Ijebu-Igbo, Igbokoda and other Igbos in Yorubaland. You know the current Oba Bini is a Yoruba dynasty. So it's not far fetched to believe the Igbo in Rumu-Igbo is actually derived from the Igbo meaning bush in Yorubaland, which they took to Bini when the Yoruba dynasty took over the Ogiemien rulers of Igodomigodo to establish Ile Ubini (Bini). It's not far fetched to believe that Rumu used to be "Omo" , you know parts of Ikwerres still use "Omu" for "Rumu". So putting all together. It could actually have been that Rumigbo was originally "Omo-Igbo" meaning "Bush children". Omo evolved to "Omu " and then to Rumu. Bottom line : Ikwerre are not Igbos. Ndiigbo have rejected Ikwerre. They should find their Edo ancestors and do well to return back to their original Edo language by recruiting Edo language teachers from Bini. 1 Like |

pazienza: Not a bad hypothesis. However when you start to bring in Umu Ibekwe, and Umu Okoro, which are clearly Igbo names, it tends to refocus everyone's mind to Igbo being the IGBO speaking people that we know. With regards to Benin, you have to know that a few hundreds of years ago, Benin was heavily under the Nri sphere of influence, just like much of Igboland, which is why Benin still uses the 4 market days of the Igbos, and not the 5 market days of the Yorubas. The Nri influence was observed and reported by Portuguese explorers of the 1400s, so that should tell you that Igbos go way deeper than is officially reported. This is principally the fault of the Nris for not shouting it from the rooftop what the Nri ancestors achieved, and which non-Igbo territories were under their control. The language of the Benin royal palace then, was also Igbo, but that is an argument for another day |

2gbasky22: As long as state governors in Nigeria don't have the constitutional powers over their commissioner of police and other security outfits in their states governor wike will find it extremely difficult to stop the influx of northerners into rivers state. Northern police officers and army personnel that are manning the borders will continue to sabotage all the efforts of gov. wike. |

properties4sale: Enyi, iwu ezigbo Anu ohia!! You can't be hiding under the Igbo race while claiming to be from Benin! You can't be answering Igbo names while claiming to be from Benin! You can't be practicing our culture and tradition while claiming to be from Benin! What happened to bearing oba as your king instead of Eze and Obi? Why not call Osanoba God instead of Chukwu? Why don't you bear ewvuari, oshiomole, ovohmrawhen etc as names instead of Chioma, Emeka, Obi, Nneka, Chinda etc? Why change only Umu to Rumu while leaving the others?? Or you think only the letter R as a prefix gives you a new identity?? Why is your only musician, Duncan Mighty singing in Igbo language when he should be singing in the phantom Ikwere language or better still Benin language?? Iberibe gbukwaa unu there! Such irritants!! What is even making these guys to be so full of themselves? Is it oil? P.H.? What exactly?? When did Igbos give you guys the license to use their copy right patents?? It is only an idiat that will be going through such confusion. We Igbos care less where you guys claim to come from, it can even be from Kafanchan, but until you lots stop using our identity then it means you're the most confused and unreasonable set of people today. A village that is not up to size of hundreds of others in Igboland, East and West of the Niger be forming nonsense. |
