Hello guys and gurus in the house.
Please , can one reinvest on'es dividends directly without receiving it first .
If it is possible ,how does one go about it

Currently possible with Nigeria brewery and Stanbic IBTC.

You will fill a form and your dividends will be in form of additional shares

Stanbic Ibtc gives you the opportunity to do that when they declare dividends but most companies don't

Nigeria brewery started before Stanbic IBTC.

With this Dividend Reinvestment Programme, the core Investors of Nigeria Brewery and Stanbic IBTC are increasing their holdings in these companies every year

If you invested in Money market fund, yes you can reinvest dividend. As for stock investment, the answer is no. The reason is the dividend is paid by the Registrar and not the broker. You get your dividend paid to your account before sending to your broker for reinvestment.

Thanks for your response

First get a clear objective of your investing, that will be a major determining factor of stocks to look into. Because whether during or post Covid-19 stocks in different sectors will react differently in response to economy realities, policies and even sentiment of investors.

My objective is just to trade for 2 months maximum and cashout without burning my fingers

Does anyone know what's delaying Dangote Sugar's 2019 results? Could it have something to do with the merger arrangement with Savannah Sugar?

Remember that without a vaccine, the global economy will remain in a recession and demand for our crude will remain low. The consequence is that the Naira continues to weaken. In that shaky scenario a reasonable inflow of FPI is highly unlikely.

PharmAlfred:
I see two possibilities here. With the opening of most economies, if a second wave of Covid19 happens again, a sharp fall in the market is expected. People will scamper for safety and exit the market in a very aggressive way than they did in the first round.

If there is no second wave or not so significant rise of Covid19, investors and traders are going to start looking for opportunities in the market. This should cause a sharp rise in prices of equities around the globe.
Nigeria will receive a reasonable inflow of FPI and there after market will trade sideways. After this phase, any breakout will be individual and dependent on event in the sector or earnings posted by the company.

it closed on Friday at N27.2, say Wednesday is the mark down date. The dividend declared will be removed from closing price i.e 27.2 minus 2 = 25.2 . A bonus of 1 for 5 was declared.
Let us say an investor owns 1,000 units.
Pre Mark down 27.2 × 1000 = 27,200

After Mark down
dividend 2 × 1000 = 2000
Bonus = 1/5 × 1000 = 200

Price after Mark down 27.2 -2 =25.2 ×5/6= 21

27.2×1000 = 27200
21×1200 + 2000 =27200

For each stock with assumed closing price of @ 27.2

1 for 5 is 20% mark down = N5.4
Dividend is another N2 mark down

Total Markdown is N7.4

Price after mark down is N27.2 - 7.4 = N19.76.

All mark down actions will be on the closing price on the qualification date.

My thoughts. More opinions please.

You only have to multiply the price with the units to know if this is correct. N19.76 × 1200 plus the dividend 2000 will not give you N27200
25712 is lower compared with N27200

I agree with your calculations, the whole idea of markdowns is to maintain capital preservation. Makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you once again!

Where did your 6 come from on the Price after Mark Down line?

The bonus of 1 new share. The price of the 6 shares must equate to the price of the previous 5 shares.
