One of the unintended benefits of the insurgency in Nigeria is that it has allowed Nigeria grow to become a significant defence manufacturer in Africa, the 2nd largest in Sub-saharan Africa, and the 3rd largest in Africa behind South-Africa and Egypt. It's a thing of joy when you read internationally recognized defence news outlets like Jane's Defence, Airforce Monthly and they refer to a military equipment as Nigerian made or Nigerian exported. I swear, e dey sweet for body!! The economics side of building your defence equipment locally is almost immeasurable. Jobs, cost savings, technology transfer. Look across the board, you'll see the remarkable design progress Nigerian made military equipments have made. From Tekowi Vehicle, Igirigi APC, Proforce MRAP and LAV, bulletproof vests made in Nigeria, UAVs made in Nigeria and so on and so forth. In fact I never imagined a day will come that I'll get exhausted from calling Nigerian made military equipments. Wow!!! With this new ship, we can already see the future, what a future Nigerian made OPV would look like. We would soon be able to sail in rough seas and high winds in a Nigerian made naval ship. 10 Likes |

nemesis8u: People no dey believe say some people dey wey know pass them. I myself have good knowledge of missile systems. Moving target does not matter bro. It depends on the missile. That guy said repeatedly ''Fire & Forget missile''. Those are advanced missiles that have inbuilt radars. When they approach the preset vicinity, their inbuilt radar activates, tracks the newest position of the ship, and thrusts for impact just below the waterline. Radars are different types and categories. Most anti-ship missiles have an ''approach tracking mechanism'' different from the original source that fired the missile. So, the original preset coordinates only takes it to the vicinity of the target, but the missile's tracking system locks on to the target's newest position for final impact. Anti-ship missiles may use inbuilt radars and high explosive warhead; anti-aircraft missiles may use inbuilt radars and fragmentation warheads that explodes fragments around the plane to increases the chances of destroying the moving plane. Some missiles are heat seeking, radiation seeking, etc. That is, the missile's inbuilt systems use the heat or radiation from the target to track it. So, moving targets don't matter. Missiles are not rockets. They are designed for moving targets; and they have inbuilt systems that finds a property of the moving target, locks on to it and follows it to impact. That is why missiles pursue fighter jets to hell. The pilot does all the manoeuvres, yet the missile is still following. That is because the inbuilt system has locked onto something from the jet- maybe exhaust heat, radiation, signals- anything. So your moving target at sea don't hold water. And forget this matter abeg. Satisfy yourself that the guy @fineman87 know pass you. He was a top shop on Beegeagle's blog too. I know that. 4 Likes |

youghs: I don't think any of the defence manufacturers in Nigeria can do that. Besides it would be an overkill. The 30mm is the most acceptable and widely used caliber gun in use. Nonetheless the Russians have started to use 57mm guns on some of their Infantry support vehicles. For educational purposes see attached video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb11zZhiIko |
