IGBOSON1: I always use sales taxes to illustrate what efficient taxation should be. If you buy $2 dollars bread in America, you will pay $2.20. The 20 cents ($0.20) is the tax that goes to the government. But because the tax is small enough, people don't wail about it. The problem with Nigerian taxes is that they are designed to be exploitative and punitive the way the British colonizers taught us about taxes. The problem with property tax is the potential for abuse. For instance, you might see a house built by a man who died and left the family house for his jobless sons. Then you tax the house N50K! Ofcourse nobody will pay that tax. But if property taxes are between N500 naira to N1000 naira a month, then folks are likely to comply. Especially if the government begins to build gutters or tar streets via direct labor. People will likely happily pay taxes to support the government. The way they happily pay their community dues because they know it will be used to develop their community. 2 Likes |

There is so much that can be done to resuscitate the south East. We have failed so badly that our region competes with really poor regions of the north. I mean Zamfara generating more revenue than the great Aba and made in Aba within Abia State. All the western states are so far ahead of us except Ekiti. If you guys want to understand why I’m sounding the alarm so much about Aba, look at Enugu for example Enugu leads in IGR because it also has the most basic infrastructure in the south East. If Aba had Enugu’s Road management and waste management it would be the leading place in the south East. It’s why I have little tolerance for the army of propagandists for the criminals holding Abia state hostage. They are damaging Igbo land and driving Igbos into oblivion. They are the most wicked actors in Nigeria’s political space. All so T.A Orji, Ikpeazu and Ikuku can keep Igbo people in abhorrent bondage worse than anything Fulani’s are doing to the southeast. 2 Likes |

pazienza: There is media promotion of Umahi work while no one is interested in promoting Okezie work. The young man is trying. Aba and Umuahia are swallowing his works. Umahi work is concentrated on small Abakiliki town and a less town of Afikpo. Abakiliki is not up to the size of Umuahia. But Okezie is working in a 6lga of Aba, Umuahia, Ohaofia, Abiriba and Arochukwu. When he's working in Obingwa LGA those in Osisioma or Ugwunagbor will not know. Everybody is seeing Aba as the worst city in Nigeria due to media blackmail whereas Aba is one of the best. Travel and see. No commercial city in Nigeria is better than Aba. Aba is far better than most capital cities in southwestern and North central part of Nigeria. Travel to cities like Okene, ife, Abeokuta, Osogbo, Ogbomosho, general area of Ajegunke Lagos, owo, and rest of them and see for yourself. No road, no proper planning, people are building on top of stones and hills with poor architecture. Aba has at least 85% past mark on town planning and good and decent houses. Aba roads are not bad and dirty as being portrayed on social media. And you hardly see ghetto in Aba as seen in most Nigerian city outside southeast. Aba till tomorrow still remain the pride of Igbo land. 2 Likes

This is the type of propaganda that killed Abia. There is nothing to promote about Okezie because he is a failure, that most you Abia refused to face reality doesn't means the rest of Nigeria and igbos in particular doesn't know that there's stagnation in Abia state since 1999, while the rest of the east have moved so much forward in all areas of development and advancement. No doubt Abia is the worst state in Nigeria. Aba is a disgusting sewage pit toilet while Umuahia is a rural area. No amount of propaganda can change any of these. Everyone in Nigeria knows that Abia state is gone. Stop trying to convince any because we all know the truth likewise the rest of Nigeria. [s] B2mario:[/s] |

pazienza: Abia state has the most efficient propaganda machinery. You need to go on Facebook to see how these guys are working. Once you post current pictures of Aba they will start insulting you, claiming it's old, but they will never post their own picture because they all know the truth. |

Arinze96: Bro, the yardsticks you mentioned here is totally irrelevant to me. What's the size of the population of Ebonyi compared to Abia? Though Massob influenced the 2006 census results of Abia state by issuing the boycott policy coupled with political tussle between Orji Uzor kalu and Obasanjoas at then. How many cities are in Ebonyi and what is their sizes compared to the ones in Abia? 3 or 4 new roads dualized in Ebonyi State will be more noticeable compared to Abia state. The picture below was dualized in Obingwa LGA by Okezie while those of us from Osisioma don't even know. What's the total number of dual carriage roads in Ebonyi compared to Aba alone exclusive of Umuahia? How many heavy duty trucks ply the road of Abakiliki compared to Abia? Dave Umahi is trying notwithstanding, but media promotion is equally helping to promote his work. While there's a sort of Abiaphobia where so many people really want to pull Abia and Aba in particular down due to its commercial and local industrial prowess. They don't want to see or hear anything good coming from Aba and southeast in general. The name and stories of Aba local industrial prowess gives them nightmare. I have observed it when I was living in Lagos and even now I'm living in the north. Aba glory is not lost in any matter, the problem of Aba is not the past governors as portrayed here (because even Orji Uzor kalu tried during his regime) but Nigerian factor. Aba and Igbo politicians have been soliciting for the construction of another drainage system in Aba city from the federal government since I was small, long before they used 6billion naira and constructed new one in Ibadan in 2006. Without the new drainage system, roads constructed in Aba will not last because the city is now 5x of it's initial masterplan. This country needs to be restructure. Enugu, Owerri and Portharcourt are facing the same problem. Why did they close the eastern corridors of Nigerian seaports allowing only Lagos to be operating? Why are they playing politics with Enugu international airport? Why is Owerri not given the full status of international airport? 1 Like

I know it gets a lot of bad press but I have personally tried to counter it with various good images just like you are doing now. But one line that I will never cross is to defend Abia state government. No sane person would. I will always defend Aba as a city when people try to demarket it by showing gross images to the world. sage:so I guess that the owners of shell, innergalaxy steel mills, marketsquare, Genesis cinema and a whole lot of others (including the fg) are fools because they have invested massively in Aba since last year and 2020 ?. The other companies like geepee, Pz, Seven-Up, NB, Afribev, Glassforce, Vitafoam and many others are not reasonable for still operating in Aba?. Apart from the ph road axis, I can comfortably say that no section in as is as dilapidated as you seem to think, it isn't propaganda since these year, I know how many pics of road construction in and has graced these thread, but some of you choose to glose over it. To put all these to bed, choose a weekend to come over to aba and check out things for yourself then post pics on these thread. Saying all the spoilt roads in aba metropolitan area can be done in a year is simply a fallacy 3 Likes |

eduj: Dude you don't need to convince me or anybody else of anything. Its something that T.A Orji, his son and Ikpeazu don't seem to understand. Reality is a very stubborn thing that an army of propagandists will eventually bow down to. To continue their criminal enterprise with impunity they have invested in a vast propaganda machine that believe they can alter reality and pretend that Aba and Abia State is better than it is and deceive people. All while Abia sinks below Zamfara, and the worst Northern states in Nigeria. What they don't know is that not only can the criminal enterprise not last forever, it is a completely wasted effort that is destroying the most talented and promising city in the east. Igbo intellectuals and rich industrialists who used to live in Aba now all live in Lagos. Igbo land is desolate. Our language and culture is being lost and our people are dispersed all around the world. All so some criminals can keep enjoying the loot that they did not work for 1 Like |

sage: Aba city is supposed to be the Kano city of Southeast Nigeria. In the pre-independence Nigeria, before multiple states creation and multiple state capitals, Aba and Kano were principal cities in Nigeria. You can compare for yourself if Aba has lived up to it's potential or not. Infact among all the Southern cities, Aba was the one that ended up with the worst outcome. Not just that Port harcourt and Onitsha surpassed and dwarfed it economically, it also fell from the league of the top 10 best places to live in Nigeria. My hope is that the leaders of Abia state and indeed all Abians will realize that they need to rebuild and reposition Aba first and foremost before the state will become a major state again in the federation. All the time and resources pumped into Umuahia while neglecting their comparative advantage in Aba shows the poor strategic mindset of Abia leaders. 1 Like |

The roads Ikpeazu admin’ construct, generally look durable. But a problem i have with their efforts is that there’s zero attempt on aesthetics....making the street or area look appealing to the eye after the roads have been constructed! There’s a ‘local’ mentality that’s rife in governance in Nigeria as a whole, and it smacks of a lack of exposure and class! 2 Likes |

Great kudos to Governor Dave Nweze Umahi and the great leaders of Ebonyi state. Abakaliki is totally poised to become the most modern city in Nigeria in a few years time. Following a similar developmental plan of Abuja, whereby you set out an area and purpose build it into a planned modern city. Not the usual third world chaotic crap of Nigerian cities. This is the boldness to recreate Abuja and i respect them for this! This is exactly the development pattern that i expected for many years of my own state capital ~ Awka. Whereby a large area / virgin land in Agu Awka is surveyed and gradually developed with well paved roads and places for critical development infrastructure including stadium, residential areas, public parks, industrial areas etc are well marked out. Instead of the current method of haphazard third world style development we see today. I am so happy for the great vision and determination of Ebonyi leaders to make Abakaliki only second to Abuja in modernity. All Abakaliki needs now are attracting more industries and building a small airport to easily connect it to major cities of Nigeria by air to facilitate movement of investors and top business executives. I am hoping that the entire South East Govenors stop doing 1 - 2 years developmental plan and do 5 - 10 years developmental plan. In that way, they will look into the future and try to build cities that will stand the test of time. Not always demolishing one old stuff in an already choked up old part of town and try to rebuild in the same old parts of town. Remember Chief Michael Okpara did the same thing in Enugu. Instead of building in already choked up parts of coal camp, he developed brand new areas as Independence Layout, even when he knew he would not readily have the money to actualize it. But once you layout the new area, successive regimes will tow the line and develop it. Same thing as Abuja that we all see today. Let us dream big like the Ebonyi Governors and launch totally modern cities in Igboland that future generations would be proud that we started. Today, we all like Abuja, but Murtala Muhammed and Obasanjo dreamt about a new modern capital for Nigeria and set out to implement it on virgin land. As opposed to the current idea of building in slums and demolishing already built up parts of the old city and calling it "development". 5 Likes |

ChimaAdeoye: I was also watching the video and i also wondered if you have an area like this mapped out in Awka, and they have all these numerous estates planted inside the different sections, o'l boy even Enugu, Victoria Island or Abuja cannot rival the beauty of Awka. Notice that every road already had flowers and trees planted in the median! So, they are truly planning to take the world by storm when this new abakaliki city becomes fully developed! I think solid development or not truly boils down to quality visionary leaders. Else, how can the poorest state end up building the best and most modern state capital in Nigeria? 3 Likes |
