For once Kenya don't have GOLD, PLATINUM, DIAMOND AND COAL. Look Namibia and Botswana have many minerals. Zambia had copper. Even Zimbwabwe has diamond.

Kenya we got nothing from natural resource perspectives. Not even enough arable land

So we have developed by merely bootstrapping the little resources we got.

I bet South Africa has built it's wealth on top of the minning industry.

Then know no Nigerian universities was in that competition all those time you won...there is no way in hell that a Nigerian will compete with a Kenyan in anything a d loose, save for marathon ....nah, Nada...most especially in brainy intellectual stuff
.our IQ is naturally higher than that of a Kenya....we thank nature for that..

Listen to yourself! Imagine sammy in a live competition with me or any Kenyan on this platform. Do you think you stand a chance? Unless its a heckling competition. Actually Zain Africa Challenge was a Kenyan affair. Starting with the first and last editions won by Kenya's Egerton University, to Kenyan universities winning almost every edition with unparalleled ease, except the one rare instance where a Nigerian university reared its ugly head. The highest winning uni also happens to be Kenyan (of course!). That show only cemented what the whole continent has always low key accepted, and the whole world acknowledged, that Kenyans are the smartest most tech savvy people in Africa. We are the undisputed brainiacs!

Freetown — The Zain Africa Challenge, the University battle of brains now at the first semi-final stage, still continues to be shown on TV screens in Sierra Leone. The Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation aired the show on Wednesday between Makerere University of Uganda and African Nazarene University of Kenya in which African Nazarene University emerged as the winners with 750 points, edging past Makerere University who got 730 points.

As a rule of thumb, African Nazarene has qualified for the finals, awaiting the winner of the second semi-final which will be between Egerton University of Kenya and Jomo Kenyatta University also of Kenya, which will be aired on Wednesday 5th June 2010.

The journey of 5,000 questions that started the fourth season of the televised inter-university battle of the brains, Zain Africa Challenge, ended last Sunday with Kenya’s Egerton University being declared winners.

It cannot be said that this team enjoyed top billing for the much of the tournament compared to runners-up, Africa Nazarene University (also from Kenya), or even semi-finalists Makerere University. But Egerton focused on winning the race; never lifting their eyes from the ultimate prize and that made all the difference.

So when a smiling John Sibi-Okumu (the show host) cocked his voice and pronounced the new champions, the winning players became giddy with joy; not only had each bagged the $5,000 (Shs10m) grand prize, plus a $50,000 (Shs100m) grant for their university complete with the silvery trophy, Egerton had also to be envied for winning the championship thrice in four years thereby cementing their standing as Africa’s masters of well-versedness.

John Sibi-Okumu is also a Kenyan. You were mere guests in a Kenyan show grin

Madaraka means authority/ruling power...Kenyans celebrate internal self rule (not independence) on this day. It preceded independence 6 months later. cool

Self rule? Kenya worked out in the internal system and that is what you call Madaraka?
You guys declared independence 6 month after you acheived Madaraka?

Not exactly accurate. Kenya attained self-rule in 1963 June 1st - this we call Madaraka. A year and half later - in 1964 Dec - we became a republic (Jamhuru).Kenya in 1963 was still largely under the old British constitution - and Jomo Kenyatta was the prime minister - in 1964 - Kenya became a republic with Jomo Kenyatta as president under new constitution.

Okay seem 1963 - kenya dec - kenya became independence (sovereignty) - and 1964 - joined commonwealth

KDF deployed in the Northern Region of Kenya have taken measures to seal off illegal entry points at the Kenyan-Ethiopia border in Moyale Sub County. Four illegal entry points were identified at Sessi, Kore, foundation, and biashara and sealed off.

It's not an excuse. Of course, Singapore like Egypt has strait of Suez or Panama - grew up as port city - because it's see at little corridor btw South East Asia (Pacific sea) and India ocean.

If you don't pass Singapore - you might have to go round the world. The same way Suez Canal is important. The Panama canal is...and perhaps even the Istanbul canal...these are very crucial bridges in oceans and seas for shipping industry.

Learn about the Singapore Strait. That is their biggest advantage.

The Straits of Malacca and Singapore is one of the most important shipping waterways in the world from both an economic and a strategic perspective. It is the shortest shipping channel between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, linking major economies such as Middle East, China, Japan, South Korea, etc.

Why is kenya still building mud schools?

This is more than having sea access. Singapore has sea bridge that connect Pacific and Indian Oceans. The same way if you want a short distance btw the Indian Ocean and Europe - you pass through man-made Egypt Suez Canal. Or if you want to bridge Pacific and Altantic oceans - you pass Panama canal- also man made canal. But Singapore just sits on a natural canal.

Kenya and Ethiopia got a raw deal - but we have tried the best we could.

Why do we build mud-schools? Kenya schools are built by parents - so if parents of a slum - can afford cartoons and mud - they will do that.

You build a school - gov supplies teachers. Now gov through an MP fund is trying to bridge the gap - but school infrastructure remains the parental responsibility.

See what. I know where Singapore is - Singapore sits on Sea bridge btw Indian and Pacific oceans - Mallaca Strait - and it's grown as a port city - it like stopover for ships coming from China/Japan to Africa/India. It where cargo get exchanged or transhipped.
