ASUU misappropriations have been spotted by the introduction of IPPIS, which is a good idea, because many ghost accounts are traced and blocked, then lecturers wailed. That is, corrupt politicians cannot tame corrupt lecturers.
The only lasting solution is to ensure that lecturers earn more than politicians since its only single payment. Increase their salary please! 3 Likes |

ASUU has held this country to ransom for a long time with the bogus allowance ,they see themselves as superior civil servant ,the IPPIS has come to correct that this is why they keep spewing new allegations everyday a bulk of their salaries are actually what they should pay as taxes but this crooks has not been forthright Now the government has caught up with u do the needful or ur job would be given to another kingi777: The IPPIS doesn't have any package for payment of allowances to lecturers. Therefore, It's only the basic salaries they now earn. So how does federal government expect them to call off the strike and diligently work when they are forcefully enrolled into IPPIS and striping them of some allowances that make their salaries tangible.
BEFORE YOU CRITICISE THE LECTURERS TAKE A LOOK AT THIS;
Take home salary for lecturers after IPPIS deduction without allowances: PhD LII is #130,000 PhD LI is #163,000 plus min. 3 years post PhD Senior Lecturer #235,000 plus min. 6years post PhD Professor #345,000 plus min. 10 years post PhD Senior Professor #423,000.... Minimum of 3years gap with hard work. Many spend as high as 5years before they can move up the ladder of promotions.
REMEMBER From these peanuts of a pay; They teach a crowd for a class They supervise multitudes They attend conferences from their pockets They attend seminars from this peanuts They write and publish articles in reputable journals (enquire the cost of publishing).....etc They undergo rigorous stress to carry out research. They spend minimum of 4 years in BSc They spend minimum of 2 years in MSc They spend minimum of 3 years in PhD (in Nigeria is near impossible they even spend upto 5 years and above).
Consider their rigours, the pain, the emotional trauma, physical drain, brain drain, intellectual drain they go through just to be qualified for their job specification...
I think our Lecturers work like elephants and earn like ants, they deserve a better pay or renumeration.
In terms of welfare: You know that 50% of your lecturers don't have good offices/furnitures. Most lecturers lack good working environment. Most lecturers handle/teach a crowd of students yet they still try to deliver lectures in such environment (instead of the normal 30-50 students class size). Most Lecturers supervise projects at their expense. You want his best yet you deny him the best.
When you compare this salary with those of other Federal Govt agencies it's very very ridiculous. If you compare it with Universities abroad then Nigeria salary scale for lecturers is infinitesimally small.
Before you criticise them; First put yourself in their shoes. Could you have studied to PhD just to earn #130,000? Could you have invested the better part of your life upto Prof just to earn #345,000? Think! They may not have been the best they should yet they are among the best in the world especially if they are giving the right environment to practice.
Before you criticise ASUU/Lecturers think. Except you are happy with the state of the university system.

The problem ASUU is facing is that members haven't been cleared to be entitled to those allowances by the assigned unit which can be sorted out easily. Copied and reviewed Without a side-by-side comparison between the old system and new system, we may never have a full grasp of what the grievances of the lectures are regarding this IPPIS thing. The text you copied and pasted states that lectures will receive no allowances under the IPPIS scheme; why do I find this unbelievable? Even if we assume that is right, a question which really begs for answers is, were lectures getting any allowances in the old system prior to this IPPIS? If they did, were the so called allowances legal and transparent? I hear the IPPIS system will ensure transparency in the university payroll system by blocking illegally deducted and untraceable allowances and double salaries, and will also ensure lectures pay tax (as it should be). Of course knowing how Nigerians love illegal things, many lectures wouldn't be happy with anything that blocks the usual bazaar. By all means, this version of the story sounds more credible, it's left for the lectures to prove otherwise. 2 Likes |

Copied and reviewed The solution is for them to work out what the allowances are for each level/staff and send them to the IPPIS team to include in the package. It is no rocket science if the process is transparent. |

kingi777: The IPPIS doesn't have any package for payment of allowances to lecturers. Therefore, It's only the basic salaries they now earn. So how does federal government expect them to call off the strike and diligently work when they are forcefully enrolled into IPPIS and striping them of some allowances that make their salaries tangible.
BEFORE YOU CRITICISE THE LECTURERS TAKE A LOOK AT THIS;
Take home salary for lecturers after IPPIS deduction without allowances: PhD LII is #130,000 PhD LI is #163,000 plus min.

Copied and reviewed ASUU posters. Let leakages be blocked first. After that we can figure out how to channel the new stream of fund towards the lecturers allowances. For now, if we keep going the way you are rooting for, there will be no money to meet ASUU money demands. |

festacman: "The Minister claimed when the government asked ASUU to come forward with a payment system it (ASUU) claimed was better than IPPIS, the university teachers petered out."
If ASUU as association of intellectuals cannot rally round and develop an alternative payment sofware that captures peculiarities of university system as demanded by Federal Government then should stay on IPPIS until they shake off their intellectual laziness and provide better alternative. Simple!
This is a blatant lie. ASSU was the one that suggested an alternative to IPPIS to the FG. This was rejected and now the table is turned against them. Shame on the FG! 1 Like |

Copied and reviewed I beg to differ to your lengthy piece. If IPPIS doesn't capture the allowances or any details, ASUU should tell the FG, and the software will be worked on to capture those requirements. Attempt to whip up sentiments by telling us what lecturers earn won't work; that should be a separate issue that ASUU should address with the FG, it doesn't justify not enrolling to IPPIS. Your piece did not factor in tax that lecturers have shortchanged the State govt overtime. Will the lecturers accept to pay these money back or the FG will still have to pay on their behalf? In another news, what has been the major impact of these universities in the fight against covid-19? Any notable research?? |

Don't worry your salary is gonna be paid between now and next tomorrow After polytechnic before colleges of education then universities
Bro, some deductions are day light fraud. Like that national housing scheme. I dont work for govt but I have been paying it for years because it is a statutory deduction. Now I wan buy house and I went to them for loan so I can make use of my contributions over the years. Come see stories and conditions. The house sef must be govt scheme and they cannot borrow you more than 15m. I pity this country. There is no value for education. See govt and lecturers negotiating education like guguru and epa. Copied and reviewed Pray tell, how has your above vituperation addressed the real reason why the trust hitherto bestowed on university Bursars and their Vice-Chancellors had to be withdrawn by introducing IPPIS?. By enumerating the time investment needed to achieve qualifications required to participate in tutoring in tertiary institutions, are we then to assume that the exact same does not apply to other sectors, or are these other Nigerians compensated opposite of ASUU members?, or should we assume that ASUU members are now super Nigerians?. Nigeria is a bastion of corruption and its allied practices. IPPIS for all its shortcomings aims to redeem a portion of the corruption that has torn shreds into the payroll system. That the thugs in ASUU challenge government policy and brazenly holds the education system to ransom in the guise of industrial action is, to put it mildly, a shameless affront. At the position they occupy in society, one will assume that ASUU will be lettered in the propper conflict resolution practices of the day. Their concern regarding deductions has absolutely nothing to do with the IPPIS system. They ought to have had that concern addressed with the Salary and wages commission. That is the proper authority for that concern. I fear that you may belong to this legion, hence the need for you to expend an extremely hard resource, time, to defend the people who are killing education in this country, and by consequence, the civilized society itself, for their self benefits. Please address the above asseveration if you will. |
