If You've Done This Job Before, Pls Tell Me Your Experience Too

This my thread is just mainly for single men and guys outside there and I would like to share my experience with you guys on what I have undergone and experienced as a Security guard.

To be a security guard is not a job I can advise my enemy to opt for let alone my friend or relation. The job is a regardless one and very disgusting.

As a security guard, you are more or less a beggar in the street, should I say beggar has a little regard more than you.

When people see you, they see nothing in you. Most especially when you're trying to speak to them in English making them to know that you're educated...(laugh..) You just did it wrong, to them it means you are having mental problem.

The image impression of 98% of people on guys who do this job to hustle for their lives rather than involving in criminal practices is that they have no future; is that they cannot make it in their lives; e.t.c.

Since I've started this job when I finished my program in the polytechnic, any lady I made to know about the job I do turns me off later, some said it's a beggars' work.

And currently, I hardly have female friends not to talk of girlfriends or marriage.

Though, I didn't mean to start this job before if not condition, but now I'm planning to quit the job and find another.

Sometimes, I cried in my room, begging God to show me another way.

One of the workers in the place of work that I'm guiding once told me that his dog is better off than me. This is even the person that cannot even compose simple correct English, he said his dog is better than me.

Your experience too is allowed... Thank you.

So you feel weary about your job because girls don't like you with it? So uncalled for! Rather be with sb who appreciates you for who you are; the economy is laughable and not encouraging at all.
.
I am a school teacher, but believe me that this period is very difficult for teachers as schools are on lockdown. I was amazed seeing a headmaster I knew bricklaying.
.
Stop working for people to like you. Work like you don't need gossips or side-talks.
.
In a nutshell, I believe it's just about the esteem. It's low. Build yours. Stop doing things to make people like you. What matters is your liking yourself.
.
I once worked in a hotel as a steward. I received insults from Dicks and Toms. I was even slapped by a lady for what she thought was right. I felt so bad then, but I discovered I had my own life to live. I built my self esteem. I needed not stalk anyone.
.
#RenditionAdjusted.
.
Bro, just save.
You have the right to change your destiny.
Nobody can make you sad without your permission.

Lols after obtaining HND electrical engineering in IMT, and BSC survey and geoinformatics, I started searching immediately after NYSC, guys it was not funny at all, as I receive pressure everywhere to find something doing expecially from my mother even to the extent of her calling me a lazy man, comparing me with my younger brother. I decided to do anything so far I leave house for her. That's when I joined security job. It was not funny atall, wearing the uniform seeing people that looks up to you, seeing your classmates, your friends but as of then I have no option. Just have to drop my certy inside box and face the reality of life. One day a corpers shouted on me calling me an illiterate lols, mind you I have served 5years before him. People underrated us, talking to us like slaves and so on. Thank God today am working with in one of the biggest company in Nigeria as an engineer. Am married, have cars and building. I thank God for everything.

my first comment this year.
My guy, any legal thing you do that makes money for you should not be disregarded.
The only thing you need do is to look for a way to improve or move ahead.
I have a betshop but currently I am so ashamed to tell people that's the kind of business I do, the truth is, I can't quit now because it puts food on my table.
so hold on, the best you are looking for might be destined to meet you where you are.

The OP is right.....

I did a security job ones and you are not just seen as a beggar.... But people will believe that you graduated with a pass or third class to have ended with this kind of job...

If you speak good English, they will say you do ITK and that's why you can't make the most out of yourself...

The job in it's self is very risky.... You are the first suspect and and you dare not trust your best colleagues.... You can buy a car for someone from your paltry salary if at stolen car is recorded on your shift....

Having a woman during this period was difficult... even the fruit sellers and hawkers will not accept you... let alone marketers....

But Sha... OP, you have to man up and keep the hustle real....

The reason why people treat security guards with disdain in Nigeria is cos they know they're poorly paid.

If we truly implement minimum pay and make it and offence to underpay security guards and domestic staff such as cooks and maids Nigerians will be forced to give them more regards!

Re: My Bitter Experience Doing A Security Guard Job by EdidemLord(m): 11:26am On May 20, 2020
Am someone currently working as a security man and I must confess it's not easy each day.The stigmatisation alone can make you loose your sanity.

But what do you do, Quit? definitely no expecially when you don't have any other mean of livelihood and got mouths to feed too.

Lost my dad when I was 9,struggled to finish secondary school but none to push me thru higher institution, I had to do so many menial jobs to survive.

At a point I decided to join the army cos I had a pastor who was a soldier and loved his Charisma. He advised me to do a professional course at UNiILAG in affiliation with Nigeria Institute of Security ( security operations and management) which according to him would give me an edge over other cadets..After 2 years I was certified....

2012 I bought the Army form and when it was time for my family to endorse they decline expecially my old and sick mom.As her only son she would rather not have me join the army.Remeber 2012 and boko Haram that year.

Instead of staying home doing nothing I decided to job hunt with the certificate. So I first join HALOGEN.After their training I was deployed to a location I was paid peanuts. After working with them for 3years quit and got another offer 2017(still a security Job) that am still managing till now...

It's not not easy as man's not getting younger and man's got 2 mouths to feed now...

So when people Stigmatise, ridicule and lampoon cos am a security man I just ignore them cos they don't know my story...

Do what you do.So long it's legal and aspire to get to where you wanna be.

What you are doing is generalization. You are wrong in this. I respect security guards. I hardly have issues with them. I don't think they see themselves as less than beggars. I think this has to do with your person. Maybe you are too proud or expect people too much from people

And the way you say guys not involving in crime, you say it like you are doing people a favour by not committing crime. See, if you commit crime or not, na your life

From what I've read, you are ashamed of doing what puts food on your table. Many are looking for your type of job to no avail. Remember to keep that I'm a polytechnic graduate nonsense by the corner. What makes you think that you are better or wiser than those who didn't go to school? I'm presently running a PhD programme and that doesn't stop me from hustling in any form, shape or scope. Hustle hard o, forget about girls now and hustle, keep building your resume with interesting skills while at this job, start dropping your upgraded resume like a mad man to any company you see, who knows when your luck would shine?
Some graduates in their skill section would put Microsoft word, excel grin, typing skills, I would just laugh. What happened to I can analyse data using python data science module such as Pandas and then visualization through matplotlib and Bokeh. This wouldn't even take you up to 2-4weeks to master. Upgrade yourself daily, read, read and read.
Can you save some cash and aquire basic shoe making and Pam slippers production machines? Or even attach yourself with a mechanic to learn motor repair or generator repair (Mikano)?
Gracias!

Re: My Bitter Experience Doing A Security Guard Job by pocohantas(f): 11:27am On May 20, 2020
Sad one. There is really no much hope for the Nigerian graduate/youth.

You are not the problem, OP. The people who look down on you are the problem. It is okay if a man is not your choice, but it is very low to put down a man’s hustle. Especially in this generation where delayed gratification is going extinct.

OP, people who understand the concept of hardwork and time, wouldn’t act the way those girls do. Nigerians are very vile creatures on the average. They look down on people doing those jobs you do, cleaners, drivers, security men...etc. Ironically these are the people that make your work easier. They are same people that can mess you up badly.

That is why I always say, the true test of a person’s character isn’t how they treat those above them, it is how they treat those below them. Those people they feel they owe nothing. People they think can amount to nothing.

Try finding something to augment your resources. There are various skills to learn, selfpity won’t get you anywhere.
