Good day all, please I need info for a friend.

A friend wants an investment that can guarantee 10% - 15% per annum.

He is an Igbo businessman and used to invest in treasury bills hence he is looking for another investment opportunity.

He does not want to do fixed deposit due to low rates, No stock market.

*Initial investment N20M

Anyone knows any good investment/assets management company that can deliver. Preferably an investment house may be bank/ insurance subsidiary etc that can pay a return of 10 - 15 % per annum.

Thanks
cc: Oracle, Pa Emma, CoolCash, Loco, etc.

Kindly help.

The price is at a discount to the closing price on marked down dates, the shares will be alloted from the unissued shares which will be listed some weeks after the agm

More like a bonus share for those who opted to be paid in shares and not cash

This is quite better than trying to buy back the shares with one's dividend.

I think every stock in NSE should have this option for long term investors.

Why not buy shares from zenith or GTB and get the dividends annually, Zenith did at least 2naira annually so even buying at 20naira will still be 10% profit annually or is there something am missing as to why the gurus are not suggesting this route?

onegentleguy:

Good one Sir Coolcash !!

However a more simple way to determine the mark down price after a bonus issue would be to use a formula that relates only the stock price and the bonus ratio.
For simplicity, once u know the price of a stock on mark down date and the bonus ratio given, u can use the formula;
Mark down price = Pbb(Br/Br+1)
...where Pbb is the stock price before bonus issuance.
and Br is the bonus ratio given.

To prove this, let's make the following assumptions;
Adjusted/mark down price = Mp,
Price before bonus = Pbb,
Price after bonus = Pab,
Total shares before bonus = TSbb,
Total shares after bonus = TSab,
and Bonus ratio = Br.

Instinctively, Mp = Pbb - Pab ...lets call that equation 1
But to create an equal balance in mkt capitalisation before and after bonus, Pab x TSab must be = Pbb x TSbb
therefore Pab = Pbb x TSbb/TSab ...equa 2
subtituting the value of Pab from equation 2 into equation 1 we'll have; Mp = Pbb - (Pbb x TSbb/TSab)
Which simplifies further to Mp = Pbb(1-TSbb/TSab) ...equa 3.
But TSab = (Br x TSbb) + TSbb
Which breaks down to Br = TSab/TSbb - 1
therefore TSab/TSbb = Br+1
now taking the inverse of both sides of the equation, we'll have;
1/TSab/TSbb = 1/(Br+1)
which equates to TSbb/TSab = 1/(Br+1) (rule of inverse reciprocation) ...equa 4
and subtituting the value of TSbb/TSab from equation 4 into equation 3 we'll have; Mp = Pbb[1-1/(Br+1)]
Which simplifies to Mp = Pbb(Br/Br+1).
Hence Mark down price for any given bonus issuance = Pbb(Br/Br+1).
...where Pbb is the stock price before bonus issuance.
and Br is the bonus ratio given.

Using the example u cited above;
Pbb = N30, Br = 1/5,
hence Mp = Mark down price = 30[1/5÷(1/5+1)]
= 30(1/5÷6/5) = 30(1/5×5/6) = 30×1/6 = 5
Hence Mark down price is N5.

Hope this formula should make it a lot easier for anyone going forward.
Regards !!
TLAX:

For each stock with assumed closing price of @ 27.2

1 for 5 is 20% mark down = N5.4
Dividend is another N2 mark down

Total Markdown is N7.4

Price after mark down is N27.2 - 7.4 = N19.76.

All mark down actions will be on the closing price on the qualification date.

My thoughts. More opinions please.

The mistake u made was adding up the div and bonus before deducting from the equity price.
So u are among those who jump off the window when maths lessons are thought back in school days. wink cheesy grin

I believe the intent is to find out what would be the equity price of JULIUS BERGER on mark down date.
...a brief;
Where a coy declares a bonus plus dividend, simply use this formula to compute the mark down price;
Mark down price(Mp)= Pbm- [Pbm[Br/(Br+1) + Dd]
Where only a bonus was declared, use the formula Mp=Pbm - [Pbm[Br/(Br+1)], and if its only a divided, simply use
Mp=Pbm- Dd.
...Where Pbm is the mark down price, Br is the Bonus ratio while Dd is the Dividend declared.

So in this case, we'll use the 1st formula(Mp= Pbm- [Pbm[Br/(Br+1) + Dd])

With the JB example, the coy closed on Friday @ N27.2, and if we assume that Wednesday is the mark down date, Pbm= 27.2, Br= 1/5 while Dd= 2.
...and using the formula above, Mark down price Mp= 27.2- [27.2[1/5÷(1/5+1)] +2]= 27.2 - [27.2(1/5÷6/5)] + 2]= 27.2 - 27.2[(1/5×5/6) +2]... which simplifies as 27.2 - [(~4.5) +2]= N20.7(rounded off)
So on a N2 div and 1 for 5 bonus issue, mark down price @ N27.2/share of JB will be approx 20.7(and not N21)

For emphasis, just substitute the closing price of the said stock(ie JB) on the qualification date or previous mkt closing price before markdown(Pbm) in the formula above to get the Mark down price !!
For clarity, a N30 closing price on the qualification/pre mark down date should give a N23 price after mark down.
...anyone who sees confusion in the mix can do a check by inputting any figure using the new modified formula.

For details of how the formula was derived, refer to my past post above for clues.

NOTE: EDITED.

The AIICO q1 result is a continuation of aiico's management practice of depressing the financials to keep the stock price low so they could finish whatever they need to do. The current need is for the MD that was appointed lat year and had no shares before to accummulated shares and is currently doing it at relatively low price. Look at that q1 results again. The last line is a finance cost of slightly over =N=1 billion naira. This is a company that is flushed with cash and government securities. The only liability in their book is the IFC loan of $7 million. I will even grant that included in that finance cost is maybe =N=350 million in the depreciation of the naira and you add that to the normal quarterly cost of about =N=50 million related to the loan. That is still =N=400 million, a good 600 million less than what was charged. But you know what, let's even leave it as the first quarter charge, unless naira completely goes to the gutter, it will not recur in subsequent quarters. That gives you an idea of what the year will look like. This is is addition to an unexplained charge of =N=975 million that AIICO continues to charge every quarter to add to the 'other contract liability' line. By the end of the first quarter, about =N=6 billion has been accummulated on that liability line that AIICO has never explained to whom or what product they owe the money to. Every quarter, it's a charge to the P&L with a credit to that liability. I have checked the financials of other insurance companies and they don't have anything similar. Lastly, you have to consider that the Leapfrog investors bought at =N=1.20. they are no fools if you research into them. They must know what they are buying into.

U are really trying with ur dig on AIICO' FPs bro !! wink cheesy grin
On the part in bold, we mentioned it here(with some cursory analysis to back it up back then)
AIICO at the time, was trading @ circa 65k.

Well, the rest is history !!
