Growing up in the east i developed the mindset that Igbos hate yourba and Yorubas hate igbos even when I was yet to have any personal dealings with any yourba person.

Then back in those days, some Yoruba boys came to my hood for a tiling job, this guys were very nice to us we were nice to them as well. We became friends to the extent that even after their job was done, they had to spend an extra one week with us. I was now like maybe they are different breed of yourba people.

When I got admission in UNN, everything changed. We had few yourba ppl in my department, but the love we have for them was enormous to the point that one was voted as the departmental president - this is an Igbo dominated school. After seeing all the love most of us Igbo had for this Yoruba students, I started thinking maybe is just yourba people that hate igbos.

Fast forward to my service year, Infact when I was posted to Yoruba land I was scared, I was jus asking myself how can I survive amidst this people that will hate me because am Igbo? But when I got there it was a different story, my landlord refused to collect rent from me because according to him when he served in the East many years ago they were very nice to him.

This is my 4th year in yourba land, am yet to see anyone that hate me nor anyone I hate. Please if you have problem with chukwudi or with kehinde, let your anger be directed to them alone. Don't condemn a whole tribe that ranges in millions all because of the microscopic few that wronged you and before you say Igbos hate yourbas or Yourbas hate igbos, ask yourself how many of them do you hate personally?

Personally, I'm a very detribalised Nigerian and a proud Igbo man. I have friends from all tribes in Nigeria and it dates back to my secondary school years. I love every Nigerian irrespective of tribe and religion.

During my M.Sc. programme in UI, I was among the popular(if not the most popular) PG students of the Department. I made friends from all tribes that I met over there and we still maintain good contacts. In fact, my roommate throughout the third semester of the programme was a Yoruba Muslim and an Alfa at that(while I'm an Igbo & Christian) yet, we saw each other as brothers and we are still maintaining good contacts. We learned a lot from each other because we ceased the opportunity to always share constructive opinions on religious, political and multicultural issues of Nigeria. We cooked and ate from the same pot, enjoying Igbo and Yoruba delicacies prepared by myself and him respectively. Honestly, he remains a very good friend and brother to reckon on. So, let us stop the media hate and focus on the best ways to move Nigeria forward via love, peace, equity, justice and truthfulness!

Together we can fight our divide and rule politicians because they have always enjoyed great political capital from instigation of ethnoreligious sentiments amongst the masses.Hence, they are our greatest problem.

The point is this , if two beautiful girls live in a street, you must not put one before the other else chaos, an average African like you to puff there ego, so Yoruba and Igbo are not different.


When they go abroad, they defend, fend , and relate well.

Every Saturday they intermarry, every Monday they do business together, every Friday they party.

They both love life and education and adventure


Give this two crazy but beautiful tribes regionalism, watch them grow faster .
