Nigerian Ports Authority is a partnership formed in 1955 between Federal Government of Nigeria and Lagos.

As far back as 1906 Lagos Wharf had been opened to Ocean steamers with regular demand.

The development of Apapa port (not Lagos Wharf) commenced in 1913.

Lagos Wharf is the Marina bus stand on the waterfront where Customs Street runs into the Marina. It used to be called Quay side....(pronounced Key side).

Discovery of coal in Enugu led to the development of Eastern ports.

Port Harcout port was opened in 1913 to shipping and commissione by Lugard.

Eastern coal contributed to development of ports in EAST only.

Delta oil did not develop Apapa port.

Prior to Apapa Lagos Wharf was already operational with ocean liners.

Don’t loud it bro. Let them be shouting daily that they developed the port while Lagos continue to flourish.

They will tell us the oil in the ancestor’s backyard as at 1914 that developed the port.

I have noticed something on NL lately.

Why do you Yoruba's like to spoil others weekend with facts..

And you presented undisputed facts like this without thinking it's gonna make some people purge, have headache and gnashing of teeth when their forefathers were the one who developed Lagos ( According to Ochenja Daily newspaper history)

Ok let me make something categorical clear and concise here,

Igbos DID not develop Lagos, forget the "we developed Lagos" assertions bandied about by some Igbos (it's just a way to get under the skin of the yoorobas, which seems to have worked wonders already grin). The creme de la creme of the matter when all is said, claimed and done is that EVERY Nigerian along with other foreign nationals (Lebanese, Indians, Chinese, etc) all contributed to the wealth and cosmopolitan nature of what is today Lagos. The position of Lagos today is not as a result of some yorooooba ingenuity as some naive Afonja's think, otherwise we would have seen such feats been replicated in other SW states. It's a known fact based on reality on ground (forget the scam half-baked NBS stats) that outside of Lagos, the other SW states are glorified villages. Truth is the whole of Nigeria is a sh*t-hole, and we are massively undermined by terrible leadership. That's why we need to either restructure, or dissolve the country so every region can develop at its own pace.

I even thought you were smart. In trying to dismiss the effort of those developing Lagos, you also didn't or couldn't prove that yorubas developed Lagos.

Who were the ruling elites before independence at the federal level and in Lagos? The colonial masters. Hence they employed the manpower from all tribes to which igbos were heavily represented. Resources were contribute by all region to the federal purse, and of-course, Lagos was the capital of Nigeria and as a British colony, enjoyed unlimited developmental attention.

Even at that, In 1954, there was no lekki, there was no Gbagada, there was no Ajao estate, there was no Ajah, there was no Amuwo odofin, there was no Ago palace way, there was no gowon estate, there was no Buckner in Okota. There are so many places that were never in existence in 1913 but exist now. Was it the white man that developed it? The Lagos the white man left at independence is not the same as what it is today except you mean, Lagos hasn’t change since the Whitman left. The real developers of Lagos aside government projects, are the individual real estate developer, converting slums, farmland and settlements to prime real estate quaters, either for commercial or residential use. The industrialist, company Onwers, market man and women keeping the economy running and of course oil money from niger delta oiling there pocket of the government, which it uses to support for roads, water, electricity Development and other amenities.

Nigeria had her independence in 1960 and oil boom started in 1970. Cocoa money only developed Ibadan. Third mainland bridge was oil money, cocoa money started OAU in ibadan before moving to its permanent site in Ile ife with A single building serving as the vice chancellors building but now converted to faculty of agriculture. That was the only building constructed with cocoa money. The rest was oil money. 3rd mainland bridge is oil money.

The East was controlled by the Eastern tribes with Enugu as it’s capital, West by majorly the yorubas with Ibadan as it’s capital. The same way igbos migrated to Lagos is the same way majority yorubas migrated to Lagos.

If you want to talk of Yoruba development. Talk of Ibadan and stop trying to steal or downplay other people’s effort.

Ibadan is your shame, deal with it .
