Hello programmers, it just occur to me that I need to start learning how to code if I want to add value to my society. I'm kind of confused on where to start so I just registered on freecodecamp. These were the recommended topics given to me by the site: 1)Responsive Web Design Certification (300 hours) A)Basic HTML and HTML5 Not Passed11/28 B)Basic CSS Not Passed0/44 C)Applied Visual Design Not Passed0/52 D)Applied Accessibility Not Passed0/22 E)Responsive Web Design Principles Not Passed0/4 F)CSS Flexbox Not Passed0/17 G)CSS Grid Not Passed0/22 H)Responsive Web Design Projects Not Passed0/5 2)JavaScript Algorithms and Data Structures Certification (300 hours) 3)Front End Libraries Certification (300 hours) 4)Data Visualization Certification (300 hours) 5)APIs and Microservices Certification (300 hours) 6)Information Security and Quality Assurance Certification (300 hours) 7)Coding Interview Prep (Thousands of hours of challenges) I'm currently on Basic HTML and HTML5. I want to ask if I'm heading in the right direction? Also if you can recommend well explanatory books to match it up. Thank you. Cc: Seun Javanian lordZOUGA kodewrita tensazangetsu20 |

SpaceX: You are going through the front end route? Do you want to be a front end developer? A front end developer is responsible for making the part of a website everyone sees and can interact with. It's not the only aspect of programming. There's also app development, data science, game development, embedded systems programming etc. But stay on the track you have chosen. You have already started. Stick to it. |

AdaoraJoy: Hello Ada. I live in Enugu too and recently started learning to code(Html&CSS) with udemy and freecodecamp. I understand the basics but need someone to practice with and sharpen my skills. It'll be nice to be under your tutelage. |

There is a new platform that aims to teach you how to code and become a better developer with premium courses and videos, verified job listings on the job board, digital assets to speed up your work flow, a discussion forum to engage with others and ask questions and also a blog with articles published daily. This platform will be officially launched by friday. All ongoing courses will be dripped launched which means new episodes of all ongoing courses will be published every day till the course is completed. Expect courses on html and css, vuejs, react, node, php and laravel with other exciting frameworks. Courses will be practical and project based (not all these todo app kind of projects but real life projects that would eventually be hosted for public use). There will also be introductory courses on all languages and frameworks for beginners to grasp the fundamentals. Some courses would be free whereas others would require a pro subscription. You can also download all episodes for offline viewing if you desire. The job board will have verified and vetted job listings including full time, remote, internship and even freelance gigs. You don't need to be scurrying the internet for job openings as we have done all that and will be posting verified job listings for free on a daily basis. You can also post your own job openings all for free. The community forum is free for all. You can engage with other developers, ask questions, join conversions and discussions about trending issues in tech and web development. A free account would be needed to participate in the forum. The assets library is a collection of assets that you could use in your projects ranging from templates to starter kits, complete scripts etc. Most of the assets are free while others would require a pro subscription. A free account gets you instant access to the job board, the discussion forums, all free courses, videos and assets. A pro account gets you access to everything. Pro accounts would cost just NGN 950 a month. I wonder why fellow developers who didn't choose "programming language tutoring" as a career still charge to teach aspiring devs things as simple as HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript. C'mon this people are just starting, why not show some love by welcoming them to the community and mentoring them ā they will eternally be grateful to you if they make it through your mentoring. There's more to life than just money. 3 Likes |

Emmyloyalty: even your Able Bodied government never have empowered it's Citizens for FREE . By the way, have turned down lots of such coaching opportunities not because I don't want them to learn BUT because it's easier and cheaper just pointing them towards what materials (which I believe would educate them more) they should learn from. I might not be a Super Pro standing Shoulder High with Veteran Developers BUT am experienced enough AND never got there doing most things I see online these days. Am more of a Self Taught person who rose via lots of Slow paced stages; rather than the several lots trying to become a Full Stack Idiot in less than 6-months. The new Buzz word seems to be BootCamp (guess the word "Training" have lost it's place) yet most of their organizers can't write simple HTML without stealing glances from references BUT hey; if it pays their Bills, then it must be Good for them BUT then again, how Good is it to You ? Some have got the Knowledge and Skills yet don't earn as much as those who don't. My advice to you is focus on Materials (which I never had in my time) which freely are available online. And when seeking for what route to start from e.g Web, Mobile, System, Robotics, etc; ask Google and you would be amazed at the huge amount of results you get which would even educate you much better than most of us would give you in here. You could be searching for something and end up discovering a whole lots of others which even might change your view on things. and stop looking for Free things, most people (if not All) on Nairaland are looking to get paid (ill)Legally. [s]It costs less + More Reliable Seeking help via Google than Nairaland.[/s] |
