Nedum Onuoha: I Don't Feel Safe In The US by ogbiwa: 7:13am On Jun 03, 2020
Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha says he does not feel "100% safe" in the USA.

Onuoha plays for Utah-based Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer after spending six years at QPR.

"I am always very wary of how I behave and how it could be viewed by people who have power," Onuoha, 33, told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"For me personally, overall I don't like to say it but I have a fear and distrust towards police."

Widespread protests have taken place across 75 US cities since George Floyd, an unarmed black man, died after being pinned down by a white police officer.

Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who kneeled on Floyd's neck, has been charged with his murder. He and three other police officers have been sacked.

Sports stars have added their voices on social media with a 'blackout' - uploading a black image alongside a message of support.

Onuoha backed the protestors by saying: "It is emotional; it is something that is overdue to be honest. There has been a big wave of energy towards this, there has been a lot of talk about George Floyd - these issues have been around for decades.

"People have been trying to make noise. I have been trying to say things but it gets pushed away for too long. Enough is enough; what gives me strength is that it's not just black people who are protesting now.

"The change will come but within that, there are so many nuanced things within the protest - for example, a lot of black people are scared to do what some of the white people are doing to the police.

"It's crazy to see but it is very necessary. I am not going to say to them that they shouldn't do anything because they haven't been heard for this long so let them be heard now."

'If police read me wrong, they could take my life'
President Donald Trump has threatened to send in the military to quell growing civil unrest in the US, as dozens of people have been injured with authorities using tear gas and force to disperse protests.

Four officers were shot and injured on Monday night during unrest in St Louis, Missouri.

Onuoha added that the gun laws in the USA added to his sense of unease.

He said: "I have loved living in this country but there is [another] side of it.

"In the UK, I am more comfortable because if something happens it probably will not be deadly - but over here because of their rights it is more common that altercations become deadly. I am always very aware of that whenever I go around anywhere.

"I am comfortable but when it comes to any kind of brutality, if it's from the police, if they read me the wrong way then my life could be taken. I feel that every single day. It is not just me but everybody else as well.

"I am not trying to be overly critical to the police, there are plenty of good police officers out there, but sometimes I feel like people put police on a pedestal and make them seem superhuman.

"But the fact is over here they are just people from society with a badge and a gun and a lot more power.

"If you worry about the man next door, why would you not worry about the person patrolling the streets who now has more power, more guns but the same views?

"I never go out and feel 100% safe".

The US is overhyped in all entirety! Especially during this Trump’s tenure. His words are really damaging and this has made the US less appealing!

They don't care about the black guy the police killed they just want trump out.... I pity their little innocent kids that may end up getting the virus

Well the end is near

I keep saying it

All these evil happenings all around the world would only get worse

Because they are the signs of the times we are living in

Its going to end only after God has punished the entire world

After then , Jesus will come back with his hosts

The world government will deceive the entire nations that there's about to be an alien invasion

Hence, the battle of Armageddon

But Jesus will kill them all without hands

Because He is king of Kings and Lord of Lords

Be a real niggarrr

There is no end time anywhere
We should stop thinking this thing are signs of end times
We should stop attributing everything to end times, armageddon, end of the world, annihilation, holocaust, cataclysmic revolution and decimation
A lot of bad shit happened in the past( olden days)
Worse than what we are experiencing now
But no means of dissemination then

But now every little thing can spreads fast. News can spread out so easily

In regards to Police relations, Nigeria is better. Nigerian police mostly wants money from you. If they should shoot and kill anyone, the chances are that they will be arrested and prosecuted right away.
The problem in the US is that the police will kill an unarmed black person and still claim they have done nothing wrong. Not only that, the Police Union will claim the officer didn't do anything wrong even when the whole world can see that the police is in the wrong. The city mayor and the prosecutor will also defend the police officers no matter how bad they behaved.
To make the matter worse, even when the are arrested and charged, the usually ALL WHITE JURY will eventually find them not guilty.

All of you supporting Trump, don't understand the history of Police brutality. It's not about one case, it's about a systematic institutionalized oppressive methodology that has been in place for DECADES. This is just the straw that broke the camel's back .

Trump is just making it worse with his open racist attitudes, unfortunately some Nigerians are more concerned about religion than their own race.

Blacks are naturally aggressive...most blacks just love to resist arrest compared to the whites...in as much as racism should not b tolerated, but the truth is that it is part of the human mental system... the blacks 4kd up by selling themselves to the whites...the are still fucking up with their mentality... they believe all their problems are caused by the whites...they dint like school and they love crime, they feel going to prison is kool, they hv the highest number of strippers and baby mamas, they don't want to work , rely on child support and drugs... typical lazy entitled black mentality ... policemen are always in constant fear while dealing with them...they have so much hatred for whites and also very racist

Nigeria is actually saver despite weak justice institutions and police system. In the US, a mentally sick person can start shooting in the church, parks, schools etc. For blacks, police is another headache. This is a country that always boast of being sane and human right defender.

Nigeria for example, we have Boko haram but 99.9 percent of citizens have nothing to worry about. Then, Fulani herdsmen/bandits, mostly in rural communities in the north.

Sometimes these black American can be so stubborn as well whenever a white cop approaches them. No one seems to be say this. I watched a video clip yesterday where these black Americans are abusing fellow black cops with so much disrespect, So irritating. They are just too stubborn and the white cops sees it as an avenue to unleash their hatred for them. What happened to George was pure hatred from that white cop, even after you have successfully submit the dude to the ground and contained every threat, you still kneeled on his neck until he choked out.
