2) Orlu township stadium existed long before the civil war. It was not walled then but started to be fenced after the civil war. Soldiers with koboko from Nigeria Army’s 20 Battalion Orlu used to guard round the fence of Orlu township stadium each time matches were played in the stadium. The soldiers would flog anyone who tried to force himself through the fence into the stadium.

Instead, a sign board reading: Imo state university Orlu, was placed during that period by Okorocha government at the site of the school of Hygiene at Okporo.
