This too shall pass. While trying to find another job, I would suggest trying to go study abroad preferably in the US since they accept HND for graduate studies. The good side is that most graduate programs have some funding and you can apply to a school that fits your profile.

On the converse, if you are still young, you can explore the Express Entry, the Canadian migration scheme.

That’s Nigerians for you. So short sighted and quick to put others down.

Don’t let what these fools say get to you bro. As long as you have a long term plan to better your future and don’t plan to do this permanently then keep doing your job with pride and integrity.

Don’t leave it before you find another option because being unemployed in this country can lead to depression o. But at the same time don’t take insult from anyone. Give it to them hot or report to management.

It is well.

@ OP I dont even know how to begin with you.Have you heard of dignity in labour?

I have worked in an establishment that the security guys grew from been security personnel to becoming sales agents in same organisation. This guys were focused and did their work differently.

Please work on your mindset and grow. The security post should not be your final destination but it is part of your success story.

You have to just stick in to it and upgrade yourself......I have experience in this. A girl I was trying to woo caught me in a uniform at my beat (a bank in VI); she had come to meet one of the bankers and to cut the story short that was the end of my advances. In later years having moved up, I realized that not quitting was a blessing to me cool cool cool cool

........Your present job (Security Guard) might be your "Acres of Diamond" if you do it with all sincerity and carry yourself with dignity.

........Haven't you seen people doing these so-called menial jobs that were given the chance to do greater things because of the way they handled the job and themselves?!

In all your hands find to do. do it WELL! Have a plan and see your present work as a stepping stone.

No one will want to work with or give a grumpy fellow a better chance.

Be wise!

Modified:

As per the girls - most reject you because they already see dejection, frustration, hopelessness, etc written all over you and in your speech. I WILL reject you also.

Try this: Try and portray hope and speak of your future plans with pride and truthfulness when you speak with a girl and you will be surprised how far she will go to want to keep you despite your present situation.

God Speed!!!

So you feel weary about your job because girls don't like you with it? So uncalled for! Rather be with sb who appreciates you for who you are; the economy is laughable and not encouraging at all.
.
I am a school teacher, but believe me that this period is very difficult for teachers as schools are on lockdown. I was amazed seeing a headmaster I knew bricklaying.
.
Stop working for people to like you. Work like you don't need gossips or side-talks.
.
In a nutshell, I believe it's just about the esteem. It's low. Build yours. Stop doing things to make people like you. What matters is your liking yourself.
.
I once worked in a hotel as a steward. I received insults from Dicks and Toms. I was even slapped by a lady for what she thought was right. I felt so bad then, but I discovered I had my own life to live. I built my self esteem. I needed not stalk anyone.
.
#RenditionAdjusted.
.
Bro, just save.
You have the right to change your destiny.
Nobody can make you sad without your permission.

Good point man.
I have done security job in Lagos to survive till better job come and at last it worked.

Also I did steward 2017 despite being a professional printer/graphic designer but I needed something to boost income.

Today the experience I gained from my 8 months as steward has made me a chef and still doing better far more than people who went for training. Soon my restaurant plan will be achieve.

So brother, no matter where we find ourselves we should learn every possible thing because no knowledge is waste.

Being a printer/graphic designer didn't stop me from learning then and today I'm being rewarded for my hard work.

Lastly, no matter what you do today believe that tomorrow will be better. Have bigger plans while surviving with mini job.

God bless our hustle.

There’s no job that doesn’t sometimes have its downside!

You be encouraged that there is dignity in labour and keep putting your best foot forward.

Look out extensively for other opportunities and be encouraged that things could be worse . One day you’d get that which you seek.

P.S- As a human Resource Manager , the MD once called me stupid and slow so there you have it , shit does happen

If it is the issue of girls not liking you, then stop telling them directly you're an ordinary security man. Tell them you work undercover for Nigeria secret force. Many Nigerian girls No get time to search if there is anything like that or not grin

To the issue of people looking down on you? I tell you it is normal. It is a phase that i believe some of the great men of this modern era have passed through. Try and ignore some hurtful words from people and always believe that Job is temporary. Save little you can each month and move out when you think your savings is enough to start something else.
Browse the internet to have ideas on business you can do. Frequent Nairaland job and investment section more.

All in all, you determine what you will be or become in few years time.

There is no profession in Nigeria that has not produced at least a millionaire. In your case, just learn all you should and look at the possibility of setting up your own security outfit. Check the likes of Vanny Security, Halogene Security etc. Google is your friend here. You have huge opportunity of making it big in that sector. Do feasibility study or get your friend to do that for you. Check requirements and eligibility for setting up a security company in Nigeria. You can partner with some people in terms of requirements. Congratulations in advance.
