TheGoodJoe:Sir,Kanu as Super Eagles all time striker? A striker with 5 Afcon and 3 World Cup appearances without a goal can never be eagles all time striker. I think Guardiola have Aguero doing it good for him with great goal ratio. If not Aguero would have been warming the bench for the likes of Gabriel Jesus. 3 Likes |

England did not qualify for the U-17 World Cup in 2013, so, it is not likely we will find players from that crop doing much today. You can barely even find the team list online. However, they were present at the tournament two years later, Trent-Alexander Arnold, Chris Willock and Tom Davies, seen to be the only players from the England 2015 U-17 team that have actual football careers, the others are playing for mediocre teams; I checked, to be sure. Of those three, we all know, only TAA is EXCEPTIONAL. The likes of Tomori and these new age English players we have been bamboozled with so far, were never considered good enough for these U-17 team's. 3 Likes |

Koboko99: When you want to make biased comparisons, you don't consider these factors. When it is time to talk about the progression of black youth players in England, in comparison to some of their white counterparts, or black coaches in the EPL, that is when we will remember the English system is racist and black boys have to work twice as hard, to secure the same spots their white counterparts would. It's all about context. 2 Likes |

andrewbaba44: Kanu was a great player, even though I would not agree to making him the top striker in the "all time best 11". Personally I don't see Kanu as a CF. He was actually not much used as a CF. He was more of a supporting Striker (what we called number 8 those days). Kanu may not have scored many goals for the Super Eagles but his contributions to the overall play of the team was immense. He was involved in build ups to several goals, he gave us several free kicks in dangerous positions and created a few penalties too. In today's football Kanu would have been best played as a "number 10". 2 Likes |

do4luv14:My man you are mixing things up. The context here is on Chidi Nwakili invitation and not about him playing for eagles. Kelechi Nwakili never got a call up from Rohr but Chidiebere Nwakili did,so why saying I fall your hand when I said Rohr goofed on Chidi invitation. I even went extra mile to post Chidi with Mikel pics in camp to tell that I know what am saying Do not forget that any invitation is an opportunity for any player to play for Super Eagles. |

Kog45: Yes, but, the philosophy comes first. Gabriel Jesus is no where a lethal finisher than Aguero. Guardiola still left Aguero on the bench for numerous occasions until Aguero assimilated the philosophy and to me, plays it better than Gabby Jesus (except intensity and defending). So Yekini might have the lethal goals but no way can he bring the philosophy to the table, which is paramount and which Kanu understands and plays it to the end. |

Icon4s: That is the point of modern day strikers. It is not about leading the strike line but bringing them to play. We have less creative attack midfielders because it is now a space controlled by creative strikers. Below is a major requirement of modern day Hitmen. Tell me who you would prefer on the ball in these situations. Kanu or Yekini. Below are Lewandowski and Haaland

TheGoodJoe: Firstly, let's remember the argument is about which of Kanu or Yekini is our all time best striker. We are not talking about whose style of play best suits the modern day game. Good enough both players are no longer playing. And like I will always say, the modern day game has become so dynamic. Averagely a Very good players should be able to play up to 3 positions comfortable to be able to remain relevant to the coaches' tactics and continue to make squad list. There are some games you play that you need your striker to play as an old fashioned number 9. There are certain games you play and you chose to adopt a false 9 option. There are others that you play and your striker does the ball holding and distributing job. Looking at the way Kanu played, if you have him in a today's team, it will be a waste of resources to have him as an Old number 9 kind of Striker. He is more of a holder and distributor which also agrees with your assertion. But again the argument is not about now. It is about who deserves to be our " all time best number 9". That person is Yekini 2 Likes |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by jihday(m): 12:15pm On Jun 03, 2020 |
TheGoodJoe:Nacho can throw passes better than Jesus but we know who Pep picked, Eto is faster and can play on the wings better than Zlatan but we know who Lord Pep chose, Lucas Barrios can play behind the striker and on the wings but I've never seen Lewy play either positions but when push came to shove Klopp wasted no time in dumping Barrios for Lewandowski. See at the end of the day scoring goals is the most important thing for a striker, no sensible coach can put Kanu before Yekini he'll rather shop for a striker who can score goals and still find pocket abi whatever you want him to find 1 Like |

jihday: Gabriel has far more intensity, dropping deep and work rate than Nacho. Heck, Guardiola earlier dropped Aguero for Gabby Jesus. Lewandowski's intellect when he drops deep is out of this World. It is not even debatable. Firmino has not brought loads of goals to Liverpool but his distribution, work rate and technique when he drops deep has kept him a regular in a dominating Liverpool side. If you are going for a modern philosophy approach, no sane coach will put Yekini ahead of Kanu. |
