I was in Cross River towards the end of January. By early February tthat woman, Commissioner Betty wa already all over the airwaves mobilising the state towards Covid. That was before the Italian arrived. I understand the state was locked down for the least number of days compared others.

Three things they did right:
They started early, much earlier than all the States I know including the FCT.
They gave the citizens a more realistic tasking to prevent the spread. The mandatory wearing of face masks for all public appearances as opposed to just unending lockdown.
They mobilised the grassroots in checking and monitoring movement within and across borders. They did not depend on law enforcement alone.

One thing in their favour.
Calabar is more or less a peninsula surrounded by mountains in the east and wetlands in the west. There is just one road in, one road out. You either come by sea or the main road in the capital which is easily manned. Outside that the terrain is simply impossibke. Even further out there are only two motorable routes, the northern axis from Benue/Ebonyi and the western axis from Akwa Ibom. The landscape is protected by nature.

Once again. On this pandemic the Cross River state government has done very well, no small thanks to her mercurial Comm of Health. Solid leadership.
