Both are platforms for freelancers.

I'll try to simplify. Think of a market, Yes, that market you go to buy foodstuff. When you need yams you go to the market to buy, when you need tomatoes you go to the market to buy.

When you go to the market you see different yam seller, you don't just buy from anybody. You look around for the biggest and best yams to buy. When you get a good deal from the seller, you pay and take your yams home to enjoy.

Upwork is that marketplace, you are the seller, and in this case your yam is email copywriting. Buyers that need email copy will come and buy your work.
If you can convince them you will deliver the best work they will pay you for it.

The same way you go and buy yams from the same seller next time when you enjoyed the yams, it's the same way a client will keep coming to buy your services when you deliver the best.


Fiverr works on the same principle too. Use google for more in-depth explanations
