Zulum on 4th visit to remote Kala-Balge; 10,000 households get food items

... Zulum wants Wulgo community resettled
... Borno Governor meets Soldiers in Rann, Wulgo

Borno Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has led the distribution of food and non food items to 10,000 households living in Rann, headquarters of the Kala-Balge, the remotest local government area of the state.

The latest visit was the fourth by the governor to the local government that shares border with the Cameroon Republic.

Zulum was flown from Maiduguri to Rann, onboard a military chopper, on Sunday May 31, 2020.

The Governor who had made three previous similar trips, the first being in June, 2019, few days after coming into office, when he undertook the need assessment of public facilities and subsequently ordered construction works.

He was later to return in December 2019 to distribute cash to 15,000 widows.

Zulum was soon back to Kala-Balge in February this year to distribute N100 million cash to 10,000 trapped families.

During the latest visit on Sunday, Zulum supervised the distribution of relief items to mostly women and aged men amongst other vulnerable persons in need, with about 300 Nigerians taking refuge in the Republic of Cameroon who returned to Rann benefiting from the gesture.

Each of the beneficiaries received a bag of 50kg Maize grain, two cartons of spaghetti, two bags of 10kg rice and a-3 liters cooking oil, while female beneficiaries got wrappers in addition to the food items.

Residents in Rann have since mid last year been trapped without road access to farmlands due to the flood from a dam, this forced Nigerians in Rann to resort to neighboring Cameroon Republic for livelihoods.

Governor Zulum at a press briefing after the exercise, acknowledged food contributions from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Dangote Foundation.

He said: “I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the President and Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, for all that he has been doing towards repositioning the northeast.

"I also wish to express my appreciation to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Northeast Development Commission, as well as NEMA and Dangote Foundation, all of them have contributed to the success of this excersice."

... Zulum wants Wulgo community resettled

Meanwhile, after his food distribution exercise, Governor Zulum traveled to Wulgo, a border community, to assess the destruction caused by the Boko Haram insurgents.

The assessment of Wulgo, acording to Governor Zulum, was preparatory to resettlement of thousands of IDPs from the community currently staying at formal and informal camps in Gamboru town of Ngala LGA.

The governor said: “The aim of our visit here is to assess the town with a view to resetting back the community. We will have an interface with the community, I think the first thing we will do is to clear the town.”

Zulum then proceeded to Gamboru Ngala where he passed the night, during which he interfaced with the Internally displaced persons from different communities.

... Borno Governor meets Soldiers in Rann, Wulgo

Also during his visit, Governor Zulum while in Rann and Wulgo, paid visits to military formations in the two towns in order to boost their morale.

During the visits, Zulum presented 250 bags of 50 kg rice,10 bags of 50kg sugar, 200 cartons of noodles, 500 cartons of sphagetti, cooking oil and cash to each of the formations.

This is one of the very few elected governor who has a real empathy and heart felt compassion for his people.

He has put aside politics to serve and attempt to make a difference in a very difficult situation.

In addition he is prepared to say the truth without trying to be politically correct.

I don't see anybody on this thread casting aspersions on the junior officers and NCO who put thier lives on the line night and day.

Rather thier is continous commendation for these guys. Who have no VOICE and are called to suffer and die in silence.

However, recently there was perverse condemnation for a soldier who cried out in total frustration. After he lost his colleagues on top of a recovery vehicle in a contested war zone by an IED.

I wonder who is being hypocritical in this context.

And how is your constant criticism helping the soldier? Direct your constant sermons to the appropriate authorities. That soldier's action was as a result of the trauma of warfare. It wasn't professional by any stretch of the imagination and that is why they are not supposed to record footage for social media consumption no matter how much people love it.

Did you go about filming when you were in the paras? (I am giving you the benefit of the doubt that you saw a bit of action) .Would your commanding officer have alliowed you to? The recent documentary about HMS Duncan. When there was the possibility of combat when the ship was directed to the Gulf, where the crew not all required to hand in their mobile phones?

Soldiers get shell shock/PTSD in a lot of conflicts. It isn't necessarily any other persons fault but the plain facts of life being a soldier. All the American and British soldiers suffering at the moment from PTSD due to the conflicts in Iraq & Afghanistan, whose fault? Where they not provided with Gucci kit and vehicles? Didn't they also get blown up? I suppose their commanders were equally all corrupt (depending on whether you are a Democrat or Republican, Tory or Labour, is that not so?)

What is disingenuous here is people pretending they care, when they don't really as there are ulterior motives when you scratch the surface.

The Governor should have spent a night in Rann grin. If the government is giving a medal to soldiers in the Northeast, I will suggest they give two medals to soldiers who served and are serving in Rann. A town that when the raining season commence you will have no vehicular access in and out of Rann for four months. Every civilians and soldiers stockpile their essential commodities during this period.

I remember when one of my military friends had his wedding during the raining season. He had to trek on foot with some soldiers and CJTF as his guards for 15 kilometers to a Cameroon border town called Boddo or Bosso for the Nigerian troops there to convey him to Gamboru. I praised his Gallant colleagues who took such a risk moving on foot in such a terrain to guard their boss and return back on foot.

May God bless our Gallant Soldiers cool

CAS COMMISSIONS ADDITIONAL RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION IN OWERRI, COMMENDS PERSONNEL FOR ADDING VALUE TO SECURITY ARCHITECTURE IN SOUTH EAST

In furtherance of its commitment to ensure accommodation sufficiency for its personnel to enable them perform their statutory role of defending the territorial integrity of the Country effectively and efficiently, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 2 June 2020, commissioned an additional block of 18 x single bedroom accommodation for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) at the 211 Quick Response Group (211 QRG), NAF Base Owerri, Imo State. Speaking during the commissioning, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, represented by the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command (AOC SOC), Air Vice Marshal Charles Ohwo, noted that the newly-built and furnished NCOs’ accommodation was aimed at boosting troops’ performance through the provision of conducive working environment and decent living conditions.

The CAS disclosed that the 211 QRG Owerri as well as the QRGs in Gusau, Zamfara State and Ipetu-Ijesha, Osun State, were established in 2016 under the SOC, following a careful assessment of the internal security challenges facing the Nation at that time, with the objective of adding value to existing architecture to tackle the security threats in the South East, North West and South West Zones of the Country, working in synergy with other security agencies. He noted that the decision was taken based on the conviction that only highly-trained, well-equipped and properly quartered personnel would be effective in dealing with such security threats. He said the fact that the 211 QRG had contributed significantly to dealing with militancy, bunkering, kidnapping and other forms of criminality in Imo State as well as other parts of the South East Geo-political Zone proved that the decision was worthwhile. He therefore commended personnel of the Unit and urged them to continue to work tirelessly, along with other security agencies, to ensure the protection of citizens of the State.

Air Marshal Abubakar added that, to achieve more operational bite, the Unit would be supported whenever the need arises with helicopter gunships and other air assets in order to be effective in ensuring that the people of the Region are safe and secured. He stated that the other ongoing projects that were at various levels of completion would also be commissioned to further ease the accommodation problems in the Unit.

While thanking the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for providing the resources being expended to improve personnel welfare, the CAS enjoined personnel to appreciate the facilities the Service had provided for them by ensuring that they are well maintained and responsibly utilized. He further charged them to remain law abiding citizens and good ambassadors of the NAF by maintaining good relationships with their host communities and other security agencies in the State.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 211 QRG, Group Captain Elisha Bindul, stated that the newly commissioned residential accommodation would ease accommodation deficiency in the Unit as well as further motivate personnel to continue to put in their best to enhance the collective operational capacity for the attainment of the NAF’s objectives. He assured the CAS of the commitment of the personnel of the Unit to continually strive to ensure that the NAF lives up to its constitutional responsibilities.

Also present at the commissioning ceremony were the Director of Works, Headquarters NAF, the Commander 34 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army and the Commandant Nigerian Navy Finance and Logistics College as well as other invited guests.

TERROR WAR: BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS LOSE HIGH RANKING COMMANDERS & EQUIPMENT, SCORES NEUTRALIZED

Following Boko Haram terrorists' failed attack on troops' location at Banki Junction and Response Area Firgi from the 7 Division Strike Group and the subsequent fierce battle with the terrorists on the 26th of May 2020, credible information from reliable sources have comfirmed the death of some high ranking Commanders of the Abubakar Shekau's faction of the BH terrorist' group.

Some of the notorious BHTs Commanders that met their waterloo during the operation include Manzar Halid, Amir Abu Fatima and Nicap among several others. Reliable information further confirmed the extermination of Seventy two members of the sect while many others were injured including some high profile Commanders and fighters like Abu Jamratu AL-Naweer, Kaka Bana and Tareta babakari.

Additionally, a large number of their equipment including many gun trucks, motorcycles and bicycles were equally destroyed by troops in collaboration with the Air Task Force during BHT’s withdrawal in disarray.

Further credible information indicate BHTs are in chaos and currently unable to conduct any serious deliberate offensive action as a result of their recent losses in terms of personnel and equipment.

The blockade of their spy routes, networks, crossing points and logistics supplies had further crippled the terrorists and heavily limited their freedom of action to the advantage of the federal forces.

NAF MAKES HISTORY AS IT RECORDS FIRST ALL-FEMALE CREW ON OPERATIONAL ISR MISSION

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has again made history with the conduct of an operational Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission by an all-female crew. The mission, which was conducted on 28 May 2020 using the NAF Beechcraft KingAir ISR aircraft, had Flying Officers Oluwabunmi Ijelu and Genevieve Nwaogwugwu as Captain and Co-Pilot, respectively, with Sergeant Njoku Patience as the Airborne Tactical Observation System (ATOS) mission operator and Lance Corporal Shawulu Godiya as the on-board technician. It is noteworthy that Flying Officer Ijelu is the first female officer to become a Captain on a NAF aircraft. The aircraft was also marshaled by a female Marshaller, Aircraftwoman David Precious. The mission, which was preceded by the customary pre-flight briefing, originated from the 307 Executive Airlift Group (307 EAG), at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport and covered selected areas of interest in Niger State and its environs, where intelligence that would support NAF air interdiction missions as well as the operations of ground forces was gathered.

The Commander 307 EAG, Air Commodore Francis Edosa, while welcoming the all-female crew from the mission, applauded them for displaying a high level of professionalism. He remarked that the feat was only made possible as a result of the commitment of Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, to providing a level playing field for all personnel, whether male or female, to thrive and realize their dreams and aspirations in service to the Nation. This, he said, had translated into tangible positive results. He therefore thanked the CAS for giving the female personnel the opportunity to prove their worth in hitherto male-dominated specialties in the NAF.

Within the past 4 and half years of the current NAF leadership, there has been a surge in the involvement of female personnel in areas that were previously the preserve of men. Five female pilots have been winged within the period, bringing the total number of female pilots in the NAF to 7. Many other female officers and airwomen are excelling in their various fields of specialization including Regiment and Special Forces, Aircraft/Armament Engineers and Technicians as well as Air Traffic Controllers, amongst others. The NAF’s objective in this regard is to maximize all of the potentials of Nigeria’s vast human resource pool, male and female, to ensure the effective, efficient and timely employment of Air Power in response to Nigeria’s national security imperatives.

For the sake of discussion, let's assume Trump doesn't win the elections in November, will Biden continue the tucano transfer to Nigeria? A lot will happen between now and 2021 and placing all our hopes on the tucanos might be very dangerous.

Ask turkey about their F35 programme with US. Ask Iran about their S300 deal with Russia.
If he refuses to deliver the planes, who will punish him for it?
Even Syria didn't get the S300 they paid for years ago until recently when Russia felt Israel was already crossing lots of boundaries. And those S300 sef haven't been activated.

Yes, we can say America is unreliable

After the many decades America spent on making of the Democratic principle a sacrosanct philosophy through her very inception in the war of independence; war on undemocratic fascist Nazi Germany; war on threatened Vietnamese Democracy; war on threatened Grenada democracy; the creation of NATO to safeguard Western democracy; the funding of all sorts of rebel movement against Democratic threats, including in Afghanistan and the toppling of supposedly undemocratic South American regimes; Cold war against the former Soviet Union and her client nations like Cuba, North Kora and China for democracy sakes-

After the list above, what does America tell Nigeria in Nigeria darkest hours? Well, America condemns Nigerian nascent Democracy under Goodluck Jonathan. America does this by endorsing Idris Derby’s authoritarian Chad and to a lesser extent Paul Biya’s authoritarian Cameroon over Nigeria.

And which abuse again

In a world where the West, led by America, is the author of Right and Wrong, they are able to change the narrative, as they like.

The USA is bigoted, hypocritical, practices double standards and is blatantly racist
. The degree of these inherent traits will depend on who is the President.

That means we need to be strategic in finding a way to play the game with them. However, we have not.

Egypt has the worst human rights record in my estimation in the whole of Africa. They have a despotic leader and very weak civil institutions.

There is very little press freedom and civil liberties are trampled upon regularly in broad daylight. It is not a democracy.

A nation where the legitimate democratically elected government was overthrown and all the party leaders labelled terrorists and in imprisoned under laughable and bogus allegations.

But Egypt are playing a game with Russia and the USA. Not completely aligning themselves to any buy using both of them.

The crisis in the Sinai by well not more than 1000+ disgruntled Islamic fundamentalist elements has never been quashed. Again they have allowed it fester for political reasons it seems to me. Particularly considering the might of Egypt.

Nigeria in thier low self esteem have allowed the US to play football with them. My view our corrupt politicians some with criminal records as well, have looted huge sums of money to the US and have acquired huge assets thier . Have compromised themselves and have been muted and cowed and accept too be treated with denigration.

Our arms procurement approach is underpinned with one preoccupation, the best deal for the individual not best value for the nation.

First of all l have never said l served in the British paras. Indeed l have never mentioned any regiment in that regard.

The British system gives almost clear and open access for the independent media coverage in any of its theatre of operation. Such as in Afghanistan and Iraq.

As a consequence, there is no need for combatants to taking pictures or videos and posting. Nonetheless, the less they still do, it's not neccesarily officially sanctioned and although not advisable it is common.

There has been an intended and or orchestrated restriction on any kind of media reporting in the NE. A near complete media black out unless it is coming from or sanctioned by the NA. Nothing independent.

After 20 years of war in Afghanistan the British army has lost about 500+ combatants. This has been made very public.

Within parliament there are select committees that have oversight function over all the operations of the Armed forces. There is indepth knowledge based scrutiny. That scrutiny includes talking to NCO's officers and top brass in the theatre of operation thier grievances and concerns. Assessment on the efficacy of equipment and best value. What that means is soldiers have a voice.

Combatants can also contact thier MP and have thier grievances heard at the highest level of government in Parliament and even the house of Lords. Soldiers have a very clear and readily accessible avenue for thier voices to be heard.

I mentioned this ages ago how a mother sued the MOD for negligence and won in court when her son was killed. He was in a vehicle that was not fit for purpose. That means combatants can resort to Litigation. You cannot even dream of that in Nigeria.

In Nigeria not only do our combatants have voice NO VOICE, any minor dissent, or expression of disagreement and or grievances is SMASHED to the ground and you could be facing s court martial under spurious charges.

When the those rust bucket T72 were procured at fantastically over inflated prices. Some junior officers complained about the equipment they were given the usual treatment. Our combatants have learned to SUFFER in Silence and unfortunately even DIE in silence.

To date we have no clear official figures of our casualty rates made public. Our National assembly is simply not interested in ensuring there is compliance and or to question the high casualties in the NE.

The over riding THEME in my comments is best value and most effective use of resources for the best impact delivery.

That approach affect and impacts the lives and ensures the greatest safety of our combatants in the NE. If you think that's unpatriotic calling for standard to be increased and better use of resources.

Then we are from two different planets.

That's why l am livid at the monumental waste and incomprehensible £600 million contract package for 12 turboprop aircraft. Add to that we paid for something in 2018 that will not be completed until 2024. We are in a war and we need assets like yesterday, how ridiculous is that.

Meanwhile our guys are sitting on the backs of dumpster trucks, recover vehicles and low loaders in a battle zone.

The constant sycophantic praise singing and the commendation of outright mediocrity is what is doing our honourable combatants a grave disservice here, not the informed constructive criticism by some.

Great efforts have been made over the last few years and are being made to provide both locally produced vehicles and imported ones, unless of course you are blinded by politics or whatever makes you tick.

By the way, as things stand, it is over $300m spent so far on the Super Tucano. Deliveries will begin in 2021 after pilots and maintenance personnel have been trained from this summer. Completion of contract is 2024, which includes the whole package not just the aircraft.

I agreed without reservation and I give you 5 star for this your post. I must say, you really impressed me with your broader knowledge on international affairs.
Not that Nigeria is just looking like zombie. They have been trying to shrugge off the devilish effect of the USA government, but me and you know that is almost impossible. For now, USA indirectly controls the social media in this country, so they control the narrative as well. They have many spies and agents in this part of the world both in form of human rights groups, NGO, top political brats, and others, such that in any act of disobedience from any president, what they need to do is just to press the button.

Yes he can, and as for the payment, they wouldn't even bother with the refunds, you can ask Iran... grin
No he cannot without a compelling reason.
this deal was approved by Congress
also understand the first set of planes will arrive in November
let us at least wait till he WINS the Election
NIGERIA is not Biden's priority right now.
Unlike what happened with PAKISTAN and IRAN
Nigeria is not secretly developing Nuclear Weapons.
Nigeria is not holding Americans hostage .
Two entirely different scenarios
Good luck Jonathan and Obama as the years go by had an actual distaste for one another and Obama was listening fervently to the Left wing of the State Dept
The situation in the US is very different now
NA Troops wield Made in America Sniper Rifles.
All 12 PLANES + equipment + logistics will be delivered
Starting next month NAF Pilots depart for the US.
It helps to focus on the positive sometimes , instead of always on the negative.

Female personnel in the Nigerian Air Force are becoming a force to reckon with.

History was made recently with the conduct of an operational ISR mission by an all-female crew.

There has been a recent surge in the involvement of female personnel in key areas at the NAF.
