Whenever I connect my PC to the internet, even if it's idle, in less than 30mins, 1GB is exhausted.

I have tried different methods such as setting connection as metered, disabling automatic update, stopping background apps from using the internet and a malware scan. All to no avail!

It's driving me crazy! It's a Windows 10 HP pavilion PC guys.

Any suggestion on how to fix it will be highly appreciated

I removed it for Windows 8.1

You can't turn it off.

Anytime I connect my laptop to my hotspot, I dey always peep at window update, if I see say e Dey read I go pause am. Window 10 updates every time

Go back to windows 8/8.1 where you still have some semblance of control. That's windows 10 for you. If you like block everything, once you connect to the internet. Kiss your data goodbye

I use windows 10, even if my data is 10mb I can use it like I do on a phone.

You just have to know how to disable some things.

disable windows update, set your wifi connection to 'metered'.

Those two should be very effective.


You can download 'shaplus bandwidth meter' to monitor your data usage in real time, you'll know when your data is being drained, as the counter will read in kbps/mbps.

Works like 'internet speed meter on Android.
