THE RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT PROVIDES LUXURY BUSES FOR PUBLIC USE FREE OF CHARGE.

As part of efforts put in place by the Rivers State Government to mitigate the further spread of the Covid-19 virus in the state, armed with the knowledge that people still see the need to move from one place to another amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, Governor Wike has approved the release of 28 luxury buses to the State's public transport system.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Transport, Sir Sam Soni Ejekwu, made this information known shortly after the State Executive council meeting yesterday, wherein he stated that the State Executive Council has approved a Free Bus Scheme with a fleet of 28 Luxury Buses to convey commuters free of charge during this COVID-19 period.

The Transport boss said the Scheme which would start from Monday, June 1,2020 is part of measures introduced by government to ameliorate the sufferings faced by those living and doing business in the state.

Sir Ejekwu announced that the Free Buses would convey commuters in Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt, Eleme and Oyigbo Local Government Areas and also stated that wearing of facemasks would be a compulsory requirement for any commuter who would want to enjoy the free service.

These are not newly acquired Buses... They were purchased by Amaechi some were used for as free school bus. Parcked close to Government house gate after SPAR. Nice gesture by the Government but which route will be buses plying? Will the buses available in all the 23 LGAs or just Obio-Akpor and Phalga as usual?.

These buses have been in the front car park of the rivers state government house as far back as 2012. Wike has done well to put them to good use.

If it is not Innoson then I will be so disappointed in Nwike.

Tell Wike to make the amount donated by private bodies for Covid-19 response public. Then channel most of those funds into increasing the testing capability of the State by a high rate. We need aggressive testing in Rivers State.


No State is fighting against Covid-19 spread without aggressive testing.
