Osimhen transfer update:

According to Manu Lonjon, a French based Ligue 1 journo:

Victor Osimhen ( LOSC) a bien refusé Naples.
Le Napoli vient de se positionner officiellement auprès de Bruges pour Emmanuel Dennis !

I don't know what job you do man, but people make deductions, which based on a premise, and my premise was pretty solid. And you are kinda funny you know, what does a deduction mean? Isn't it making inferences? What I did was an extrapolation, and you can't do better than it. He did good with a relatively less talented bunch, it's only reasonable to assume he would do better with a better team. if you think this is not, perhaps you come from a different planet. Perhaps you think we cannot base our opinions on the possibility of events that may or will never happen on the information we already know. Did you even think about this before typing? grin. I honestly can't believe anyone would say this. grin. Again let me do this as though I am explaining to a 5-year-old. If you are given 2 grains of maize and you get a yield of 1000 husks of maize in one year. If i give you 4 grains of maize, it is reasonable to expect production of around 2000 husks. It's reasonable, man, just reasonable. grin.
I'm not faulting your analogies. They become fallacy when presented as conclusive prove, just as you are doing right now.

While it is safe to assume that 4 grains will yield 2000 husks, there is no certainty it will.
Now, if two grains makes a 1000 husks in a year, that doesn't follow that four grains will make 2000 husks as they are lot of factors which may be detrimental or beneficial, resulting in either a lower yield or higher yield.

I'm so emotional right now. A Nigerian rejecting a club who in turn goes for another Nigerian. I hope and pray for more of this.

It turns out that in our history of hiring foreign coaches only one foreign coach did better than Keshi, Westerhof with the additional Olympic gold, and Westerhof had the golden generation of players. In all honesty, nothing is better than putting your own in charge, if they have the training. So put a structure in place to enable them to get the training.

Nope, Keshi and Westerhoff are on par as far as achievement with the NT is concerned. Bonfrere Jo won us the Olympic gold medal.

Wow! Osimhen rejecting Napoli? I'm happy for the young man, I was almost giving up on him while he was having troubles at Wolfsburg. He's come a long way in such a short while.

I would like Dennis to move, he has overstayed at Belgium.

Lol... Please use a handkerchief aiit. Good times indeed.

Well, I believe Osimhen staying back one more season in France with Lille might be the best decision at this point in the light of the unfinished business with Lille and the way this transfer market dey go thanks to Mr.Coro. He already said he does not fancy Italy much b'cos of the racism there. Anyway, I have not doubt that he will make a move to a much bigger side than Napoli after another stormingly dominant season in Ligue 1. This time in the summer of 2021, the likes of Napoli won't be lining up as leads where the likes of Liverpool, and other bigger guns will be lining up.

But again, it's a long summer. With links to Liverpool , Tottenham and Chelsea still going strong, the pendulum may shift again. Lol

As for the Dennis links, time will tell. Napoli really are bent on getting one to replace a soon departing Milik.

As a fact checker, please remove Peter Rufai (Dodo Mayana) from that list. Peter Rufai was produced by Stationary stores before he moved to Femo Scorpions, and so on.
Back to the discourse, so many great teams have disappeared from Nigeria. Is it Leventis United, Abiola babes, Ranchers Bees, julius Berger, Stores, the all conquering Amodu Shuaibu's BCC Lions of Gboko and so on.

Peter Rufai was with Sharks as a small boy in the beginning of his professional career. That is why I put came through the Sharks system.

Peter Rufai has revealed how as a promising midfielder he became a goalkeeper by chance.

“I was midfielder in those days, ” ‘Dodo Mayana’ opened up.

“I was in Sharks then. I was also schooling at Government Vocational Technical School (GVTS).

“There was a match and we conceded three goals, later 3-1, 3-2 and then 3-3.

“Suddenly, we conceded again and we leveled up at 4-4 and before long we went behind again and all the players, including myself chided our goalkeeper to buckle up.

“He became angry, pulled off his jersey and threw it away, that he wasn’t going to keep again.

“I caught the jersey, put it on and went between the sticks. The game ended 5-5 and that was the beginning of my journey into goalkeeping”.

He further revealed how he joined the famous Stationery Stores of Lagos from where he moved abroad and went on to play for the Super Eagles.

“I entered night bus from Port Harcourt with my ‘Christmas’ clothes and shoes,” recalled the 55-year-old Rufai.

“When I was about to be introduced, the manager asked me to remove my shoes and put on my boots and I said I don’t have boots, but I would play with the shoes.

“As fate would have it, I was allowed to do so and I was later selected ahead of more than 30 goalkeepers who came.

Analysis: 5 Things Gernot Rohr Brought Into The Super Eagles, Number 5 Is Why Nigerians Love Him?
opera.com May 26, 2020 4:21 AM

The appointment of our Franco-German coach is something of a mixed understanding amongst football lovers in Nigeria.

He came like a fresh breath of air diffusing and slowly removing the offensive and decaying foul environment that had festered on in the Super Eagles for a long period of time. Gernot Rohr was a man on a mission when he took over the hot seat in the year 2016.

I call the position of the Super Eagles coach, a hot seat because every single football fans in Nigeria know that it is a position that can make or mar the coaching career of whoever is occupying it.

Thankfully Gernot Rohr gave his all and brought five noticeable things into the Super Eagles that has ensured his survival as Coach of one of the biggest team in Africa.

1.More On Merit And No More Excess Favouritism

Although over the years, Gernot Rohr has had his own favoured and constant regular members of the Super Eagles first team, but it has not taken away the fact that to enter the Super Eagles, it is all about merit!

Gone were the days when some players felt they own the national team whether they are doing well in their respective clubs or not.

Gernot Rohr came into the Super Eagles to change all that- if you are Under-performing in form especially at club level, chances are high you lose your place in the Super Eagles. Isn't this true?

2.All Round Consistent Football Pattern

Remember the days when the Super Eagles do not have a distinct and direct football pattern or play? We had to rely on many of the juggernauts or succinctly, superstars who will bail us out.

But Gernot Rohr changed all that by bringing into the team a regular football pattern of ferocious attack and disciplined defense mixed with quality football passing and movement.

Under Gernot Rohr, we played football more on the ground than blowing it into the air hoping for the best.

3.Seamless And Easy Transition

Gernot Rohr brought a seamless approach of transitioning from old to new. He showed Nigerians how to replace without displacing quality. I am talking about how Gernot Rohr facilitated the easy change of former players with quality ones.

From when Enyeama had an issue with the National team setup which brought fears to the mind of Nigerians on who will replace the experienced Goalkeeper- Gernot Rohr intelligently and slowly experimented with 4 Goalkeepers till he arrived at two obvious quality choices we have right now based on form in the mould of Uzoho and Maduka. True or not?

Look at our incredible vibrant midfield with the array of quality brimming all over the place, not to talk of our defence and attacking line.

4.Competition Everywhere In The Team

The Hallmark of any great team is the presence of quality competition in the respective positions. Save for one or two players in the Super Eagles, there is a very strong competition for places in the national team setup.

Everything is down to Gernot Rohr relentless effort to continuing searching and inviting the best of the best Nigerian footballers, mostly from overseas(Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga) which has drawn the ire of certain segments of Nigerian football fans.

But let us be honest, our local league is actually not reliable at the moment to produce the kind of quality players gracing the Super Eagles on a regular basis.

Do not get me wrong, I am an advocate of the Nigeria Professional League but let be honest with ourselves, most of the discovered foreign based Nigerian players are premium quality! Is this not the fact?

That is why we can bank on Joe Aribo of Rangers Football Club if Etebo is not performing or a Ramon Azeez. Imagine the massive competition in our attacking line- From Iwobi to Chukwueze, Desser, Osimhen, Iheanacho, Emmanuel and hopefully Bukayo Saka. And the Defence?- That one is full of serious competition giving Rohr good headaches in terms of selection.

That was the content Nigerians signed for, putting every players on his toes to appreciate the privileged opportunity of playing in the Super Eagles.

5.Building An Exciting Project For The Future

Gernot Rohr at the moment is well on course to creating and building one of the most exciting team in the annals of Nigerian football.

He definitely came with that template as we are gradually taking our rightful spot in African football as one of the most fearsome teams.

He has brought back that fear and respect for the Super Eagles. Teams now know our fearful team can tear them apart. Gernot Rohr project has made Nigerians to fall in love with the Super Eagles once again- 90% of Nigerians now look forward to when the Super Eagles will play.

Maybe that is why Nigerians love him and do not want him to leave yet?. His exciting blend of quality youth and experience in the Super Eagles can win us the Nations Cup and a respectable outing at the Qatar World Cup!

Is Gernot Rohr one of our best coach ever? I do not know, but certainly he is someone who has really done well for the Super Eagles. And renewing his contract is an imperative thing that NFF must do as quickly as possible.

The Pioneering Tale of Elkanah Onyeali

by Ryan Ferguson October 13, 2016

One of the most important men ever to wear a Tranmere shirt is also one of the most overlooked. A student who wanted to play football in his spare time, Elkanah Onyeali spent just a few months on the books at Prenton Park, but his trailblazing efforts as Rovers’ first foreign-born player deserve greater exposure, as does the progressive attitude of our club in this regard.

By signing Onyeali, Tranmere became the first major club on Merseyside to hire a black player, and one of the first in England. That’s a very important distinction, and this is a very important story that has rarely been explored.

Who was Elkanah Onyeali? Introducing a legend of Nigerian football

According to Tranmere Rovers, The Complete Record, Onyeali was born in present day Imo State, Nigeria, on 7th June 1939. It’s a place rich in natural resources, such as oil and zinc, wedged between the Rivers Niger and Imo in the country’s southern tip. Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho was born there many decades after Onyeali became its prodigal footballing son.

Young Elkanah attended Holy Ghost College in Owerri, the state capital, where his talent for the game first became apparent. He was later signed by the Port Harcourt Red Devils, a local team that rose to fame across the nation. His reputation was enhanced by many dazzling performances, including in the 1958 domestic cup final, where Onyeali produced a sensational display as his team emerged victorious.

A place in the national team followed shortly thereafter and Onyeali began to thrill crowds at King George V Stadium in Lagos. He even set a record by scoring four goals in one international game, a feat that has only been matched once by another Nigerian.

Why Elkanah Onyeali came to Birkenhead, and why he was rejected by Liverpool and Everton

The country was then under British rule and it wasn’t uncommon for young Nigerians to study in London and beyond. Onyeali was a dedicated student, and a desire for excellent qualifications brought him to Wirral in the summer of 1960. Elkanah studied electrical engineering at Birkenhead Technical College and succeeding in that endeavour was very important to him.

Still, he yearned to play football. Onyeali wanted a familiar pastime in an unfamiliar place; a taste of home, if you will, to smooth the cultural transition. After settling in Birkenhead, he wrote letters to Liverpool and Everton, famous clubs across the Mersey, asking for a trial. Neither club was interested. It’s doubtful he knew about Tranmere Rovers, the hometown team, but they soon came forward with an invitation that couldn’t be refused.

Quite how Peter Farrell heard about Elkanah Onyeali is lost to the passage of time. However it transpired, Rovers’ player-manager was keen to see what the lad could do, and Onyeali subsequently played in three reserve matches for Tranmere. The skilful forward impressed enough in his Cheshire League audition to earn a first team contract for the season ahead. Onyeali could only play part-time due to his studies, but his talent was undeniable. He would be Tranmere’s wildcard in Division Three.

How Tranmere Rovers became the first Merseyside club to sign a black professional footballer

This was a time of great progress and innovation for Rovers. Prenton Park hosted its first floodlit game in 1958. That same season, a club badge appeared for the first time, strictly on training tracksuits. A year later, Viktoria Berlin played a friendly in Birkenhead, becoming the first European domestic team to do so. Tranmere were broadening their horizons, unhindered by the narrow-minded myopia that pervaded society.

A man who appeared in more than 400 games for Everton, Farrell got Tranmere playing some swashbuckling football and attendances soared to 11,815 on average, a club record. In every department, Rovers sought any edge possible in attracting new fans and raising their profile. Elkanah Onyeali certainly fit the bill, and he made an instant impact.

Bournemouth were the visitors for Onyeali’s first game on 3rd September 1960. A crowd of 8,029 flocked to Prenton Park. This was still a time of relative racial disharmony in Britain, with groups such as the Union Movement and White Defence League spreading hate. It was important to send a message that people of all creeds and backgrounds were welcome at Prenton Park, and all involved should be proud of what they achieved, from Onyeali himself to the executives and fans who made him feel so comfortable.

Elkanah electrified the ground with searing pace and lethal shooting ability. Back home, he was known as ‘Mercedes’ for his inimitable speed. On his Rovers debut, Onyeali scored twice in a thrilling 4-3 victory that caused great excitement among townsfolk and newspaper cartoonists. Elkanah became an instant favourite with Rovers fans, who affectionately called him ‘Al’ for the sake of simplicity.

On that day against Bournemouth, Onyeali achieved something magical, something that deserves eternal appreciation. He became the first black player in Tranmere history. He also became the first non-British or Irish player to appear for Rovers. Records show that he was also just the second Nigerian to play professional football in Britain, and he was among the very first waves of African footballers on these shores.

Elkanah Onyeali and the history of black footballers in England

That pioneering spirit is simply brilliant, and it opened the door of opportunity to future generations, both at Tranmere and beyond, paving the way for fine players like Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor and Jay-Jay Okocha to ply their trade in England.

It’s stupid to play politics or score points with such issues, but some perspective is needed to articulate the gravity of Onyeali’s achievements. Everton didn’t have a black player until Cliff Marshall in 1975. Liverpool didn’t have a black player until Howard Gayle in 1977. As recently as 1988, a banana was thrown at John Barnes in a Merseyside derby, while Liverpool’s Luis Suarez was banned for eight matches in 2011 for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

Tranmere was the first significant club on Merseyside to take the admirable step of tackling discrimination, and it did so more than a decade before either of its more storied rivals. These are the things people often overlook about Rovers, a proud club of resounding dignity.

The trailblazing legacy of Elkanah Onyeali at Tranmere Rovers

In total, the Nigerian made 16 appearances for Tranmere, scoring 9 goals in the process. Onyeali scored the winner against Southend in his second game before also notching against Shrewsbury, Walsall, Barnsley, Newport, Port Vale and QPR. He was often the lone attraction in a dismal Tranmere team that was relegated back into the fourth tier.

Rovers conceded 115 goals that season, an unwanted club record. The aforementioned game against QPR ended in a 9-2 defeat, the heaviest ever inflicted on Tranmere in a Football League contest. Optimism slowly trickled away.

Farrell struggled to manage Onyeali, who always put studies before sport. “My father at home in Nigeria would be very angry with me if he found out I was playing football rather than studying,” he once explained to the local press after missing a midweek game.

Indeed, Elkanah was absent for several games that weren’t played on the weekend, and that presented a headache for the manager. Onyeali also prioritised international football, and legend has it that he even flew back to Nigeria for a game after telling Tranmere he was tucked up at home with flu!

In any case, the tough pitches of wintertime Britain didn’t accentuate the skills of Onyeali, who preferred a slick-passing, counter-attacking style of play. When Farrell left the club in December 1960, his Nigerian starlet fell out of favour. Walter Galbraith, the new boss, banished Onyeali to the reserves, and his final first team appearance came against Notts County just a few months after Nigeria gained independence from Britain. Elkanah was then released at season’s end.

Appreciating the globetrotting brilliance of Elkanah Onyeali

A stint with Holyhead Town followed, and while he was there, the national team flew Onyeali into Lagos especially for an important African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana. It ended goalless but provided another proud moment for a man who scored 11 goals in 11 games for his country.

Onyeali played in cities such as Accra, Porto-Novo and Cairo, no doubt telling people about Tranmere and Birkenhead along the way. It’s difficult to imagine a more well-travelled member of our family.

Elkanah studied at the University of Liverpool after leaving Holyhead. He played for Prescot Cables during the 1961-62 season before sliding off the radar. By all accounts, Onyeali ceased playing football to pursue further education and opportunities in the United States.

He returned to Nigeria from Chicago in 1980, receiving a hero’s welcome according to some accounts. Nevertheless, Elkanah enjoyed a quiet village life from thereon, lavishing in a peaceful and spiritual existence. He eventually died in Mbieri, Nigeria on 11th August 2008, aged 69.

Shortly after his passing, the Nigerian FA contacted Tranmere to say how proud Onyeali had been of his time in Birkenhead. However, the pleasure was most certainly ours, for without him, an uplifting chapter in Rovers history may never have come to pass.

I am sorry can you refer me to the post in which I indicated that it's a fact ? when I kept using words, like could, e.t.c. You seem to be lost now? or you just want to argue? The exchange has gone stale anyway.
it can be deducted from your arguments.

That is why the man has to be satisfied with as an U19 coach.

Never ever satisfied under any circumstances when people you are way more qualified than on all fronts are made to boss you and supercede you.

No rather you TOLERATE but under no circumstances do you ACCEPT your institutional denigration, demotion and exclusion.

Because of the colour of your skin.

Sharks was a big club that produced many international players like Peter Rufai, David Ngodigha and Amiesimaka... Richard Owubokiri.

Sharks produced Chief Adokiye Amiesemake, Peter Rufai, Richard Owubokiri and Finidi George to the national team “the green Eagles and later Super Eagles and many more, today, the story is different.

Where did you study man? Can you not see my choice of words? "possibility", "reasonably expected" e.t.c. This is the last one on the subject matter please, you don't get it.
5inchdick:

I'm not faulting your analogies. They become fallacy when presented as conclusive prove, just as you are doing right now.

While it is safe to assume that 4 grains will yield 2000 husks, there is no certainty it will.
Now, if two grains makes a 1000 husks in a year, that doesn't follow that four grains will make 2000 husks as they are lot of factors which may be detrimental or beneficial, resulting in either a lower yield or higher yield.
