In Nigeria we don’t produce anything and this is an outcome of such a predicament. The version of the lotion for children is available but not in the hospital at the moment. If you try to sue the hospital will only blame it on staff negligence, fire the worker, pay you a paltry sum and continue their business.

Take am easy no sue them because of cream , they may be a mistake and no one is above That .

Its not ordinary sir, imagine what could happen to the child if they had totally trusted the hospital's judgment and administer the drugs without researching about it? It takes just one ruling to deter other!

We noticed some rash in our 4 months old baby's sex organ which I perceived is a reaction from her diapers, we took her to the hospital for checkup and they recommended anti fungal cream to be applied and instructed that we don't wear her diapers for now while we apply the cream.

While waiting at the hospital pharmacy I noticed the attendant was taking longer time to attend to me, because the doctor had already written to them what they should give to me with my baby's file in front of the attendant. The attendant still asked how old is the baby I said 4 months. She was just giving excuses that she's coming that I should be patient, so I sat down.

After some time she brought the cream and some drugs. We left and got home very late last night, so my wife suggested my baby should start the drugs by morning but we should apply the cream given to us and we did not wear our baby diaper as instructed.

So this morning my wife decided to read through the leaflet in each of the drugs including the cream. To our greatest surprise the cream was strictly meant for adults and it was categorically stated it should not be used for children under age 18

Now, I'm wondering why would the hospital pharmacy attendant give us such cream. Is it that the prescribed cream wasn't available that was why she was going to and fro like the devil described in the book of Job in the Holy Bible.

Please what's your advise on this matter, is it a careless mistake or it was a deliberate act.

what is name of cream? if you have good evidences, use them.

shocked

I hate hospitals sha... its only online that doctors and nurses act all nice and live saving in real life them be something else, police and doctors are similar, police station and hospitals are similar, both make you powerless , helpless and they take your money at will

Imagine if they had used the steroid cream on their kid, the same hospital would change it for them and deny anything if complication arises, and charge them afresh for new rounds of treatment

Lol, you don forget say na naija you dey abi.

Just rant and demand and apology from them.

Also when you go there to rant, get an audio or video recording of the happenings discretely, it may help if you feel like escalating to prevent others.

By the way, use Tribotan for Baby instead.

Sue them if you can!

These days, all these so-called health workers behave as if all humans are at their mercy hence, their wayward and unfriendly attitude towards patients.

Again, I say sue them if you can so others will learn!!

There's no excuse here.
It's not just a cream. It's wrongful medication.

And they should be held accountable for their negligent action to prevent future deadly errors.

Suing them will save countless lives.
No suing them will just give you money not save countless lives because you sue does not mean they can't make mistakes again

The 1st thing to do ...clarify with the doctor if this is the appropriate medication

There's something called off-license use

So clarify 1st. And or secure a 2nd or 3rd opinion

Legal actions takes awhile and doesn't sort the immediate concerns.

Good luck

Since it is a private hospital, I doubt if the person who gave you the cream is a pharmacist.

OP, What is the name of the cream na?

This your story is incomplete. State the name of the cream.

There's what they call off-label use and its usually done based on consideration of risk Vs benefit.

Doctors can prescribe a drug will low risk but high benefit for a patient based on the patient's peculiar condition.

Besides, topical agents like creams are less likely to cause damages than the ones you swallow.

I am not defending them
but you see this matter, they will use technicalities to defeat your argument.

Reach out to them first and hear what they have to say but the case is watery if what you stated is all there is to it.

If you sue them you will waste your money and Time. No good justice system regarding this in Nigeria. Thank God you can read and understand the instructions on the leaflet so no damage for now. I guess you are a first time parent I can feel your pains.
