For personnel I would turn to Serbia.
For a base model I would lean towards the early T72s
What type of Private Steel Foundry Companies would be interested?
Again I would cautiously approach the Ukrainians
would they be interested in setting up shop at least 1/2 way in Nigeria?
Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Proforce started from Armoured Cars .
Maybe this company would start from
Armoured vaults for Banks?
Something that would entice them to Nigeria

I hope I could be proven wrong. Just the finance/complexity are a tall order. The financial backing required would have to be ironclad without the penchant for government or their successors to starve, delay or pull the plug. They'll lose momentum, increase costs and probably piss people involved to leave.

Building a tank cost a Brazilian company to go bankrupt and the Indian tank has been beset by huge problems. Turkey has 1, but it's also the most expensive (rumoured $13M per unit) on the planet without capability to match Abrams or Armata.

The most important bit will be producing a tank that's capable than say what a fairly cheap T55 can offer. Using a base model is probably the best option and would save a lot.
Tank details should be mostly proprietary,
If we outsource almost all components to outsiders, most countries would already know how to defeat it before it reaches the battlefield. There'll also be issue of logistics. It's why I'll like to see other supporting industries on ground.

I would go for Ex Soviet as they have pedigree in tanks plus potentially reasonable wages versus the very well renumerated European or American.

About the NN, there's some capability in the shipbuilding industry thanks in part to the oil sector. Worth hundreds of millions, many companies are indeed motivated. Would not be surprised if frigate scale projects would suffice in the future.

Since building a tank from scratch is highly expensive..Can't we just use the chinese strategy and do reverse engineering of maybe T-90 tank to make the same thing with a little bit difference like in the structure at a lower cost since the steel would be sourced locally and the labour cost would be cheaper.

guy see if proforce says theywant to build a tank they will...
Possibly in the future.why does it seem impossible other countries that developed tanks didn't they start from somewhere
It may not be a MBT at first
Maybe a tracked IFV with big guns then progress to light tanks and so on
This will take years but they Will do According to them Not me grin grin
Agreed We already discussed that the next step for Proforce should be a Tracked IFV,
That should not be so difficult for them.
It is the progression from there to a fully fledged Tank
I am thinking 5-10 years.
ARA took 5 years.
I am sure they have learned by now how to engage Govt .
Recall Proforce started out dealing with the GEJ administration.

That monicker probably needs your email address. I suspect something sinister about it.

10 year old monicker without any single activity, yet it still comes online frequently, even up till yesterday.

Yes I know. And I am smart enough to understand the likely owner wink

That i why i put it up for ya all to note. Things like this persist when people keep quiet. If guys were all proactive, that trick would not fly no more. So tell your guys all over.

Doesn't bother me a bit.

guy that's exactly what's stated on the brochure concerning the tank..
A replica of the T-90

Stop jumping into conclusions .

If you check that moniker, despite its age, it only has about 2 hrs of online presence. He's one of those who just read through a few front page topics and look for something better to do with his time. You've not seen worse. I've seen a moniker active since 2005 yet zero comments and it's still much active.

I saw the 2hours of online presence and doubted it. The owner probably uses nairaland as ''guest'' to read posts. He only logs in when he needs emails. So, the 2hours dont really define his nairaland presence

So the essence is for guys to understand how it operates. Good luck.

Building a tank is possible but it would use lots of foreign components. A tank is not a MRAP, it is far more technical and complex.

China has a unique advantage that almost all the manufacturing processes (or very similar processes) on the planet are done in their country. Other countries struggle in knowing what machinery or otherwise to start from. Some components or similar materials may have been made in China at some point.

So, Reverse engineering is not straightforward, Takes many years also and significant funding. Some even fail.

If Nigeria want to RE, start with the T72/T55/Vickers. We still need engineers, lots of them.

LTGEN:

Points are valid:
Here’s the benefits of using a cheap base model
Unlike Brazil or what India did you are not starting from scratch let’s even call it a cheap knock off.
The benefits are you have taken care off difficult questions like weight vs armor thickness...
It could work theoretically, but...a fan of Nigerian policies and political sphere I'm not. Revoking contracts willy nilly is why some firms are suing the country. If you give Proforce a mandate where they commit funds, time and knowledge, then FG better commit to the end, else even me go follow sue the entire nation on their behalf. Lol.

Reverse engineering eh ?

If one doesn't have the ' know how ' on a complex system in the first place

how will he be able to figure out the ' know how ' required for reverse engineering the said complex system ?

Reverse engineering of a complex system is more or less impossible and one will always end up with a suboptimal system compared to the original one .

Why ?

How will one access, forget about reverse engineering the production technologies which was used to build the said system that one is trying to reverse engineer ?

Best under take license production of any suitable tank preferably with ToT , learn and gain experience and use the established facilities to then design and build a new tank

There is no short cut to technology .

It would make sense to approach the Chinese for VT 4 assembly or production , which ever they agree to and then gradually build on it .

And some other news outlet has it that 20 people died.
It clearly shows the heat is much on them now, they are trying to salvage anything they can lay there hands on. That means they didn’t go near any military formation in that area.

Senegal has taken delivery of the first two of four KT-1S light attack and trainer aircraft from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), with the remaining two to be delivered before year-end.

The two aircraft were delivered on 3 April, according to the latest edition of KAI’s Fly Together magazine. The delivery was requested ahead of Senegal’s 4 April Independence Day celebrations. The remaining two will be delivered by October.

Training of Senegalese pilots and mechanics on the KT-1 is being carried out in South Korea.
