Ikate Surulere Community Group Thanks Nairaland by pompo47: 2:40pm On May 10, 2020 |
Not too long ago a group of people living in Ikate Surulere comprising of Tajudeen Okunnu,Sesan Lawrence and a couple of their friends came together to cook and also give food stuff to their immediate community. The idea is charity begins at home and that who ever wears the shoe is the person that knows where the pain is coming from. They have been doing what ever they can every Saturday since the pandemic lock down in Lagos, to at least support their community no matter how small it is.People had gotten used to the idea that no matter how bad at least every Saturday they would be given something.Unknown to the community there was nothing to give because money could not be raised by the friends to purchase what they needed.People have started to show up and the friends felt bad because they did not know how to tell the people that there was nothing to give. All of a sudden a guy comes up to them and says his name is Chris and he is a member of the Mona Audu foundation. He said Prince Mona Audu and his wife saw a story about this community on Nairaland and they were touched. They also read about the woman who said she had been fastening and did not have food to eat if not for the food items that were given to her that day.So he said he was asked to drop of some food to the friends to assist what ever their doing. They were shocked and said they had two questions, firstly how did they know where to find them and the only audu they know is the late former governor of Kogi.Chris now said in the Nairaland article they wrote Ikate Surulere, they mentioned okunnu residence oduduwa street and when he got to kilo bus stop everyone new the house and family. He said they are correct, Prince Mona Audu is the son of the late governor and he lives in both Kogi & Abuja. If not for nairaland those people will have been disappointed. So Nairaland we say a big thank you on behalf of the writer, the friends and the Ikate Surulere community. I personally want to thank the Mona Audu foundation,Prince Mona Audu and his wife for at least showing compassion and letting people know that their are people who truly care out there. Imagine this Ikate Surulere community is 5 mins away from the speaker Femi Gbajabiamila's constituency & residence, 5 mins away from the Minister of Works,Former Lagos Governor And future presidential aspirant Raji Fashola's constituency & residence. The current Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu's parents live in that community and who would think that succor would come all the way from Kogi state. 5 Likes

I thought NBS statistics said there are no poor family let alone poverty in SW. Let them continue paying for statistics while their people are hungry and in penury. 2 Likes |
