Still you haven't even said anything that comes close to what I asked. You are going round and round in circles. You said religion is the problem in Nigeria I said ok fine. Use my religion which is Christianity as a case study. "I believe in God and my beliefs are set on not stealing, lying, commiting adultery, killing, bearing false witness and loving my neighbors as I love my self. If I obey those basic principles how is my faith a problem to Nigeria?"

You are the one beating around the bush.
You are cherrypicking the best part of the Bible to suit your narrative and I am pointing out your hypocrisy in doing so?

You pointed out that your religion tells you not to commit adultery but convienetly left out FORNICATION. Do you adhere to that part of not?
Your religion supports SLAVERY, do you believe that or not.
Your religion is purely MISOGYNISTIC and believes that women are lesser than men.
Do you support that?
Your Bible admonishes violence to unbelievers, Do you support that or not.

Can you see how nobody can call himself a true believer without being divisive and malevolent towards his neighbors.

different religions set different standards for it's followers making it almost impossible to live side by side in unity.

You can't cherrypick which part of your religion you want to follow and turn a blind eye to the other.

Mr critical thinker needs to learn from this.

Honestly calling people fooools, shouting them down in a discussion/argument won't make them accept Ur views. In fact they will despise what message u think u are trying to pass.

Thus far, there has not been any irrefutable prove to show that Nigeria's number 1 problem is religion.

I grew up in Muslim-Christian home. My old man is a Muslim and my mum a Christian. Till date I've never seen my parents quarrel I don't even mean fight, I mean quarrel..They may have their differences which they sort out in the corner of their room, but we the children saw loving parents who married out of love and live their life by the happy choice they made.

I kid you Not, some inter-religious marriages are way solid than intra-religious ones. In fact, growing up in such homes makes one tolerant of other people's religious and non-religious views. I personally won't flare up and start calling people fooools and insult them as being not enlightened because of their religious views ( like some people do here on nairaland)

I highly doubt the bolded, saying that a couple who have lived together for years under one roof have NEVER QUARRELED in front of the kids at is highly doubtful.

However, I understand the point you are trying to pass across.
The truth is that such an inter-religious marriage is very rare to come across, so when it does happen, it means that the couple really love themselves to have married against all odds faced in the society, so psychologically, an us-versus-them mentality forms which strengthens and holds the bond between the couple.

Definitely any child from such a rare marriage is bound to be more open-minded towards both religion.
Because for the marriage to work, they must have compromised on aspects of their religion and most likely not forced their beliefs on the children.

Take responsibility of your life and your environment to start with.

Who asked you to go for a post? With all your noise making and critical thinking you still failed to get the message…lol. How else can you contribute to your nation if all you do is complain while those who are interest in politics run circles around you?

This is part of the lies you keep telling yourself. You can’t be smart yet allow yourself to be played by the factors you’ve mentioned. Even the so-called illiterates are the people controlling things to some extent in your environment while politically lazy/dead youths like yourself continue to lament.

Shut up you dimwit! You talk about the system like you understand how it works. What is the use of all the ancient history you’ve been wasting your time studying if you still don’t understand fundamentals of life? Where are the solutions you’ve proffered? You had your chance to shine earlier in the day but chose to run away when it became obvious that your conspiracies won’t bail you.

You’ve succeeded in describing yourself and those in your circle. You are not interested in the politics (your environment), but you wish to go to saner climes where the citizens have thoroughly invested in the happenings around them?

Yes, I agree with you. But how do you change this if all you do is lament on the pages of NL?

I knew it… Why am I not surprised by this? Of course, the entitled mentally. Let the parents not spend their hard-earned money the way they desire because they’ve got grown kids waiting for their parent’s bailout funds. I won’t be surprised if this is you indirectly telling us your story or the reality you’ve been dealing with.

[b]If you’ve earned money, I believe it’s your right to determine where you want to create your heaven. You can even create it in your dreams ffs it’s your bloody money.[/b[/s]]
Still demonstrating your tomfoolery. No tangible point in your post to waste time addressing.

Yes u are right that Nigerians may likely not support anybody that contests outside Apc or PDP. This has nothing to do with religion.

Politics is a game of numbers. Nobody wants to support a candidate is almost certain he's going to lose. So why waste the vote?

Do u know the reason why people like Sowore, Moghalu and the likes that want to form third force will continue to lose? It is because they do not understand Nigeria's politics is best played at the grassroot. You don't win elections via online poll or social media posts.

Since may 2019 when Buhari has been sworn in, what majority of those guys have been doing is criticizing, calling for a never-happening revolution and some just staying quiet for reasons best known to them. They have 4 good years ahead of them to prepare for an election and what Sowore has done is to get arrested, released, rearrested and released for the past one year.

For a serious third force their focus would've been to at least make sure they have presence in all the 774 local governments in Nigeria, hold ward meetings weekly, encourage their members to invite their friends and colleagues to join them as time goes on. That is how a party following is built at the grassroots. How do you think Apc keeps winning Lagos? I do see them in my area, the elderly ones and the younger generations holding ward meetings weekly. Do u know those Apc members have membership cards?

When people see them go to these ward meetings for complete 3 years, it builds a kind of image in the mind of the people that this is a serious party that means business. Not some young former SUG president chasing clout. This instills a certain confidence in the voting public and they will do away with the fear that their votes will be lost.

Honestly I like Sowore, dem Moghalu because on the surface they look like they mean well for the populace, but they still need to understand that the electioneering process doesn't start a year to general election. That is why PDP keeps losing in Lagos ; the people are yearning for a change of power, but PDP's presence in the localities is almost non existent prior to an election year

Bro you've said it all in your post above.

You, gensteejay and madrid5 never start....lol. You people keep pointing your fingers in the wrong direction, blaming religion and other things while leaving yourselves out of it.

Simple question: which of you 'non-religious persons' is a card carrying party member?
As someone posted earlier, at THIS POINT, going to vote for a third party candidate is a waste of time when you know the impossible odds of that candidates number making a dent not to talk of winning, however one can still enact change in other people's mind by relentlessly educating and informing others of the need for change both in person and on social media. On my watsapp, facebook, twitter and instagram page, I constantly advocate for radical change in our political and religious mindset. Overtime, more will key into this.

I have made a lot of people around me start questioning what they believe, that's effective work if you ask me.

.
Those shallow-minded people above can't see the importance of this, unless you join politics and contest for a post. As far as they are concerned, you must be a politician to contribute to nation-building.

That's the sort of warped mentality we're talking about.

Personally, I know of people that are planning to spend lots of funds on hajj but a number of their kids aren't doing well financially, and those funds could do a lot to ensure they're financially empowered.

The phrase, “Olohun a se e" (god will do it), is the common utterance this sort of parents make to escape looking at the issue critically.

1.superstion
2.lack of scientific literacy (very necessary in national development)
3.bigotry(there are people especially in the north who don't vote for people outside their religion, gays are basically regarded as sub humans are their sexuality are illegal subject to death or imprisonment, acholic drinks are destroyed in the north etc)

Nigeria's problem today are as follows.
*Illiteracy-this plays a major role in the backwardness of our nation.Democracy as a form of governance is that of majority rule, sadly a larger percentage of our voting population are ignorant, uneducated and cannot think critically for themselves.
*Religious bigotry-this will require proper grassroot sensitization and regulation of religious practices that are not in tandem with the constitution, that infringes on our basic human rights and will not foster nationalism.
*Ethnic jingoism-this can be reduced by scrapping state of origin and replacing with state of residence.Enacting laws that will effectively nullify strong state/ethnic loyalty.
*Corruption-the godfather itself.this encompasses the failure of both the government and its subject to effect the principles of "rule of law".If the law is absolute, devoid of red tape Naija will grow.

I have made a lot of people around me start questioning what they believe, that's effective work if you ask me.

You can’t make a dent overnight.

People have to trust you first. You have to show leadership attribute before they can even begin to trust your candidacy.

The first point is always your locality. All politics is local.

Let me give you an example. James Faleke. For those that don’t know his story, let me share briefly. I was staying in Ojodu Berger when he became the chairman of Ojodu LCDA, he did what other chairmen have never done, he made sure all the inner street were smooth and laid with asphalt, gave Ojodu a new look. 4 years later he went for House of Assembly representing the same constituency and he won with a landslide. From there he was nominated as Deputy Gov to the late Audu in Kogi APC. If not for some technicalities, he would have being the Gov of Kogi State today. You build capacity and support base from your locality. Your locality must be able to vouch for you.

Look at what Banky W is doing in Eti Osa, he lost the last election to APC but he’s still visible doing all sort to remain in the mind of those in his community. Look at how Akin Alabi became a Rep. Examples abound, let them sowore n co start from somewhere before they start eyeing the top job.

Indeed. At the bolded.
This is an excerpt from a brilliant post here.

As adults, sooner or later, you grow out of the enshrined indoctrination , especially if it starts interfering with your personal activities but you still hang around cuz of the society you are in
The religious start justifying their acts in line with their beliefs. They do things against their beliefs, but in secret, because it cannot be known to others least they chastise and despise them. So, the excuses, justifications finally become part of the lifestyle and they are meant to believe that their religious being which they worship will always forgive them if they go to him. Everything is now justified and modified to suit the ever growing adventurous mind because they are key to it all.
