Guy, coronavirus messed up my December plans. SERIOUSLY

But I can't complain, the pandemic is a more serious issue than trivial holiday cancellations

There is no country without its own drawbacks. I remember getting to the UK in the '90s, and having to do a 20-minute walk, from the nearest bus stop to my house in the frigging cold, every single day for months.

I worked in a rather exclusive part of town, and every few metres a police patrol car would drive by and stare at you, once you were black.

I got questioned a few times just for walking down that street. Something that never happened to my white colleagues.

Everywhere has its own stress. At least, in Naija your money can buy you comfort, if you have enough.
do u know in naija if u not well dressed or u heavily bearded u can also get stopped by the police and sometimes beaten up? there was one that happened in benin.this guy was heavily bearded and wearing a singlet and he went to the atm to retrieve some money but got stopped by the police and ordered to enter into the police car and when he refused the police swopped on hikm with gun butts booting him to the ground.it was onlookers that gathered and prevented the police from bundling him into the police car.wen i saw video of him on itv he was all bloodied.what was his crime? his crime was because he had heavy beards like pete edochie hence the reckoned he must be a cult guy.at least in uk if u blk the police will just stop and question u.but in naija if u wearing camos,t shirt having beards or shaven heard our police will start beating u cos in their mind u must be a cultist.

Thanks but am not wrong people worked hard in the old days and they go their rightful benefits

This is 1979 again honestly no clear path just instructors does bvn that we gave them everything not show them assets or even social security number this is borderline control but your still borrowing

Stamp duty on 10,000 and above great move but declaration of assets is a government position only requirement in other countries

Electricity has improved we can actually hear what nature sounds like but jobs aren’t being created we are loaning money from people with no foreseeable way or venture created to payback

Work with your people how many countries exited as opposed to entered Nigeria since 2014

My business only survived because I had foresight you can never build dreams resenting your past be free from it corruption is a mindset that some may have and some may not have what about the one your working for

You cannot compare us now to the 90s with global leadership the rice needs work too our currency is on the map but we must leave our footprints in the sands of time build and enrich people not from the pockets of your enemies but from our contributions

anyway can someone be able to afford living outside london if his workplace is in london?

I'm not gonna lie...I miss Nigeria sometimes which makes me flirt with the idea of splitting my time there when my kids are older. I miss my family, my friends and the sense of community.

But then I remember lack of internet and electricity, horrific healthcare system, bad roads, bigotry, lack of value for human life, insecurity, police brutality, immense corruption, tribalism, crumbling or non-existent economy and a million other horrible things. This quickly resets my mind.

My solution which I'm currently working on is to bring my sisters and my best friend over to live in Sydney with me and make good living for themselves. Then I won't have any business with Nigeria anymore except to visit my parents every two years.

So to answer your question: no, nein, never!!!

You tend to earn more in London, and houses outside of London tend to be cheaper (depending on where you are), so that actually sounds like a decent arrangement, transportation is what will probably disrupt that balance because travelling costs can be extortionate.

I wouldn't recommend it, don't be fooled by the semi-decent Nollywood movies on Netflix or Amazon. Nigeria is a hard country to live in. Everyone is angry, there is corruption from the top to the bottom, there is no functioning public service, in 2020, there is zero electricity/security/Healthcare. Roads here are death-traps and the Government didn't even give Nigerians any palliatives during the Draconian lockdown.

As we speak, unborn Nigerian babies are practicing their corruption skills where ever they are.

So basically stay where you are, in this case the grass is uglier, sinister, murkier and not greener.

My God, I have never laughed so hard!!!!!!!!! grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Different strokes for different folks. I have flirted with the idea of relocating a couple of times but the fact that I'd suddenly be alone in a new environment far away from family and start learning to struggle and adjust to the environment, puts me off. I'd also struggle with the food if I can't get it to buy easily. All in all, I'm not really sure I can make that bold step except things get so bad that one can't manage. So you guys should stop talking like anyone who wants to come back home is not thinking right.

look up Forbes' list and see the list of Nigerians who do legitimate business, pay taxes and also doing fine in their various chosen careers. I just remember Lifebank and I smiled. Look right and you'd see opportunities. Unfortunately, you only cite bad examples and I guess that's what you've set your mind to see. There are bad people everywhere even in the world. I remember my MBA days at Ross School of Business in Michigan. A white guy was sentenced to 2 months of community service for shooting the radar (speed) limit. There are opportunities here boku boku.

I guess you misquoted my comments, because what you have just said has nothing to do with my comments. Well before I leave, did the white guy even try to bribe the traffic warden who apprehended him? if he did, did the traffic warden collect the bribe such that he had to not do the community service? I am waiting for your response please.

I do agree that there are opportunities but think about it, by mid-century, Nigeria would become more populated than the US and with a dysfunctional government, I can only imagine the chaos then. A large population is good (Brazil, India, Indonesia, Vietnam etc) but with a functional and responsive government. Regarding those folks and Lifebank or even WeCyclers, most have second/triple citizenships. So they have options and in this life, having options to do whatever one desires is important and beneficial. Even you, I can wager is an American citizen. So leaving is not bad as most of you returnees make it to look like provided it is legal. Besides, some of these tech folks are children of those fled in the '80s & '90s, so if anyone decides to do same now for his/her children to come benefit from the business opportunities in the future, fantastic! But saying people should not leave when you left is hypocritical.
