One of the steps is buying from a trusted credible source. A dealer that has been on this platform doing business without any issues should be relied upon. Secondly doing your due diligence. This last point is very important . Infant I don't sell any car without conducting due deligence. Below are the measures I take.

I do send the registration number of the car to vio to confirm and send me the details of the car. I.e. ...the engine number, vin number, name of owner on their data base ...auto reg data base. Address of owner and sometimes phone number.

With is info in my hand...I will cross check if it matches with the car particulars presented by the seller ...I focus on the original documents . I.e. proof of ownership, allocation of plate number, vehicle licence etc...I will cross check if the vin on the auto reg tally with that on the papers and car manufacturer seal ..also I check if it tallies with the vin on the windscreen ..,but I don't bother much on this last point especially if the windscreen has been changed ...so it won't tally ...but it doesn't mean the car is bad...if I discover any omission on the vin ...I will not proceed further....if I call the number on the allocation of plate number and it didn't ring, you must take me to owner for further talk. I won't discuss your price cos that is not my area of interest ...I only wanna be sure he authorised the sell. ...I have gicen you enough clue but this is What I do for a living and I am happy I have saved many from trouble ...I hope this helps you
