The Kogi State Government, Thursday has denied the two index cases reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), insisting the state is still COVID-19 free.

Recall the NCDC on its website alleged that, two index cases were recorded in Kogi as at Wednesday, May 27 2020, making the total cases in the country at 8733.

In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu, described the claim by NCDC as fallacy.

The statement reads in part;

"Kogi State till this very moment is Covid-19 free. We have developed full testing capacity and have conducted hundreds of tests so far which have returned negative.

"We have also continued to insist that we will not be a party to any fictitious Covid-19 claims which is why we do not recognise any Covid-19 test conducted by any Kogite outside the boundaries of the State except those initiated by us. Any attempt to force us to announce a case of Covid-19 will be vehemently rejected.

"We continue to enjoin our people to take all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic into the State and give no listening ears to rumour peddlers and mischief makers.

"We are more than prepared to secure the life of our people and have no interest in playing politics with their Health concerns."

I think the federal government is trying to play politics on the health of the people. I am suspecting foul play, where those NCDC staffs will be giving some patients mercy injection so as to have some amount of death in kogi state. I think the federal government should leave kogi state alone regarding this covid 19

Guy man know what he is saying, covid 19 is interpreted in various ways by various govs.

On the fg scale they need it to keep embezzling funds.

State like Edo and Ondo need it to force the apc into indirect primaries.

Barren States in core north see it from the share the loot angle.

Kogi have always never accepted anything negative exists in it's state (to hype it's governor)

Eastern states are minding their bussiness because they wouldn't even get anything in the first place from fg due to the bias.

Bayelsa, Calabar, akwa ibom, rivers are rich and unperturbed by covid-19 money.

Delta is just busy body over nothing

West neither here or there

Some weeks ago, I would have attacked this man for this "outrageous" statement. But today I'm like what the heck.. undecided
Some governors are flexing muscle, shutting borders and markets , destroying hotels and arresting business men in the name of pro activeness against covid-19, but what is the difference between those "pro-active" states and kogi state?
People aren't dropping and dying in the active states, no one is dropping and dying in kogi state.
We know that if NCDC were to conduct testing in kogi, positive cases would definitely be picked up,but even the states that are claiming active, most of them have tested below 500 people; testing 500 people is no different from testing 0 persons in states that have populations running into millions. So no state in Nigeria can even be described as "actively" testing anyone.
Yahya Bello's stand on covid-19 may well have been inspired by his unserious attitude towards governance, but so far he seems to be the only one making sense.
Nigeria's reaction to this virus has been completely unnecessary.
Shutting down the country for covid-19, at the detriment of the economy, was absolutely unnecessary.
