Dog Owners Help!!! by dominique(f): 12:14pm On May 09, 2020 |
My husband just ran over one of our two dogs on the forelegs and he's screaming in excruciating pains . What can we do? We don't have any vets closeby. I never liked dogs in the house but hearing him cry in pain is breaking my heart. How can I relieve its pain till we get a vet? 7 Likes 6 Shares |

It might have a broken leg. The first thing is to try wrapping a piece of wood with a bandage or cloth firmly around the injured leg with it to keep the leg straight and immobile. Be careful to guard its mouth as it is likely to bite out of pain. PCM won't be effective enough. You should still take him to a vet asap. 1 Like |

Tie the mouth then make him a splint (pls google it). This is what the above poster is describing. Feel to make sure there are no shatterred bones. Try to set the bones then tie the splint. Pain killers and ibuorofen and plenty of extra protein to help healing. Hopefully its a young dog..they are tough and heal fast. 1 Like 1 Share |

He has gone to hide under another car in the compound and he's refusing to come out. We tried pulling him out but he barked loudly and wanted to bite. I've tried to lure him with food but he's refusing to come out. My husband has gone to look for a vet, how do we get him to come out? 2 Likes 6 Shares |

dominique: Try to get the chain or leash on his neck and gently but firmly drag him out. He needs first aid. |
Re: Dog Owners Help!!! by Haroldjunior: 1:36pm On May 09, 2020 |
BigTableShaker:Don't even try this o. This is an otc drug for humans that is one of the most poisonous to dogs. It will destroy the dog's system. Examine to see if he has a fractured bone or something, if yes, bandage it. Do not apply any balm for humans on it. Just keep away any drugs for humans for now. Just bandage and let him heal. Gaskia. I just pray you haven't already administered pcm. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Thanks all, he has been checked by a neighbour who is a dog owner. My husband had to crawl under the car to get him out and they've done the splinter on the affected leg, he was just crying and peeing as they were doing that, I couldn't watch . The neighbour said the limb doesn't look fractured and dogs heal fast but we should still observe for about 2 days. Haroldjunior: We've already given him paracetamol o, our neighbour said we should give him some. I won't give him again. He has fallen asleep now 4 Likes 7 Shares |

dominique: Please it's best if you can access a vet to examine the limb properly and administer appropriate analgesic. Paracetamol won't provide the required level of analgesia and anti-inflammatory effect required. You can get dolometa B from the pharmacy and use it instead. You can administer 1 tab morning and 1 in the evening if it's an adult, if it's still young use half tab morning and evening. 2 Likes 1 Share |

You should never attempt to treat your pets with human medication, precautions should be taken to keep household medications out reach of your pet to avoid a potentially harmful or fatal reaction. Unfortunately, it is commonly assumed that a medication that is safe for humans will also be safe for pets. As a result you could lose your dog as a result of attempt to give him treatment for pain without consulting his vet. Paracetamol causes severe damage to the liver and red blood cells. The only luck you have is that it's a dog, before it could get toxic for them, they'd need to ingest at least 3,000mg of it. If it were a cat, you'd have been blaming yourself for it's loss, cuz as much as 250mg of pcm can be very fatal to cats or small pets. Please, we should do researches more before doing things in order not to regret our actions. I hope the dog is better now. Have a nice day. 7 Likes |

xclusive43:Oga you're a killer! Wtf are you even advising! If he does this, it's "bye bye" to that dog! How people will be talking what they don't know and giving rubbish advice because they feel they have small knowledge. Do you know how strong that drug is? The last time I took it, I slept like almost the whole day. That drug contains opioid (narcotics), that's codeine you're advising someone to give a dog o. Then imagine if the effect of the hydrocodone dose there for humans and pcm in that drug now combine. The dog will just die as a result of the side-effects, cuz OP obviously couldn't get a vet. Next time people, don't give advice based on what you think is good, research, before we start blaming ourselves later on. Have a nice day. 1 Like |

Haroldjunior: It's easy how people come online a say little shits, a simple Google search would have saved you from all this. Let me educate you please, dolometa-B is drug that consist of 100mg diclofenac sodium (a non steroidal anti-inflammatory) + vitamin b1, b6 and b12. It is not an opioid analgesic like you said. You obviously were prescribed another drug(Vicodin) and you're obviously misplacing the name. I have used dolometa-B severally for clients that had to take thier pets home. Please do you research very well also before you come online and accuse people blindly. 6 Likes |

xclusive43:Correction taken boss. I just checked the drug now, and I found out that what I took was Dolo-pap B Fort, and not Dolo-meta B, neither was it Vicodin (I'd never mix the two names up, they're way different in spelling to miss out). Apologies. But still, it isn't advisable to administer otc drugs for humans to pets. Most time we do not know all the active ingridients and we just use, at the end of the day we regret. Have a nice day bro. I'm just a pet lover trying to protect the life of another's pet. I'm a health worker and I do a lot of research on the chemical composition of drugs. I just thought wrong this time. Sorry bro. 5 Likes |

Haroldjunior:It's okay bro,but like I said, the physiology of some animals like dog isn't much different from humans, and there are certain human prepared drugs that vets use for animals, and they work just fine. 1 Like |

xclusive43:Yes, but still, many human analgesics have proven to be fatal on them. Especially Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and aspirin. |
Re: Dog Owners Help!!! by xclusive43(m): 11:02am On May 11, 2020 |
Haroldjunior:Yes, acetaminophen in particular could be very toxic to cats even in minute quantities. I am not advocating use of otc drugs to pets, I'm just saying we share some drugs and we're very conscious of those that could harm animals. 1 Like |

Thanks to everybody that contributed. He limped for most of yesterday and today he's walking much better. The splint worked wonders, he didn't take any medicine other than the paracetamol and calcium tablets I mixed in water on Saturday. We've gotten a vet not too far away though we ended up not going there since his walking improved within the space of 24 hours. If it was fractured, he wouldn't have been able to walk with it. The way the limb was dangling on Saturday, my mind was going the way of amputation. Never knew dogs heal this fast Once again, thanks a for all the pieces of advice and suggestions 6 Likes 7 Shares |

dominique: I lost my baby, a chihuahua just two days ago because of similar thing from a neighbor’s car. Take the dog to the vet else he might not survive it. Reason being the damaged leg might develop Phlegms and this lead to death. As for my neighbor my plan na to burn him car when he has completely forgotten 2 Likes |
