Okay...so the 30 million people that lost their job in USA made a mistake by voting Donald Trump or what are you saying?

Everything is caused by Buhari... even when a drunk man falls into the gutter, it is Buhari's fault. Do you know that some people who have nothing to do with government have become millionaires, started businesses, got juicy contracts and jobs since 2015?
Buhari has his issues, but is definitely not the cause of all the problems we may have.

see your reasoning so if nigeria turn to dubai over night who will take all the glory ?

but it is not his fault if we find ourselves in recession abi

most of those people did not become unavailable permanently. it was only temporary due to the shutdown.

jobs like in aviation industry, manufacturing, transportation and all that will return once everything is over.

also know that most of those workers in the US are being furloughed not sacked.

I know you think US is your useless Nigeria.

When would everything be over? 2 years time or thereabout. Banks(businesses) don't sack or close down shops and everything goes back to normal.

See how shallow you are calling Nigeria "useless".

may be you are useless but I know many Nigerians that are NOT.

Laid off and furlough doesn't mean that you will be rehired. Some are just using the word furlough because they took Federal money through the CARES program which states that they cannot fire their employees or else they will not qualify for the loans and other freebies.
I have worked for at least 5 top fortune 500 US companies and I know how they think and operate.
Yes, they will love to hire back these people just like Access would too if business is booming but it will not "automatically" go back to booming as soon as you naively stated. Even the most optimistic economist knows it will take time to get back to where we used to be.

Are people going to be going to restaurants like they used to, are they going to be flying like they used to, are they going to feel comfortable going on vacations like they used to knowing they could get laid off anytime, are they going to be buying cars and electronic like they used to ? HELL NO.

The airlines will have to reduce their flight schedule which in turn will reduce the demand for staff, planes, food vendors, cleaning vendors and the list goes on and on.
Pls go to business school or at least learn some basic economics reality before posting trash.

Thanks for this practical advice

2 weeks was enough to get our acts together, instead we chose to copy the West who can always manipulate all the world economic organizations in their favor. Do we really understand that we are Africans or we think we are Europeans & Americans. No right thinking African country should have joined the lockdown, same way Europe and America weren't lockdown during Ebola, shutting down the economy is too expensive for any African country to deal with. This is only the beginning. We just don't have leaders and followers with sense
lock down is the best way to contain this thing sis

We can't afford lockdown, the after effect will mean massive loss of jobs.

we are very sure access is never going to hire back people. they have been looking excuse to get rid of workers inherited from diamond Bank.

nothing goes back to normal in Nigeria. we just adapt to whatever situation we found ourselves. most people affected during the recent recession are still waiting to be called back.

people will go back to their normal lifestyle once there is a vaccine. it only takes months, everyone forget about covid19 and they start flying round the world again.

we are talking about working countries and you bring up useless Nigeria. will any bankrupted or cash strapped company get any benefit/financial assistance from your Nigerian government?

Ok but bear in mind that Nigeria government is useless because the Nigerian people are just as useless. The government is 100% reflection of the people it derives from! Don't forget that.

Oh, really pity her. Never depend on anyone/ organization, disappointments are bound to set in. Honestly, I don't like bank jobs, the stress and all. And big thanks to this lockdown and a friend who pushed me, I had the opportunity to think out of the box. Working for someone isn't all that easy. Be your own boss, start little.

Consistency beats talents. grin
Las las we all go smile.

What were you all expecting to be the outcome of a total economy lock-down without proper planning undecided

But tell me d professional sense in this cos as a professional accountant, I still could not understand d retrenchment. No one is an island of knowledge, the say;

This bank and some other organizations went ahead to donate billions of naira to the government to simply reduce 'death' dat would be caused by the pandemic, knowing dat staffs are likely to be retrenched at d end of it all. But why not use the money to sustain the workers as palliative measures rather than lavishing it on d government who already had our taxes trapped in their care?

I am sure d said retrenched workers would even appreciate this kind of gesture if it had come earlier before the advent of the pandemic, because this at this time, looks more of cruelty than economy: absolute man's inhumanity to man.

Does the donation achieve the purpose?
As of today their are 385 discharged of covid-19 and 85 deaths.
But at the same time, due to d retrenchment, there were over 1000 admitted at d hospitals and over 600 like deaths... from a reliable source
