The Solution to this problem is very simple.
Government should establish Almajiri schools on ground not on paper that over 100 were created but in reality, only about 5 were built e.g. Azare in Bauchi, Katsina and 3 other states.

Its going to be an investment, job opportunity, source of foreign exchange, food security, wrong indoctrination will be avoided ( bokoharam), etc.

I sent these suggestions to some governors but they are not visionary leaders.

- Get a vast expanse of land.
- Conduct soil analysis to know which crop best suits the soil there.
- Build Almajiri schools with Western education sections for the poor.
- Now the children will be entitled to free education (both western and Islamic).
- The children will farm at a particular period, go for western classes, rest, farm, rest, Islamic classes etc.
- Get Govt Agriculture extension workers to keep such schools abreast will new findings, modern techniques, remedies, pest & disease control measures and at the same time supervise the schools.
- The harvest; some will be stored for feeding for the year, some for government to help export, govt will likewise tax such schools so no begger on the streets.
- Post bills containing designated bank accounts in banks or public places to those intending to support the Almajiri with any amount.
- enact law to proscribe begging and penalty for anyone giving alms on the streets.
- On graduation, an individual is already trained & conversant with farming as such can venture into it and not be a liability or searching for job.
- There should be stipends saved for the boys and should be given to them on graduation.
- The kids will not send anything home to their parents since it is the responsibility of the parents to take care of them and not the other way round.
- likewise beggers can have a home as the Almajiris for skill acquisitions and aided by the wealthy through designated banks.

WHEN IT'S TIME TO VOTE, THE ELIGIBLE ONES WILL MOVE TO POLLING UNITS TO EXERCISE THEIR FRANCHISE AND BACK TO THEIR SCHOOL.

You mean you sent all of these to a northern governor? Sorry to speak in this tone but almajiri system is a mechanism for electoral malpractices and population sensors hike.

If a properly managed system was to be in place, the world would know their exact number and age, and with that, they can be easily monitored. But that's not what they want. It won't favour their political agenda.

Their ruling class are perfectly okay with the status quo and they're ready to defend it any day any time

Thank God some of these irrelevant ancient slavery walls are collapsing. I pray God makes this a reality in Nigeria because it's the string the Northern elites pull to manipulate the masses up North. May God bless Nigeria.

That's a good development.......I don't know why anybody even thought of starting up almajiri. Almajiri has no importance. I'm a Muslim and I studied the Quran perfectly fine without going through almajiri system.
The system used to be a good one. Not until both the parents and the Almajiri teachers became lazy and selfish by not providing them with the necessary things they need such as food and other sanitary materials. In olden days, Almajiris were sent to their Mallams with food stuffs, provisions and pocket money just like boarding school. The only thing Almajiri does was reading and learning Qur'an. They were respected by the society then. I think if the parents should be made to do the needful then Almajiri system would be good again.

In 2014, President Jonathan said Nigerian will praise me after I leave office.

You will always be praise for generation to come when we face crisis/challenge in this country.

Covid-19: We praised you on how you were able to manage and control Ebola.

Almajaris: You deserve our praises for your vision of a better future for the almajaris.

While in office the Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan said there were 10million of almajaris children roaming the streets of mostly Northern cities. How can a society develop without guaranteeing right to education to all its children?

Between December 2010 and May 2015, the Goodluck Jonathan administration embarked on the Almajiri Education Programme which saw to the construction and equipment of 157 Tsangaya (Almajiri) Model Schools across Nigeria.

Visitor to some of the sites of the schools in North Western Nigeria today reported the deterioration of facilities and abandonment of the programme.

March 2020, the Senate is seeking the revival of Almajiri schools built by former President Goodluck Jonathan, just as it said there is need to integrate Almajiri education into modern educational system in the country.

In 2016, Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has criticised the Almajiri school policy by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said the state government plans to integrate the almajiris into normal schools system to avoid stigmatisation of Almajiri school graduates later in future.

Governor Dr. Ganduja what happened to you promise/plan since 2016? Atleast, you would have done something about the almajilari school system since 2016 or is this another audio statement?

Let's leave party politics and always show gratitude/appreciation to others after election for their vision and development.

Here is what gratitude means, look at the two picture. Political party A provided food for Political part B.

The eligible ones are entitled to vote just as other Nigerians.

Card reader should be sufficient to prevent electoral malpractices.

Don't we have more pressing needs than this northern shenanigans..?

Apparently not. Didn't you see the Eid parade of million dollar cars and million naira agbada? Everything is covered with the religious cloak, but deep down it's an economic dominance issue. They are cashing out big time. No money to build roads (Abuja roads are on standby since 2015) but the cash flow towards the oligarchs has been unhindered. If need be, accountant general office can catch fire, or school feeding programs can operate during lockdown. But money no dey. So, struggling banks donate billions to government and send staffers home.

May you live long and prosper tremendously ,we need more of your type in the corridors of power but alas
The dullard governors upnorth will never implement these even if presented to them because of election rigging and elite -talakawa dichotomy

Good one there.

Thank you Ganduje for taking the bull by the horns.

Innocent children have suffered enough. Let them learn the tenets of the Prophet with some degree of care and comfort.

Northern Politicians are not sincere and I fear cause a new set of terrorists may start operating
*If Ganduje is sincere what he should do first is to tell the Imams, hakimis,Emirs,Councillors,LGA chairmen,to start enlightening their people no to breed kids that they can't train
*primary and secondary schools should be free, standard and compulsory to every child
*The ones that are Almajiris that don't know their state of origin, should be rounded up,profiled and enrolled into boarding schools
*They should make it a law
