You miss the point completely, the embraer aircraft in its basic form is simply a turboprop aircraft everything is a retrofit to make it the A29. It was made not as fighter at its initiation. That attribute was added much later.

dragon2(m): 10:43pm On May 14
The tucano was built from day one as a military aircraft. The first aircraft was called tucano emb 301 and emb 311. The proposal was to the Brazilian AF.

komekn(m): 8:54pm On May 16
The Embraer was built as a military training aircraft, absolutely correct. What's the particular point in that❓

Don't confuse yourself.
Emb 311 and 312 was designed from day one for counter insurgency and was not a simple turboprop as you suggested to which I replied .

....komekn.
There are so many aircraft, indeed the Alpha Jet was instituted as a trainer. Buy today it's probably out most effective and dependable ground attack asset over the decades. Yet it was essentially a training aircraft at inception....

Alpha jet was designed to handle light attack none was a retrofit from basic.

We are loosing the core subject question, which i remind you is, "Best value and the most efficient use of resources for the greatest impact in the NE" and to be more concise, is it best value to buy 12 turboprop A29 Tucano for $600 million that will not be delivered in completion until 2024.

That is the context and from which my questions and propositions emanate from. I really do not want to loose track of the core issue with pedantic and inconsequential semantics.

The A29 is a single engine turboprop whether it is simple or complicated does it really matter We could go right back in aviation history to the transfer of technology with Short Brothers Belfast and Embraer that birthed the MK1 Tucano military training aircraft. That developed later into the
T-27 Brazilian AF designation i.e. 312 and then AT-27 (314) or if you like A-29. The basic trainer was developed, retrofitted, remodeled, redesigned, adapted. Again its not important , it has evolved into the A29. The EMB-314 Super Tucano is an enhanced version, with faster speed and higher altitude, of the EMB-312 Tucano trainer aircraft which is operational in the air forces of 17 countries.
https://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/emb-312-tucano-trainer-aircraft/

This training and tactical-support twin-jet tandem two-seater was designed for a program jointly run by France’s and Germany’s air forces.
The Alpha jet was birthed as a trainer by the French and Germans. When you create an aircraft to train pilots on multiple tasks including ground attack and CAS , it really does not take much to change its role to become a dedicated ground attack fighter. a French training version, as simple as possible ; a German close air support and battlefield reconnaissance version, with the extra cost being borne by the German government.
https://www.dassault-aviation.com/en/passion/aircraft/military-dassault-aircraft/alpha-jet/

The PC-21 Is probably one of the most expensive and advanced turboprop aircraft if it can simulate it it can also do it , IMO with adaptations and modifications. That is the pertinent observation in the context of cost. I did mention that the PC-9 has been inducted into the USAF light attack turboprop aircraft experiment, that is what they call it for now..

However, there comparable and would bet much cheaper alternatives like the Turkish Hurkus-C attack aircraft.

Comparatively the South African Mwari was purpose built as a fighting light single engined turboprop aircraft. The approach has been modular. You said it has no identifiable weapon systems that's not true. It's stupendously adaptable to so many it has 24 hard points, the A29 has 5.

Me.
You said it was a comparatively cheap alternative to A29 ,I am saying the low price versions have no modules. Once you start adding the weapon systems the price goes up.
That is why the made it modular.

https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/rsa/mwari.htm
The military variant of the plane called 'Mwari' was to be on market in 15 months. Cost set at $10 million in 2011, but no price given with systems in place.

Komekn.
Remind me why the NAF is spending $600 million package.

Me.
You are trolling.

Trolling you claim for discourse that I initiated. based on fact and substance.

There were quite a few here who alleged l was telling LIES that the total contract sum of $600 million was not true.

Below a few screen shots thst are self explanatory.

I really expected you to appraise, analyse and critique my position but you have approached the discourse with contention not appreciation.

Finally, which would you rather have 50 Wing Loong II UAV with complete 24 hr over watch and 2000 fit for purpose assorted MBT, IFV, APC, MRAP, LAV, tracked and wheeled with a good 15% with RWS in the HERE & NOW. Or 12, A29 turboprop aircraft that will be delivered on or before 2024 projected.

Me.
We already have drones, why do you think we don't have more?. You want us to kill 3 terrorists in a technical with a 1 to 10 million naira missile when we can use cheap made in Nigeria rockets as effectively? Have you seen the attrition rate of drones? Go and ask turkey.

From the beginning l have said this war will be won on the ground not in the air. The air approach in this kind of attrition war with a very fluid enemy moving from place to place has limited impact.

You really should go an check the cost of a 500lb bomb before you jump to conclusions on comparative cost.

Libya has become the theatre of a proxy war between a number of Super powers, Who are supporting the Despotic CIA trained Haftar. His supporters are Egypt, Saudi Arabia, USA, France, Russia, UAE, etc

The actual UN recognised government is being supported by Turkey, Ukraine ( background) and not much else.

The level of advanced weaponry in Libya is mind bogling and unprecedented in Africa.

Some of the most advanced anti aircraft system have been deployed.

The theatre is dominated by UAV's with Turkey dominating the scene since they arrived a few months ago.

For the first time Haftar has been asking for a ceasefire. His Russian mercenaries are on the retreat and he is loosing a lot of ground. That's resulting in discord amongst the militant groups in the East of Libya.

He has has refused to pay Warner Group his mercenaries from Russia.

At the heart of it all is the efficacy of Turkish UAV who have dominated the Sky in Libya. The same way they pulverised the Syrian army in a matter of days in Idlib
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-17/besieged-airbase-shows-turkey-turning-the-tide-in-libya-s-war

Your analogy is really lacking in merit with regards to the UAV impact delivery and sustainability. UAV give you 24 ISTAR complete over watch in areas of contention.

Finally, the UAV's we procured (if still operational) have been made redundant by far better and now cheaper Wing Loong II UAV.

How Boko Haram killed people who were too weak to run after Ramadan fast

BHT Cowards attacked Most people fasting in Gajigana, Borno state on Sunday, May 17, were too weak to flee after several weeks of fasting.

So when the terrorists stormed the sleepy community as folks were preparing to break their Ramadan fast after sundown, they met the locals at their vulnerable worst.

“The shootings were sudden and intense; people began to flee in all directions,” Ba’an Bukar, a member of a local vigilante group, told AP.

Bukar added that many of the victims were too weak to flee after several weeks of fasting, with temperatures soaring to 42 degrees Celsius (108 degrees Fahrenheit) on Sunday.

Audu Mustapha who is a member of the Borno state House of Assembly, said 25 others were wounded in the attack.

Gajigana lies about 47 kilometers (29 miles) north of the Borno state capital of Maiduguri.

Innocent civilians died, hospitals and properties of people living in hardship destroyed !

But one has to be very careful with BHT tricks and deceit, it may be a kind of diversion or ambush to let troops live there base etc....

COPING WITH THE LOCK-DOWN

Several people have written and asked why I am so quiet on Facebook.
Like everyone else, I too have found myself under the imposed lock-down, having to contend with some of its seemingly out-of-touch and unrealistic policies. As I am neither a scientist, nor have the necessary information with which to make an informed decision, my views on the COVID virus are merely personal views and of no substance.
What is evident to me is that the National Corona Command Council has implemented measures that have further eroded an already fragile economy, and increased our already very high unemployment rate. The despondent and the poor have become more despondent and poorer, and this will surely result in an increase in crime as people battle just to get food. Others stand to lose what they have worked their whole life to own.
My great concern is how the licit economy has been sacrificed in favour of the illicit economy. Law abiding citizens are now increasingly supporting the illicit economy.
During lock-down, my siblings and I have had to contend with the sudden passing of my father, a World War II veteran, and a man who taught me so much in life. His passing was unrelated to the virus.
Other than watching with alarm how anti-government forces have been given further impetus by the virus, exploiting the closure of governments and the deployment of their armed forces and law enforcement agencies to enforce the lock-downs, I have mainly busied myself with staying fit, and writing.
I completed a chapter contribution on secession in Africa for Charles University (Prague). I suspect they were scraping the bottom of the barrel by asking me to write an academic piece on such an important issue. Nevertheless, it is done and dusted. The book will be published by Springer, a well known research publisher, later this year.
The story of STTEP, and its role in assisting governments contend with anti-government forces, is slowly taking shape as well. Any person writing a book will confirm that it is not an easy matter, as it requires focus, research, and a lot of reading of documents, both good and bad. It has also resulted in me having to revisit my many photos of STTEP operations. I posted a small selection hereunder.
The world as we know it has changed irrevocably as a result of the virus.
Regardless, we are resilient and will not buckle.
Be safe!
