Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Ibrahim Shuaibu, has said that there are no plans to mobilise recent graduates in the country for the compulsory scheme due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Shuaibu in an interview with Economic Confidential said only Batch A, Stream 1, who were asked to leave camp due to COVID-19 would be asked to complete orientation.

He said, “We don’t know when we are going to start mobilising our corps members. You know our training is also structured like that of the military and paramilitary. You can see that the Nigerian Navy recently suspended its training for its freshly recruited cadets.

“So, the moment the coast is clear, we are going to key into the way others will conduct their exercise, so that our corps members can be called back soonest.”

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS FINANCIALLY BROKE OR BANKRUPT.

The federal government does not have money to pay youth corpers.

It is not because of CORONAVIRUS.

So the federal government should not hide under CORONAVIRUS.

The large part of the NYSC Programme should be redirected towards the Agricultural sectors and its related field.

Let Nigerian youth be refocused for the future which is Agriculture.

What of those who are yet to be mobilized by their school
Like we are suppose to do do clearance this month and go serve by june/july now we are yet to do clearance in school talk less of mobilization
If they find a cure for corona next month does that mean their will be batch b with adjustment in the calender maybe registration and mobilization August/september or we will wait for batch c November/december

at least my month dey count.. but fr those stream 2 dem still dey chill since march nd dere is no end in sight till corona goes

They should extend service years of corps members so that there will be corpers in the country.

We enjoy serving our Father's land, especially in this hard period.

Fg should just scrap this nysc or better still they should convert it to skills acquisition program, this will enable our fresh graduate to learn something and put what they learn in the labour market.

If you have served your own no block another person own... I go only listen if you never go... This country is not easy for everybody your parents or you yourself might be wealthy were by u don't need that allawee what about student wey train themselves wey no get papa or mama or ladder to lift them up... Don't you think that, that 30k monthly allawee might reduce pain, stress worry and Anxiety of unemployment after school at least for that one year.. I see a corper who started business with this allawee money that he saved.. I don chop FG allawee as corper.. I will never block other people way of survival for a year before job..

Realistically, you should be looking at the end of the year. Some of us registered with Batch A stream I and we were moved to stream II, up till this point no show.

A better proposal would be to make it optional for people to either participate or not. Then pay those who wish to stay half of what they could have earned if they went for it but tied to the condition that they learn a skill or start a business with the fund. Training+supervision then disbursement.....Jobs will be created and the individual and country is better for it. This is what I think.
