rkarang: 100% correct boss. I know the USA is not doing good but still, they have the highest number of tests in the world. I was at the testing centre a week ago and i can tell you, its a drive through centre. Anyone can go in and do the test. Currently, America has close to 7 million tested samples with close to 1.5million cases. If any country tests as much as the USA, they will have as many cases as the USA. Radical testing will unveil more cases of the virus. Taking the Uk as an example, The Uk hits 100k daily testing on the first of May, what happened to the cases, an increased number of confirmed patients, and an increased number of death tolls. I implore you to go check out France. Now going back to Africa, Senegal, Ghana and South Africa including Rwanda were able to carry out radical testing that is relative to their population, yet the confirmed cases haven't so increased compared to the rates it has in the European countries. I will implore you to base your analysis on the number of tests and repeated tests carried out in these countries, you will realize what I'm trying to say. Europe as a continent with only 700million people have the highest number of deaths officially recorded than any other continent. Trump is a case but we can't underrate the efforts they have put against this virus because of one Clown. |

Hello people. How is it going? |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by rkarang: 8:21am On May 15, 2020 |
Predstan: Insightful! A different perspective, I love your analysis. CoVid 19 is a brand new strain virus... we are still learning In all, is the travel rate to Africa as high as the rate to Europe or America? There are still many factors that may account for the discrepancies... There’s a reason why New York is worst hit in US... |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Predstan: 8:32am On May 15, 2020 |
rkarang: That's another thing. But again, the recovery rate in Africa is around 35% and that of America as a continent is around 23%. |

rkarang: New york I will say it down to public transport. Cities that have good public transportation with a good number of passengers using it, usually will get hit the most. Especially a sickness that needs social distancing... in the earlier weeks when coronavirus was unknown. You can imagine how widely it traveled due to packed trains It's the same with UK that has a very good public transport system that is always so jammed packed..... some trains in London in the mornings are so full, u cannot even turn and so close to each other. The virus had enough play ground to travel hence why UK has the highest number in Europe. 2 Likes |

Good information for the wrong thread. I see we have many analysts here, all eager to flex their knowledge - which I, as a Public health professional, find baseless and shallow, save a few. Previous vaccine boosts our immunity against COVID19? What evidence do you have? This is as crazy as it sounds! Please, leave science for scientists. Leave healthcare for healthcare professionals. And again, this is a thread for intending students. Let them discuss everything that pertains to their educational ambitions, not your wild assumptions or sickening pessimism. I know you want them to face the reality. They will, in their own way. Carry your analysis and start a blog or podcast. Invite people from here if you want. Ciao! 10 Likes |

rkarang:That's for the reported cases. Scientists believe more than 90% of cases are not detected The actual mortality rate is much lower especially for under 70 age groups. See this antibody test conducted in Spain for instance (Antibody tests show that many do beat the virus and develop immunity without even knowing): For under 40s, mortality rate is at worst 0.022%. 1 Like

Geewin69:You only had to Google it. It's not hidden information. https://m.dw.com/en/can-a-tuberculosis-vaccine-help-combat-covid-19/a-53388220 Many in Nigeria got this vaccine while young |

Stevenssen: You only had to read the info on the link yourself bro. Did they say that TB Vaccine is effective against covid? Did they say that they have evidence that IT PROTECTS against covid? What evidence did they give? Assumptions! If it were to be effective, why are people still going down with it in places where routine immunization is followed religiously? Vaccines boost the immune system against specific pathogens. May I also remind you that covid is novel? Why are you doing this bros? Please can we just go back to the subject of this thread? Thanks. 1 Like |

Geewin69:"In controlled studies, it has been shown that BCG can indeed protect against viral respiratory infections. BCG stimulates innate immunity, and this can be used to build a defense against viral respiratory infections" This is from the article. And if you google 'bcg covid 19' you will see more studies. Some hospitals even gave it to their health workers as a precaution. I am not saying that I am sure it works but you called it crazy without bothering to read more about it. You can make your point about derailing the thread without attacking what you don't know about |

Hello everyone. I am interested in applying for PhD program at the University of Florida, Gainsville. I wrote my department graduate co-ordinator as regards securing graduate assistantship. She replied: "The program will allow you to conduct research and assist in the classroom without compensation." Although, It is clearly written on the department website that: "If awarded an assistantship, a graduate student will receive a 1/3-time appointment of $16,000/year (M.S.) or $20,000/year (Ph.D.). The assistantship will cover in-state and out-of-state tuition. However, students must pay non-matriculation fees". Please, I still don't understand the above statements. I need your contributions and opinions. Thanks. |

Geewin69:It is not yet peer-reviewed but they are investigations on BCG vaccine taken in childhood and if it had helped or is helping in lowering susceptibility to covid because both(TB & Covid) are actually respiratory illnesses and they are seeing a very low transmission rate in Africa...It is actually being investigated but it is not a fact 2 Likes |

Hello house, been going through some this thread for sometime and I must confess, it has been very educative. Let me go straight to the point, I am a final year student studying electrical engineering and I intend going for my masters immediately after my undergrad as I am interested in research in area of wireless networks and security which I am also undergoing my final year project on. My GPA has been good over the years and I hope to graduate with a first class by the grace of God. I have started researching on schools but I will like to get insights on some schools that would be recommended by the senior ones in the house also like to know people that have had similar interests. 1 Like |

DreManuel: You've made great points especially regarding the strength the US has in research and the corporate world. However, there are other countries that offer similar post-studies job opportunities but considering the long route to the citizenship via postgraduate studies in the US, rhetoric by Donald Trump and general anti-immigration atmosphere, the United States is becoming increasingly unattractive. 2 Likes |
