Nigeriabiafra80: You did not even read what I put up...because it did not align with your beleifs at all. You can't choose your facts...and FYI...you are even looking at someone who wishes what I wrote was not true, and who even blames the Southern Cameroons for leaving Nigeria in 1961...if they had not left we won't be in this issue.... As for France...the French supported Biafra to the end. As at 1967, Bakassi was regarded as part of Cameroon, and at 1971, it was. There was no promise by Nigeria to France to get Bakassi...and Bakassi would have been of no benefit to France at all. Bakassi voted in the 1961 referendum to go to Cameroon. Facts is facts. It is sad , but like I said, we probably would have been still controlling Bakasi IF we had gone nowhere near any court. 1 Like 1 Share |

ikaboy: There's no covid in CRS , not until ncdc went there to plant it. Same with kogi, isn't it ironic that ncdc and nma are complaining of lack of resources yet want all 36 states to be covid infected, just follow the money you ll see for yourself. |

bigfish3k: For the record...we went to the International Court in 1994..when Abacha was in power, and even signed an undertaking, along with Cameroon to abide by the ruling. When the ruling came through in 2002, it went in Cameroon's favour. That led to a series of meetings that culminated in the Greentree agreement that led to the handing over of Bakassi to Cameroon in 2006. Abacha fought no war over Bakassi with Cameroon. However, in the run up to the decision to go to the ICJ, there was the threat of conflict, and around the same time, the French started conducting millitary exercises with Cameroon near the peninsulla. Tensions eased when the decision to go to court was taken. ( That's the Bakassi issue for now. Obasanjo's hands were tied by the undertaking that was signed by Abacha. That's why I say that Abacha and Nigeria made a mistake going to the court in the first place.(and even after the ruling , some people were of the opinion that Obasanjo should ignore the ruling since similar rulings involving other countries had been ignroed) |

kikero:Your write up is confusing me I was in owerri then when I read in the papers that OBJ signed an agreement which the Cameroonian counterpart also signed to abide by the judgements of the ICJ. Do you have any post to show me that it was actually Abacha so I can change my mind We are here to learn |

bigfish3k: They had a window or time frame to appeal the judgment, it came and expired under GEJ administration. |
Re: Ayade Commissions Housing Estate For Bakassi IDPs, Decries 18-Year Neglect by Nobody: 5:37pm On May 31, 2020 |
bigfish3k: The agreement you are refering to is the green tree agreement...which came after the ICJ ruling had been given in 2002....thus Obasanjo was basically reaffirming that Nigeria would agree to the ruling. Cameroon and us went to the court in 1994 with the understanding that whatever the ruling, either side would agree to it. The Green tree agreement was merely reaffirming what was agreed upon. (Most media reports from the early 1990's aren't online, so I can't give you any details of the agreement Nigeria and Cameroon made back then to abide by any court rulings) |
