I don't understand the unemployment rate, 6.11% of total workforce abi na wetin

So we have just a little of over 9 million people unemployed in Nigeria (of 150 million). Under-employment nko

Baba forget figures Jàre. It's economics graduates working at NBS that formulate these figures. Naija has no database to capture the data required to compute these economic indicators.

I've been doing research in the social sciences since I was an undergraduate, I've gone to different lengths to get some of these data, there are no records anywhere . How many company inform government about retrenchment / laying off their staff? How many people have unemployment benefits insurance that will signal the government there has been increase in Unemployed population when they claim on these policies?

I know at least 5 persons personally that have lost their jobs since 2016 till date. Only one of them has been able to get another job. Then I know others that have not gotten a job since they graduated till date.

All those unemployment rate figures u see does not in anyway represent the reality on ground at all. The recently concluded Lagos state teacher's recruitment ; they were recruiting for just 1,000 teachers but they received 50,000 applications. So 1,000 were selected on merit + connection + long leg. Now what happens to the 49,000 that were not selected?

Imagine if we have about 49,000 that couldn't make it to the teaching job's finale, what about engineers, accountants etc?

Once again, forget those figures.

Sorry to ask folks, news around town is that the Nigerian president is a complete failure like the loser here too. So why are some of y'all supporting him? Are this like folks from his political party or something, like the GOP and DNC shiiit fight.

Most of these figures can never be verified, unfortunately.

Nigeria has the capacity to generate 8000MW, are they really generating 8000MW? No. They may even be generating about half of that on the average. In a country where we don't even have a correct estimate of the population, it will be hard to trust any data the government or government sponsored press throws out. What can we do but to murmur? This is the 6th year since Buhari was sworn in, yet we still depend on census conducted last in 2006 (I'm not sure about this). What kind of inclusive effective planning can a government do without correct data?

We are talking about school feeding program when the standard of classrooms and education is very poor. We are not serious yet. Our curriculum needs updating, schools should take IT very serious, mode of teaching should change to prepare these kids for the future so they are not left behind, but we are talking about school feeding? Something is wrong with us in this country.

I have somebody like that in my office. She's a senior colleague that has sympathy for apc and is always optimistic about this current administration. She drops figures like that too, but when I'm in my good mood I start debunking those cooked up figures.

When I remind her of the non-stopping increase in her children's fees since the advent of this administration, how much she fuels her car now, how the car park at marina has increased parking fees from ₦500 to as much as ₦750 daily, how the company's investment income is no longer anything to write home about......etc all in response to how things has deteriorated economic wise. She mostly will just say I should go with my wàhálà and end it all by saying at least there is no stealing/wanton looting going on like we had under Jonathan.

I just shake my head and move on. They keep talking about the GDP growing blah blah blah....Yet u see more and more business men and traders defaulting on loans due to unfavorable economic conditions, FX issues and what have u.

This why I always try to avoid topics like this. Depending on whom I am having this debate with, I may be called an APC sympathizer or PDP apologist. Whereas all I interested in are verifiable facts, not some abracadabra figures.

Fact is that Nigeria still generates about 4000MW daily. There are some peak period which doesn't last at all and they are back to 4000MW again

Baba forget Jàre. Only someone sympathetic with Apc will score Buhari high on security. His administration has not only been unable to deal with Boko Haram decisively as promised, but his administration has added a baggage of insecurity challenges from Fulani Herdsmen and Armed Bandits in the north central and Northwest respectively. These things are facts and not deniable.

Jonathan was booted out for failing to nip the boko haram menace in the north east in the bud, but we've seen how the north central states of Benue, Plateau etc have witnessed Fulani Herdsmen killings under this administration. We've seen how Armed Bandits in North west states like Zamfara have held sway.

While bàbà was expected to solve a Problem, two more problems joined the initial one making it 3.

Sometime in the future, many adult Nigerians will look back at the period, 2015–2023, and realize it's one of the worst eras in the history of this country, only outdone by the Great Britain's colonization of Nigeria, Biafra War of 1967, and a handful of coups in the military era.

I laughed when people were rejoicing about increase in minimum wage. Has their spending power really increased? Government increased the minimum wage on one hand and is collecting back through all the various taxes being introduced almost on a weekly basis etc. I have no problem against tax, I do not think education should be as cheap as it is currently, but only a naive man will refuse to see that the increase in minimum wage is a trojan gift. The deception stinks.

It could have been better if you had replied separately but any which way, it’s cool.

1. Herdsmen and farmers clash didn’t start today or 2015, you can do your independent research on what has been causing clashes between herdsmen and farmers. Ditto for kidnapping. These are meant to be crime that the Police force will tackle heads on and I do agree that the police force has been nothing to write home about.

2. How can Buhari made $1 to make 1 Naira?

3. You asked me what the FG has done on electricity and after I told you, you are saying it’s shalaye? grin

4. Saying you don’t know if N-Power exist in the west should end this discussion without stress.

5. How much do you think the government should be paying as minimum wage considering the current reality?

6. Maybe you should go and read more about NHGSFP.

7. Youths under N-Power are been paid 30k monthly stipend.

8. What’s PDP members witch hunt? Did they steal or not? Which party just left the helm of affairs? Was it not PDP?

You really need to understand how your country works. The FG is limited in the scope of his powers. The FG cannot force laws on State government. The federal government under Jonathan already signed the FOI bill into law, let those CSO go drag their respective state govenors who has refused to signed the FOI into law in their respective states.

The FG under Buhari signed the whistleblower policy. He sent a special court bill for corruption to the National Assembly which was declined. Instiutionized corruption can only be rooted out with the help of the National Assembly, without that, nothing will happen.

Look at the poem I wrote in support of Buhari in 2015
https://www.nairaland.com/2147781/poem-change
Plus the numerous fights I had with Jonathan's people.

But I can't open my mouth and say Buhari has performed well. The number of atrocious things he has done far outweighs any good he has done. If he had any iota of decency like we all thought, he would have resigned.

Nobody should be quoting phantom figures here, because GEJ guys also did the same. Of course every government will have some achievements, but are these achievements not far below what should be expected from a responsible government?

Just go through that useless poem and see if you can't still relate that poem to the current state of Nigeria.
